AirPods 2nd Gen question

2024-02-02 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Dear List,
I am late jumping on the AirPods band wagon.
I have a question, How can I tell if the case is charged?
This is the case with the Lightning port.
My iPhone 14 battery widget says the AirPods are at 95% charged.
What about left ear charge or right ear charge?
Last Night I had trouble connecting the AirPods to my iPhone 14 for the first
time.
Holding the case next to the phone and opening the lid brought up the connect
screen, but every time I hit connect I get error connection failed. And in
bluetooth settings, tapping on AirPods got error, pairing failed.
After choosing to forget device, I held the button on the case for 5 seconds
and finally got it to pair.
My second question is what holder do you suggest for making sure the AirPods
does not fall out of the ears?
It is a loop that fits around the ear and holds the AirPods.
Thanks,
Rob

Re: Hermes again

2023-12-24 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Are there any system alerts open?
Press control plus option plus F1 twice to check.
When trying to open the app, press control option shift M,
Then choose open.
Or check to see if it’s being blocked in system preferences and Privacy.

2023-12-24 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Hi,
1 be sure the app is installed, so we can use app cleaner to uninstall it.
2 open app cleaner
3 press command plus O
4 Select the app to uninstall and hit enter
5 it should show a table with related files, for me it found 4 files.
6 Now press the remove button.
That’s it.
Good luck.

Re: Hermes for Pandora

2023-12-23 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Hi,
Try app cleaner.
https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/
It should delete any leftover files that does not get deleted just by putting
the app in the trash.
Then you can reinstall the app starting fresh.

Dear List,
I get this in a lot of emails on My Mac running Monterey 12.7.2.
It does not happen on IOS.
It is saying combining “graphene joiner”

It seems to be in the subject line, because I can not find it in the body of
the email.
It seems to repeat over and over until I stop it.
I got VoiceOver to copy last phrase to clipboard so I could paste it here.

What is this? And how do I get rid of it? ͏ ͏

2023-12-21 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Dear List,
I get this in a lot of emails on My Mac running Monterey 12.7.2.
It does not happen on IOS.
It is saying combining “graphene joiner”

It seems to be in the subject line, because I can not find it in the body of
the email.
It seems to repeat over and over until I stop it.
I got VoiceOver to copy last phrase to clipboard so I could paste it here.

Looking for PDF Pen 12 installer

2023-10-28 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Hi List,
I am in the need of PDF Pen version 12 installer.
I reinstalled Monterey and the only version of the installer I have is version
8.
That’s because when I had Big Sur, I upgraded from version 8 to version 12
without downloading the installer.
And now I’m stuck because version 8 will not run on Monterey.
Thanks,
Rob
P.S.
I contacted Smile Software, and was told to contact Nitro the new owners of PDF
Pen.
So now I am awaiting their reply.
I hope that they want make me purchase version 13.

The link you sent was for an earlier version of the mail app, but it said to
take all accounts offline, then wait and bring them back online, That fixed it.

Re: IOS16

2023-10-10 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Hi,
Yes, There is a much easier way to drag.
Swipe up on the app to get to edit.
Double tap it.
Now swipe up to the drag option and double tap it.
Now move to the page where you want to drop the app, and swipe up to drop here.
I hope this points you in the right direction.

Hi,
I noticed a few errors.
First, the following two lines should be at the end of the document.

This represents the end of the code.

Second, your link should look like this.

I used Google as an example. The means line break.

Good luck!

Is this your first time of connecting gMail to a mail client?
If so,
You may need to enable iMap or mail forwarding in the gMail settings on the

Re: Reminder, how to move music library to new Mac?

2023-09-01 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Hi,
Copy the old Music folder containing all of your CD’s including Music
Library.musiclibrary files to the new Mac replacing the new Music folder, or
you can rename the new folder Music New.
Then once everything is working, you can delete the Music New folder.
Its been a few years since I had to do this.
If your music and playlists is not showing in the Music app, You may need to
point it to the old database you copied to the new Mac.
For me the path is
User/Music/Music/Music Library.musiclibrary
I had some instructions saved if I can find them.

Re: simple mac or voiceover question?

2023-07-29 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Hi,
Is the CD Drive on the Desktop?
If so, try selecting it and press command plus E.
If not, press command plus shift plus C, then select the CD Drive and press
command plus E.

Is there not a eject button on the CD Drive?

Mac Mail moving messages to Junk Mail

2023-07-23 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Dear List,
For the last two weeks, My Mac Mail iCloud account has been moving emails to
the junk folder.
I disabled the junk mail, but it continued to move emails to the junk folder.
So I reenabled the junk mail feature, & chose to mark mail as junk, but leave
in the inbox.
Guess what? It continued to move them to the junk folder.
So be ware, this may be happending to you without knowing it.
So go check the junk folder.
I heard on a podcast that others were having trouble with the Mac junk mail.
They said if you move email from the junk folder to the inbox folder, that it
would train the junk filter, but this is not working. I am moving about 60
emails per day from the junk folder.
I also reset the junk filter with no luck.

Thanks for any help,
Rob

Hi Robert,

Thanks for sharing. To add to this, if you are copying mutliple tones at once,
drop them on the Scroll area instead of the name section I mentioned earlier.

Hi,

Now, actually adding the custom ring-tone to the iPhone is possible with VO,
albeit a little challenging as it requires drag and drop.

