WireGuard to my own server. It's working reliably on Mac OS, but on iOS
the entire Internet connection fails when I activate the VPN. The VPN is
configured only to route traffic that goes to the server's address;
everything else is supposed to be unaffected.

Searching the Web indicates that other people have been having problems
as well. It used to work, so I suspect it's an issue that started with
an iOS update - possibly iOS 16.

It also runs reliably under Linux and even Windows. Only iOS is
problematic currently.

And I have been in bits, so I know that to be a fact also, everyone is in
titled to there opinion, and that’s mine, don’t care if you like it, but there
is no better teacher than experience.

Absolutely not true about me. Don't spread information that you're not for sure

Its only 99 bucks a year, and you get 4 months free. I have already apologized
to the list mods, but my 1st reason for posting this was because I have been
using it on all my apple devices for over 3 years, and wanted to let people
know it is 100 percent accessible. Most group mods are not power hungry, or
like to baby sit like the ACB bits list, or groups that Joseph run. He kicks
people off for posting free resources that are apple products, because either
he didn’t post it, or its not his service. Lame, and bits and his groups

Hi.
I looked at this link as I am in the market for a good VPN. They are going to
charge you $207 a year. Yes you get 4 months free, however I think there are
cheaper options.

Re: Accessible VPN for all devices, plus 30 days free

2022-02-27 Thread Brad Snyder
This announcement is completely self-serving in addition to being an
inappropriate promotion.
The whole point of this announcement is so that Kliph can get free VPN service.
Anyone who doesn't see right through this, is not only vision impaired, but
clueless as well. Can't imagine this is allowed by the group owners/moderator.

I think this is highly inappropriate. where does this kind of thing stop? I
don’t want promotional emails on this list.

Re: accessible vpn

2021-02-08 Thread Lorie McCloud
after I go to menu extras and select encrypt.me <http://encrypt.me/> with
vo-space, I don't get a menu. I can't navigate anywhere. I hear that sound you
hear when a popover comes up. it's apparently not completely installed although
it comes up in menu extras. I don't think it's actually running. how would I
test that to make sure?

Re: accessible vpn

2021-02-08 Thread Brad Snyder
What do you mean by it is open when you try to delete it?
The interface closes when you CMD + Tab, away from it. It will return when you
go back to MenuExtras, and select it again.
If you want to exit Encrypt.me <http://encrypt.me/> while it is running, do the
following:
1. Go to MenuExtras, and select Encrypt.me <http://encrypt.me/> to open the
interface
2. Navigate to Settings, and arrow down to Quit Encrypt.me
<http://encrypt.me/>.

Yes, now I know what you are referring to.
When you go to the MenuExtras area, and select the Encrypt.me
<http://encrypt.me/> item, it opens an interface.
To close the interface, just do CMD + Tab, and select Finder or any running
application, and this will close the Encrypt.me <http://encrypt.me/> interface.

I use Nord Vpn and that is also very accessible.
A bit more expensive though I think.
I can’t remember now because I just starting using it.

Re: accessible vpn

2021-02-07 Thread Brad Snyder
I really have no idea what the pop-over you are experiencing could be.
Try pressing VO + F1 twice, to open the Application Chooser, and look for a
system dialogue in the list of open applications.
This may be the pop-over.

At least for a VPN that uses IPSec, it's already built into Mac OS. Apple's
documentation is at

https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/set-up-a-vpn-connection-on-mac-mchlp2963/mac

You'll need to obtain server details from your employer, your home router, or
whoever is providing you with the VPN service.

Other kinds of VPN will generally require their own software, with
accessibility that probably varies depending on the software involved.

Re: accessible vpn

2021-02-07 Thread Brad Snyder
when you open the DMG, you are presented with 2 items, one is an alias and the
other is the Encrypt.me <http://encrypt.me/> application.
You want to copy the application to your Applications folder.
Once the application has been copied to your applications folder, you can put
the alias on your desktop if you want.
I never do this, because, when the Encrypt.me <http://encrypt.me/> app is
running, I can access it from the Menu Extras area, by pressing VO + M twice.

At least for a VPN that uses IPSec, it's already built into Mac OS.
Apple's documentation is at

https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/set-up-a-vpn-connection-on-mac-mchlp2963/mac

You'll need to obtain server details from your employer, your home
router, or whoever is providing you with the VPN service.

Other kinds of VPN will generally require their own software, with
accessibility that probably varies depending on the software involved.

Simon,

If your connection to the Internet is fine with the Mini Server, then the best
thing to do would be to enable the DNS service on the Mini Server. You can set
up a forwarder to your other boxes within the DNS settings on the Mini as well.
This simply allows the DNS service on the Mini server to automatically point
to other DNS servers if there isn't a reference in its database. With the DNS
begin active on the Mini, and the VPN using the MIni's DNS first, most DNS
lookups are handled quick and easy. You'll still need to make sure the
appropriate ports are open for the VPN service to do it's thing, but this may
help.

