Hi,

I’ve had the sports model since about June and have never had this problem.

I don’t think the latest update did it any favours! So I gave it up
and sold it. Now I wait for the next generation and I hope it will be
more functional than what it was as I’d like a little more
 independence from the phone!

Please note wrist to raise with voice over was off. So think about this.
You do your normal duties be it round the house, at work or out and about.
Then suddenly this watch would start talking as if you had pressed it.
Not just that, it would go in and out of apps as if you were touching it.
I had to tap it ten or 20 times to lock it before it stopped. Some times
when it was raining and my sleeve got wet and it would start talking,
talking and talking! So I’d have to power it off. You don’t know how
much it got on my nerves, I wanted to throw it somewhere for it to stop!
I thought the new update would sort it as I had reset it loads. New
 update didn’t stop it.

You would have said call Apple but Apple would have said for me to reset
and then I’d have to take a day off work just to sit at home to wait for a
courier and I couldn’t do it at this time as my annual leave has almost
expired! So yesterday morning after another period of this watch doing
its moving in to apps back and forth in and out, I got to the point, I
would not tolerate this watch anymore. So you see what a time I had with
it. Also, after the new update, when my work out ended, it would continue
to count and count down and I had to power it off. Then another day it
would crash for a whole day and when it finally come back on, there would
be no power left it died until it was charged! So there is my story. So
now I wait for the next one and this time I’ll not get the sports as I am
wondering because it was sports it did this thing that got on my nerves!
How I miss my time piece though.

Hi Kawal

Like you I voted to remain, in part because of my concern for the economy.
While the campaign was going on a friend of mine said that if we leave we’d be
throwing the baby out with the bath water to which I wholeheartedly agree. I
hope the leave vote was worth it and that we do better than if we had stayed or
at least as well. Who knows?

Re: Apple Watch with voiceover, use cases and explanatory material

2017-09-15 Thread Angie Nutt
Hi,

I have the original watch, sport model. Hope to get the 3rd gen for Christmas.

I’ve been very happy with my watch; I wanted it mainly for the time and
notifications. My podcast app gives me notifications so I can keep track of
them. As I don’t carry my phone around the house it’s great for texts, Facebook
messages etc. I occasionally dictate a reply to a friend and have found this to
be very accurate.

Have recently used the heart monitor when my heart started beating very fast. I
like the fact it can vibrate to tell the time as I find this very useful in a
noisy location.

I really wouldn’t want to be without my watch.

All the best

Re: To Me, Braille is Beautiful in iOS 11.x

I so agree with you; I love reading Kindle books in braille for instance. When
I first got a braille display about 2 years ago I was over the moon. I still
use speech though when my hands are doing other things; just love the choice.

Re: Why Apple's "Batterygate" apology didn't go far enough

2018-01-02 Thread Angie Nutt
Hi

My husband and I have the 6s; he says he has noticed the slowdown, I haven’t.
Mine is constantly used and the battery rarely goes flat; his is much less used
and is often allowed to run down; I think mine is better looked after in that
regard.

I would certainly prefer some slowing than sudden shutdowns and I certainly
wouldn’t want overheating.

I wonder if there’ll be a smaller phone coming out early next year.

Re: A TTS Engine instead of a Human Voice for Reading a Novel? Maybe

2019-04-16 Thread Angie Nutt
I have used various voices on my iPhone to read Kindle books ever since this
was possible. Since getting a braille display I use that mostly but there are
times when I still use speech. Samantha is a particularly good voice for
reading I think.

I tend to choose a voice I feel will best fit the book I’m reading. For
instance: I was reading Mary Poppins earlier so decided on Serena. Now I’m
reading an American book so am using Samantha. I love the choices I have!

Re: A Strange Speaker Sound Scenario with Mark's Apple Watch, Series 4, with LTE

2019-09-04 Thread Angie Nutt
I’ve had the problem with the first watch which came out and now again with the
3rd gen. It’s been like it for a while, never clears up. When I get round to it
I’ll try repairing again and see if it works.

Re: A Strange Speaker Sound Scenario with Mark's Apple Watch, Series 4, with LTE

2019-09-13 Thread Angie Nutt
Hi Mark and all who are interested:

I have finally re-paired my watch and think maybe there’s a slight improvement
in the speaker but don’t think it’s as good as it should be but I have nothing
to compare it with. I’m sure it used to be louder than it has been for some
time. Will also need to test the mic when on a call because last time I used
the watch to answer a call from my husband he couldn’t really hear me, said I
was muffled, whereas in the past he could hear me fine.