1. Connect your iPone to your Mac with the USB charging cable.
2. Open the window where the custom ring-tone resides.
3. Press cmd-n to open a second Finder window where you select your iPhone
from the Sidebar.
4. Navigate to the window where the custom ring-tone resides. You can use the
Window Chooser or cmd-accent to get there.
5. Interact with the table or browser and navigate to the tone. Do not use
arrow navigation, but do use VO-navigation.
6. Once you are at the tone, press VO-cmd-f5 to route the mouse to the VO
location. You may need to include the fn key as well.
7. Press VO-cmd-shift-space to invoke the mouse-down action.
8. Use the Window Chooser to navigate to the iPhone window.
9. Navigate to the item that announces the name of your iPhone, how much space
is used and its charge level. On mine, it's the item that's one VO-right after
the edit field with my iPhone name in it.
10. Press VO-cmd-shift-f5 to route the mouse to the VO location. Again, you
may need to add the fn key to this combination.
11. Press VO-cmd-shift-space to toggle the mouse-up action.

This drops the tone and will immediately copy it to your iPhone. It will show
up in the tones section of Sounds & Haptics for your use.

Next press the down arrow key to find speech,

Re: Strange Mac Clean-up question, moving documents folder from iCloud to my Mac

2023-02-13 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
I’m using Monterey.
Go to Internet accounts in system preferences.
Interact with the table and choose iCloud
Interact with that and VO right to options, and press VO Space.
I never used Ventura, so maybe you can find it.

Help using Time Machine

2023-01-29 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Dear Group,
I am using Mac OS Monterey.
Today I opened my CheckBook Pro app and to my surprise, It was showing my last
transactions was December 29th 2022.
I guess there was a iCloud sync problem between my Big Sur & my Monterey.
So I have a Time Machine backup from January 22, 2023.
When I enter Time Machine, it places me on the Desktop. I cant figure out how
to navigate to iCloud to find and restore my file.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Rob

Re: Looking for a File that I am editing?

2022-12-16 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Hi,
You should never depend on the auto save feature.
Always save the document yourself, giving it a name .
Now, if Text Edit is still open,
You can press command plus grov, it is the key under the escape key.
It may be announced as acsent.
This will move between open documents.
Another way to find the lost document is to look in your Documents folder for a
file called Untitled.
Also on the Text Edit file menu, is a open recent submenu.
Good luck!

2 Did you download a Windows 10 ISO?
If yes to both questions, Choose new from the file menu to create a new VM.

Re: What is Launchpad?

2022-11-04 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Here is how I use it,
If I want to open mail,
I press option plus L for Launch Pad.
Then type m a.
VoiceOver will announce Mail. Pressing enter will open it.

Re: Mute Speech With Keyboard?

2022-11-03 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
OK, here are the instructions to add a commander to mute speech.
To setup a commander to toggle the mute speech for VoiceOver, first open
voiceover utility with vo f 8 that is control option f 8. Next press command
8 to jump to commanders.
Next vo right arrow to the keyboard tab and then press vo space bar on it.
Next tab to the add button, and hit VO Space.
Next type the letter you want to use along with the right option key.
Note, I had to press VO space before I could type in the edit field.
Next vo right arrow to the command menu button and then press space bar on it.
Next press the down arrow key to find speech,
and then press the right arrow to open it.
Next press down arrow to find Mute speech toggle and press enter.
Good Luck!

Re: Mute Speech With Keyboard?

2022-11-03 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Do you know pressing the control key pauses speech?
But if you want to have a hot key to mute speech, it can be done.
I have been doing it for years.
I am surprised that no-body has mentioned adding a commander.
I use option plus the tiller or AKA the grove key located under the escape key.
I will look for my notes on how to do it.
Thanks,
Rob

You can try using a virtual machine to run Windows.
The hardest part is registering for a free account, then log in to find your
serial number.
You can get a free for home use account at

Both keystrokes work.
I guess it may be easier to use command+shift+h on a LapTop.
But on my Mac, I have always used command+Home.

Re: Learning braille

2022-08-28 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Thank you for the braille blaster link.
I can now use the letters f d s and j k l
To type in braille, but I can not find a way to check my progress by having the
text read back to me as letters instead of dots 1 2 3 5.

How did you signup?
Through Apple, or Google?
By the way, Apple charges about $15 where as going directly through Google is
$11.99 per month.

I usually create a text file and include the following text, then rename the
.txt to .url.
See example,

[InternetShortcut]
URL=http://www.google .com

Now save this and give it a name such as Google Shortcut.url

Hi,
As someone suggested, I used terminal to format the drive. Then Disk Utility
saw it without crashing.
I used recovery mode to reinstall Monterey, While in recovery mode, I also
renamed the drive and the data drive was automatically renamed as well.
So everything is good.
Thanks,
Rob

External SSD crashes Finder & Disk Utilities

2022-07-08 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Dear List,
You know that saying, If its not broken, Don’t fix it.
Well, I didn’t listen. I was running Big Sur on a external SSD, while Monterey
was installed on the internal spindle drive.
So today I decided to upgrade the SSD from Big Sur to Monterey.
The upgrade seemed to go OK, So since the SSD drive was named Big Sur, I
renamed it to Monterey SSD, and I also renamed the data drive to Monterey
SSD-Data.
Guess what! Yes, the Mac will not boot the SSD. I have to remove it in order to
boot into recovery, but soon as I plug it in, Recovery disk utility stops
responding.
So again I unplugged it and restarted the Mac booting with the internal
spindle drive running Monterey, But finder stops responding when I plug in the
SSD.
So if I can’t rename or format the SSD, What do I do?
Please give me some advice!
Thanks,
Rob
