Re: Proper Setup of Mail with VoiceOver

The sliders help you hide things as well. Keep in mind, though, hiding
everything is not necessarily a good thing. The mailbox list and Favorites bar
are very useful.

Apparently it's more than just hiding things. The vertical and
horizontal sliders have to be positioned just right, or the
Option-Up/Down Arrow keys don't work right. The horizontal position has
to be at 100%, so saith a friend of mine who's quite Mac-savvy.

Using mouse with VO

2021-01-12 Thread Traci Duncan
Wow, that was challenging! Partly because I don’t use the mouse pointer too
often.

I was doing a Duolingo lesson in Safari and was asked to click on a specific
word in a sentence. I couldn’t just VO-space on it. Nor could I locate the word
and move the mouse pointer over.

I had to interact with the text, focus inside the word, then move the mouse
pointer over. Vo-command-f5. Then I clicked on the word with vo-shift-space.

This was definitely new to me. Sort of a pain, but I imagine faster and easier
the more I use it. Just thought I’d pass it along in case someone else finds
themselves in such a situation.

HTH,
Traci

Re: Proper Setup of Mail with VoiceOver

2021-01-12 Thread Steve Matzura
I'm also interested in eliminating screen clutter for a partially
sighted user, but yes, the shortcut keys are definitely the way to go
for Mac Mail. For instance, while we don't care whether bookmarks are
shown or not in Safari, they do take up some screen real-estate for
sighted users. Eliminating that panel improved a partially-sighted
user's use of Safari greatly when I explained how to get rid of that
ever-growing list and give them back some screen space. Same with Mail.
If I knew what sidebars and such could be closed for a partially sighted
user to get more on their screen, I'd recommend it.

Re: Proper Setup of Mail with VoiceOver

2021-01-12 Thread John Panarese
Yes, this is correct. Also, one doesn’t need to concern themselves with the
various bars and such. It’s like any Windows mail client. You only need to
navigate the mailboxes and the message table, and this is done with simple
keyboard commands. Again, like any screen reader, if you know the shortcuts,
you can avoid getting lost or dealing with areas of the screen that are not
important.

Hello,

Re: Clipboard manager for Mac

2021-01-12 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi,
I had to do the following to get it to work:
open the Flycut app
it seems as if nothing happened but in truth an invisible window opened
press Enter to confirm and open System Preferences to enable AEServer to make
Flycut working

After this it appeared in the extras menu.

All the best
Jürgen

Proper Setup of Mail with VoiceOver

2021-01-12 Thread Steve Matzura
I'm not a major Mac user. In particular, I don't use Safari or Mail. I
prefer the user experience provided by other operating systems and
screenreaders. However, last night I had to work on someone's Mac that
was having email problems. I ironed out the problems, but along the way,
discovered that Mail was not set up optimally for use with VoiceOver.
Specifically, I couldn't use Option-Up/Down Arrow keys to get to the top
and bottom of the messages table, and there are a lot of sidebars and
other views that are open which to me seem needless and cluttery. I look
at this AppleVis article
 which was
helpful in certain ways but did not address any of the things mentioned
above despite it having been written in 2014 and updated just last week.
Can someone amplify or further explain some of these things? In
particular, moving through the messages table a page at a time or
getting to the top/bottom of said table would be quite helpful, as one
such table in one mailbox folder has over 2000 messages in it.

Thanks in advance.
