I'm waiting for a new time capsule. I got the 2012 version as a gift and it
has never failed me. I stay connected to it for up to 1000 feet, and it is
upstairs in a back corner.

Hi,
I'll chime in quickly here with some actual data, albeit dated. I recall some
tests over 10 years ago where a number of these devices were tested against the
Airport Extreme, and the Extreme won in pretty well all categories. Being that
it was over 10 years ago,, things have changed
Hi Scott and all, thanks for the router suggestions! I didn't even
think about a web interface. I've heard really good things about the
Netgear Nighthawk series, maybe I'll give one a try!

You might have smaller Wireless players or local players, I wouldn’t bother
with DSL either, that’s last century’s technology.

Its been stable for some time, my email client used to complain
quite often. Then recently, it appeared my Charter email account was not
behaving reliably. Will have to see how this merger goes.
Interesting that my iCloud and gMail accounts worked fine.
I have no other options here
I was a charter cable member for all of one month because the service was
substandard. I had the 125 meg down 25 up and the network seemed congested to
me. Maybe with the merger things will improve.

Charter now Spectrum. Standard Internet, think the slowest which
still to me is overpriced.

Ok yes makes sense. But then if I run a test from my provider it
might look good while its actually on the low end of the speed dial so I
may be a skeptic here. I think I will leave myself in the dark, what I
do not know cannot hurt me.

You know things like that are hit and miss. You’re testing the whole network
between you and the speed test server rather than the speed of any specific
link so you might get some idea but it depends on network conditions and any
number of things.

Scott,
Is Speedtest.com a reliable way to measure performance? I am happy
with the Netgear router but am curious to know if this site would
provide meaningful data.

Most routers are very doable from the web interfaces.
The ones I’d suggest are the Netgear Nighthawk 7800 series or the DLink
DIR-897/lr or Asus has an 88U model that is highly rated although I have not
tried it’s web interface personally.
Thanks

I bought a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 earlier this year. Don't need
software. Its quite doable from the web interface.

he has been saying my Apple Airport Extreme is slow. So, I'm thinking
