vo-space opens the folder from the dock as a stack. You can bring up the
options menu for a folder in the dock to check if stack is enabled. There are
three stack options. If fan is selected, you will need to interact with it to
read the contents.

Hi,
Actually, “impossible” is a strong, and wrong assumption. While cmd-option-l
when at the Desktop is also my preferred mode, you can open this folder from
the Dock. When focused on the Downloads folder on your Dock, press VO-shift-m
to bring up the Contextual menu for that Dock item, type

You can open drives or folders in List view, or any view, using CMD + O, or CMD
+ Down Arrow.

I agree. However, I just press Command-Shift-H to go to my Home folder, then
type the letters d o w quickly and it takes me to my Downloads folder.
Hello Anna,
You can find a lot of shortcuts like these in the Go menu in the Finder.
Wherever a menu item has a shortcut, you'll find it after the item description.
Knowing shortcuts saves so much time.

Hi Mark,
I've never tried command down arrow for opening anything. I just tried it on an
app in the dock and on the applications folder and nothing happened. i had
quick nav on, so I turned it off, thinking that would make a difference, maybe.
Still nothing. command down arrow does nothing
HI chris;
have you tried pressing enter on the folder in the dock, that you'd like to
open?…
YOu should not only be able to see the items in said folder, but you should
also be given the option to open the folder in Finder rather than just seeing
it on the dock.
Also, pressing VO

Hi Mary;
When in the dock, VO space or enter will open a folder or app. YOu can also
bring up a context menu with VO shift M which will have the 'open' option in it
as well.
I think I just missed the VO space option when responding to Chris and Mark!

Hi Cara,
Neither vo plus space or enter does anything for me when in the doc on the
applications or documents folders. vo shift m brings up the menu that has the
open option in it. enter and vo plus space work on the doanload and other
folders, but not applications or documents. Weird.

Hi Mary;
As Mike mentions, if you bring up a context menu on the folders you'd like to
open, and make sure the list option is checked, you should be in luck. Have you
tried this already?…

Why go to the Dock to open the Applications or Documents folders? It's much
quicker to do Command-Shift-a for Applications, and Command-Shift-o for
Documents.
Command-Shift-u for Utilities is also useful.

intuitive.
