Re: Rearranging notes into folders

2016-08-21 Thread Jonathan Cohn
NO, the shift is required. I often tend to drop words when writing, usually a
quick read will show up my dropped word, but in the middle of a keystroke like
control-option-shift-F3 it is easier to miss. I am glad you found the solution.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Possible solution to Dropbox mystery window

2016-08-21 Thread Larry Thacker Jr.
I might be speaking too soon, but it seems to have gone away after i restarted
the computer. Activate Dropbox from the menu extras. go to the Menu button
and activate that. Move to Preferences. Once there, you will be inside the
toolbar. Stop interacting with that and move to “Dropbox badge.” Change the
dropdown there to Never show.

Re: Rearranging notes into folders

2016-08-21 Thread Larry Thacker Jr.
I don’t know if I read it somewhere or just assumed it should be possible.
Overall Voiceover support in the Notes app seems half baked, but it still makes
a handy place to keep and organize stuff especially if I want it on the phone
too.

Thanks for the instructions, I was able to move items with cursor tracking
turned off, though on my system it turned out to be under VO-shift-f3. Don’t
know if having a Mini with a Windows keyboard attached accounts for the
difference. Pointing it out for the benefit of onlookers.

Re: Question regarding voice-over

2016-08-21 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Usually, mac users call that option and not alt. . Use control ootion m
twice to get to the menu extras area. Then, make sure that quick nap is
turned off and use option in the arrow keys to move over to the Wi-Fi
network. At this point use the option down the road and you should see all
of the debugging options for Wi-Fi networking. Best of luck, Jonathan Cohn

Working with Installed Apps on Mac Air with OS 10

Hi,

I'm trying to use some apps that I learned how to work with in Windows,
Audacity and VLC media player for Mac, to be specific, on my Mac Air with OS
10. Does anyone know of guides for getting things done in third-party apps
using the laptop  keyboard?

Thanks much for any input,

Re: Here is the Text of the User Manual for the Nearby Explorer, for iOS, GPS Navigation App

2016-08-21 Thread Bill Gallik
To all our friends living outside the United States and Canada,

I believe this was developed and is provided by the American Printing House for
the Blind (APH).

Perhaps I’m naive, but I have to believe that arrangements could be made so
that similar organizations in other countries could be allowed to “port” the
app to digital maps and languages of such countries. I suggest you may want to
contact such similar organizations in your countries to request that they
pursue this. It certainly would be nice if all blind persons had access to as
many of these sorts of apps as possible!

Re: Rearranging notes into folders

2016-08-21 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Wow, I didn't even realize there were folders for notes, and I discovered most
of my notes are still in eMail folders and not in iCloud format.

On to your question. You must first turn off cursor tracking before doing drag
/ drop like this. I played with creating a an activity for drag and drop that
had focus follows VoiceOver cursor turned off. To turn off cursor tracking use
vo-F3 . Another way that should work would be to first mark the folder with a
hotspot. then move to the item you want in the folder, mark it for drag and
drop and finally use the command drag to hotspot. I have not specifically tried
this process, but it should work.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

I am wondering if this app works in underground train stations such as
those in NYC and Boston for announcing train times etc as
demonstrated for bus stops. I know it uses onboard data when it cannot
connect to cellular data or YFi.

Re: how to type network path on macOS

2016-08-21 Thread Jonathan Cohn
The Macintosh has "and" an auto-mount daemon with config files. (at least Lion
did).

Essentially /Network/ is a special point managed by the AMD process that looks
for devices with the name you provide as the second argument.

If you go to the finder's go to network location, you can type in
smb://device/drive to mount a drive. There might be options for automatically
mount on login too.

besides the smb (or samba) protocol which has man pages, it is also possible or
at least in older Macintosh's was possible to use nfs: (apple file system), nfs
(based off of sun's network file system), ftp to get a read only view of a ftp
point and I think webdav:

If you want to use command line interfaces and not deal with the auto-mount
daemon, you can use the mount command to make permanent mount points.

I believe that auto-mount also has functionality to associate /users/UserName
with network addresses, but I never researched that, I just remember seeing
something about in in the "/etc" directory.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Rearranging notes into folders

2016-08-21 Thread Larry Thacker Jr.
I want to move some of my notes into folders by subject, but I can’t seem to
find a way to make this happen using Voiceover. Drag and drop doesn’t work
because once the destination is highlighted the notes that were selected are no
longer on the screen. Can I get to the folder without causing the note list to
shift away from the source? Move is not a menu option, contextual or
otherwise, and the command-c/x keystrokes just bonk.

Nearby Explorer for iOS User's Guide

 Copyright 2016

American Printing House for the Blind, Inc.

 2016/8/19

 Introduction

When sighted people use a global positioning system (GPS), their main
interests are getting directions and/or guidance to a destination. Blind
users appreciate these features as well, but generally desire more
orientation queues than are available on commercial GPS apps. Nearby
Explorer is a GPS app designed to provide these queues. When combined with
an accessible interface and customizable, current information about points
of interest (POIs), the tools provide a meaningful picture of the vicinity
 and its characteristics.

 Nearby Explorer works by:
 1.displaying a screen containing several geography-related categories,
letting you turn on the ones of interest (announced as you move). You can
put the phone to sleep and continue receiving feedback or examine the
 values on the screen.
2.letting you orient the phone in various positions to get more targeted
information about: ◦points of interest (POIs),
 ◦direction and streets, and
 ◦the closest point of interest.

3.providing descriptive details such as: ◦intersection configurations as
 you approach,
◦transit stop next time, direction of travel, and head sign for systems in
 over 30 metro areas,
◦distance and adjustable direction to POIs, and
◦adjustable scope for prominence and proximity for POI announcements.

 Features

The information that Nearby Explorer provides helps the blind traveler
stay oriented. It shows surrounding and approaching streets, businesses,
institutions, and public facilities, and offers continually updating
distance and directional information to the nearest or selected location.

Nearby Explorer provides a sense of the surrounding streets and their
relationship to the user's current position. Additionally, it enables the
passenger in a vehicle to aid the driver with directions and suggestions.