All the best

Re: Ring Video Doorbell

2019-12-30 Thread Angie Nutt
Hi

It may have improved but I’ve heard from other blind people that it’s not easy
to find the button to speak to whoever is at the door and was slow to respond.
The person in question found Google Nest Hello somewhat easier.

I am of course talking about the apps.

All the best

I enjoyed the event, especially hearing about the new watches though don’t plan
on getting one this year as I have last year’s. If I were to get one I’d like
product red. In the past I’ve been tempted to upgrade merely for the colour.

Re: The Psychology of technology

2020-12-10 Thread Angie Nutt
Hi

I’ve had a couple of iPads in the past and particularly liked the mini but then
I got a MacBook Air as wanted to try one out of curiosity. I find no need for
both so no longer use iPad. I prefer typing with my Mac but that’s possibly
because the iPad cases with keyboards which I had left a bit to be desired. The
upshot: I think I’d like to always have either iPad or MacBook, have no use for
both at this time. If you fancy a new iPad in particular then go for it.

Re: Anyone have any experience with the Airpods Max?

2022-05-03 Thread Angie Nutt
Actually, I should have said that I’ve had to forget and pair them again. Have
reset them once but can’t remember how as it was
last year. The problem I have from time to time is that they simply won’t
connect to my phone, even when I try to do it manually. When going back to them
later they usually work. Have had this with the AirPods 2nd gen too.

Yes, for me it started yesterday afternoon,; not surprised as I’d already heard

Re: When It Comes to iPhone, Are You All Thumbs?

2023-01-18 Thread Angie Nutt
For shortish stuff I hold my phone in my left hand and use one finger; I’m far
from fast but I use the word predictions which works quite well for me. For
longer stuff I use a qwerty bluetooth keyboard.

Re: Activator, and iPhone transition to USBC

2023-12-11 Thread 'Angie Nutt' via MacVisionaries
I’m glad to hear they’re working on it. If you can, wait until they’ve done it
before shelling out any money or at least wait until they announce the price;
the new docking station may not cost too much and may be something you can
purchase later.

Re: Activator, and iPhone transition to USBC

2023-12-11 Thread 'Angie Nutt' via MacVisionaries
If I were going to buy one I’d wait at least until the price of the new docking
station was announced. I’ve just had a thought though: if one does buy the new
docking station and keeps an older iPhone as well, presumably one could chop
and change between the two docks, making it a more flexible device.

I agree re the bugs which might occur etc and the fact that things aren’t
always released on time.

Re: My review after spending two weeks with the Activator braille display

2024-01-10 Thread 'Angie Nutt' via MacVisionaries
Does indeed sound like a very interesting device but a bit scary re the Win 11
thing. Other than a couple of macs, we only have Win 11 so if we bought the
Activator things could get interesting. . If money were no object it
would be interesting as an experiment though since we do have a braille display
connected to a PC, as well as other things, with no issues.

It does sound a bit unwieldy for a lap whereas my latest acquisition is perfect
for that. . The lap is how I mainly work, and when I used a MacBook Pro,
15 inch I think, I found that a bit scary, feeling as though it could fall at
any moment.

It’ll be interesting to know what their alternate method of updating will be.
It’s a shame they didn’t go the same route as the Mantis; this way, it doesn’t
matter whether you have a PC or Mac or whatever.

Re: Anyone have any experience with the activator braille display

2023-12-08 Thread 'Angie Nutt' via MacVisionaries
I may be a bit over cautious but the Activator connects to the iPhone by
lightning and newer iPhones will be USB c, so my question would be, if I were
to buy one: will we be able to connect it using USB C? It may be possible to
get an adaptor, but for that much money I’d really want to be sure. I too
recommend hearing the podcast mentioned.

All the best

I was interested as I’d liked their stuff in the past and my dream has always
been to have a braille display with QWERTY. It would take me longer to raise
that kind of money than for the Mantis, so the Mantis, after my thoughts on the
USBc thing, is the one I’ll try and save for.

Re: Anyone else using Apple Pay or an Apple Card?

2024-03-07 Thread 'Angie Nutt' via MacVisionaries
I’ve used Apple Pay a couple of times on my iPhone and it’s worked well. I’ve
only used it in one location though so far.
