Hi, In vlc, press cmd O to bbring up the open dialog and select the folder that has the files you want. Now that the foder is selected, select the opeen button and in a few seconds the files should start playing. I do this all the timme if I have stuff I want to play. HTH. Matthew

The files are stored right to a card which are available with a standard reader. I can’t speak for the GoPro specific software but once the files are in the Mac you can edit them in other tools as normal. There’s a nice big button to press to start and stop recording and you can voice trigger

File Vault is probably what is going on here. You can on at least some computers turn on voice prompts for the FileVault login with command F5. But certainly the fact that it powers off without really booting is what happens to me if I don't enter Username/Password after power on.

I have not actually owned a mac for a few months now, but this always worked for me. I stopped upgrading at Yosemity and possibly that makes a difference. I always used column mode browsing, and maybe it selects folders in a specific way that vlc needs. You can also try command shift O.
