Re: Upgrading from Catalina

2022-04-18 Thread Dave Carlson
Phil,

In my experience, upgrading from Catalina to Monterey is pretty painless, and
it works as well as Catalina. However the text message app is quite different
and takes a bit of getting used to.

Need to Repair TextEdit on Monterey OS

2022-04-18 Thread Dave Carlson
My Text Edit constantly goes into “TextEdit not responding” when I open it
without a document, or when I close a document. I always have to use the force
quit to shut it down.

This started happening yesterday, and so far I’ve found no solution to fix it.

Is there a site where I can download a new installation file for TextEdit? The
version that comes with Monterey is 1.17.

Or perhaps there is a configuration file somewhere in the system that is
corrupted and needs to be deleted or rebuilt?

Re: Preserving configuration files under /etc across Mac OS upgrades

2022-04-18 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I thought that I noticed a one time when I was in Terminal a couple of weeks
ago, that Apple may have added this functionality themselves. I am running
12.4 on an M1 MBP, so that may be a factor. I also was in a hurry, so didn’t
read the message in detail, so I could be dreaming.

Later…

Upgrading from Catalina

2022-04-18 Thread Phil Halton
Lately I’m getting nag screens for updating to Monterey. I’m currently using
Catalina on a mid 2013 MacBook Air. Is there any compelling reason why I should
do so? I’m perfectly happy with Catalina, but I normally try to stay reasonably
current with the latest OS. However, I just don’t feel like updating. Will I
miss out on anything? Am I approaching the limits of my 2013 MacBook Air as far
as OS compatibility is concerned? It’s probably not too far off in the future
will have to get a new MacBook Air, And that will probably be my next OS
upgrade.

Re: Starting Safari Without All Those Tabs/Windows

2022-04-18 Thread Dave Carlson
This is the Monterey operating system, latest version. Don’t know if that makes
any difference. It’s very strange that I only have two choices for the start up
pop up and neither one is blank page or no tabs. Even if I turn off tabs
entirely it’s still insist on having only those two choices. Maybe the next OS
will make things better.

Mine doesn't and I don't know why that would happen, unless there's a setting

If possible I would go with the newer Mac models. If you just use it for basic
stuff then you are probably fine with the Air.

2022-04-18 Thread Raymond Foret Jr
Okay, Until I can get a new Mac somehow, does anybody out there know of a good
more text based browser that I can actually use with El Capitain? I know,
that’s old but it’s all I’ve got now because this old Mac (a mid 2009 moddel)
will not support anything more recent. So, I figured that if Safari is getting
less and less useful to me, and Crome is not much better now, is there any
alternative that I might try?

Hi!
I am using nordvpn and I am paying a yearly subscription for it.
Its really good for what I want it for.
I use it because I want to listen to bbc and the premiere league and champions
league since they’re the only radio stuff that brings it.

Re: A Question for Audible Subscribers

2022-04-18 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Mark,

I just tested this out, and I am experiencing the same thing, though not
consistently. I believe this to be a new behavior, so I don’t know if there’s a
solution. One thing I noticed with my brief test was that it seemed to happen
more often when I flipped through my titles then when I use my finger to scroll
down through the screen.

Not sure how helpful this is, but that’s what I found in a two minute test.
Cheers,
Donna

2022-04-18 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Thanks, Dave and Lucas for the suggestion. My husband has just reminded me that
I should be able to access our employers VPN, so I’m going to try that first,
since it would be free to me. However if that turns out to be too limiting I
will definitely check this this one out. Really appreciate the speedy response.
Thanks,

A Question for Audible Subscribers

2022-04-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

I know I saw a post about this but I cannot locate the solutions, if any
exists.

For some reason, even when in list view, VoiceOver seems to skip titles in
my Audible Library when I am browsing through them.

Is there a solution to this problem?

Interestingly, I did not begin experiencing this issue until I merged my
original Audible account with my Amazon account.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

Re: Good VPN option?

2022-04-18 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi,
I have no experiences using VPN. But would you recommend to pay for such a
service? Is there even free stuff out there? It might be more secure when
paying for a service what do you think?
All the best
Jürgen

Yes, agree with the support available. They helped me with initial download and
install.

Re: Good VPN option?

2022-04-18 Thread Dave Carlson
VPN Express seems to work well for me. If you have Verizon, they have something
called digital secure that works on an iPHone. But VPN Express (or is it
Express VPN?) works on all devices, and can even work directly on a Wi-Fi
router and Smart TV.

Good VPN option?

2022-04-18 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

The network at the hotel where I am staying has insecure internet, and, since
I’m going to be spending some time here over the next few years, I’m thinking I
need to set up a VPN. I know this topic has been discussed on this list, so
thought I would start here. Can anyone recommend a good, accessible, hopefully
not too expensive VPN option?
Thanks,
Donna