How to setup your own VPN with macOS Server
Monday, May 29, 2017 at 8:00 am EDT

Want a VPN but don't want to trust a third-party service? Roll your own with
macOS Server!
If you've decided you need a virtual private network
(VPN) but you don't want to pay for a
third-party VPN service,
then macOS Server can be a great alternative. It's built on the macOS you
already know and love and lets you quickly and easily get your very own VPN up
and running.
Set up macOS Server
If you haven't already done so, download and install macOS
Server and
optionally enable remote
administration
 for easier setup.
Find your router's internet facing IP Address
Before we begin with the actual setup of the VPN service, you'll need to know
your internet "co-ordinates" — your router's IP address.
It's quite easy to determine your current IP address simply by Googling: "What
is my IP Address". Most home users have what's called a dynamic IP
address<http://whatismyipaddress.com/dynamic-static>, though. That means that
your router's IP address may change every so often.
<https://go.nordvpn.net/aff_c?offer_id=15_id=940_id=164>
If you use a dynamic IP address to setup your VPN service, there is no
guarantee that you'll have that IP address will still be yours in the future,
and the remote connection will fail.
To work around this, there are a number of dynamic domain name
services<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_DNS> you can purchase. That way,
you'll get an alias known as a "host name" that won't change, even if your IP
address does.
Many ISP's also offer what's known as static IP address. These are typically
used for business accounts but, depending on your ISP, can be available for an
addition fee.
Once you have your static IP address or have a host name for your dynamic IP
address, you can go on and configure your VPN service in macOS Server.
Configure the macOS Server VPN service

  1. Launch the Server app from your applications.
  2. Log into your macOS Server.
  3. Select VPN under the Services listings.
<https://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/xlarge/public/field/image/2017/05/macos-server-vpn-1.jpeg?itok=V6TMFLXC>

  1. Under VPN Host Name, enter either your static IP address or dynamic host
name depending the method you used when finding out your IP address above.
  2. Click Edit Permissions and select the users you want to be able to
connect to your VPN.
<https://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/xlarge/public/field/image/2017/05/macos-server-vpn-2.jpeg?itok=Ke-kKfZL>

  1. Create a new Shared Secret. The more complicated and random the better.
  2. Optionally click Client Addresses if you want to change the number of VPN
clients that can simultaneously connect to your VPN server.
  3. Optionally click DNS Settings if you want to change the default DNS
server your VPN clients will use when connected to your VPN server.

2017-10-26 Thread Tim Kilburn

If you've decided you need a virtual private network (VPN)
but you don't want to pay for a third-party
VPN service , then macOS
Server can be a great alternative. It's built on the macOS you already know and
love and lets you quickly and easily get your very own VPN up and running.
Set up macOS Server

If you haven't already done so, download and install macOS Server
 and optionally
enable remote administration

for easier setup.
Find your router's internet facing IP Address

Before we begin with the actual setup of the VPN service, you'll need to know
your internet "co-ordinates" — your router's IP address.
It's quite easy to determine your current IP address simply by Googling: "What
is my IP Address". Most home users have what's called a dynamic IP address
<http://whatismyipaddress.com/dynamic-static>, though. That means that your
router's IP address may change every so often.
 <https://go.nordvpn.net/aff_c?offer_id=15_id=940_id=164>

If you use a dynamic IP address to setup your VPN service, there is no
guarantee that you'll have that IP address will still be yours in the future,
and the remote connection will fail.
To work around this, there are a number of dynamic domain name services
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_DNS> you can purchase. That way, you'll
get an alias known as a "host name" that won't change, even if your IP address
does.

Launch the Server app from your applications.
Log into your macOS Server.
Select VPN under the Services listings.

<https://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/xlarge/public/field/image/2017/05/macos-server-vpn-1.jpeg?itok=V6TMFLXC>
Under VPN Host Name, enter either your static IP address or dynamic host name
depending the method you used when finding out your IP address above.
Click Edit Permissions and select the users you want to be able to connect to
your VPN.

<https://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/xlarge/public/field/image/2017/05/macos-server-vpn-2.jpeg?itok=Ke-kKfZL>
Create a new Shared Secret. The more complicated and random the better.
Optionally click Client Addresses if you want to change the number of VPN
clients that can simultaneously connect to your VPN server.
Optionally click DNS Settings if you want to change the default DNS server your
VPN clients will use when connected to your VPN server.
Optionally click Routes if you need special networking routes you need to
configure.
Optionally click Save Profile if you wish to create a configuration file so
that clients can simply load your server's connection information for easier
client setup.
Select your macOS Server computer name.
Select the Access tab.

<https://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/xlarge/public/field/image/2017/05/macos-server-vpn-3.jpeg?itok=j2Hbe1nc>
Click the Add button (looks like +) and select VPN.
Select Allow Connections From only some users.
Enter the users you wish to have VPN access.
Click OK.

Hi Tim,

I can’t get it to see my dns,
Mind you I’ve just updated the firmware on my fritzbox and it’s new system is
rather crap for usability let alone port forwarding,

So it’s possible my mini server isn’t seeing passed the router.

I’m going to have to have another look at it as I’ve not touched it in a month
or so.

Hi Jeff,
I use a service call encrypt.me .
Its easily usable with iOS, MacOS and Windows.
You can switch between countries with a press of a button, and the price is
fair for the unlimited data plan.
If you need any help with it let me know.

accessible vpn

2017-10-20 Thread jeff `greene
Hi List,
I think this has been asked before, but here goes! Does anybody know
of a good VPN that is accessible on the mac and windows?
I recently signed up with Nord VPN because it was an editor's choice
on pc magazine. While the service was great, the price fair, and
support pretty good, the software was crap! I finally got it set on
the mac to connect on boot-up, and sometimes it actually did! I
couldn't tell what server I was connected to though. On windows it was
worse. I could connect using the wizzard but no other way, and the
settings were totally unaccessible.
I've just got my money back from Nord and am looking for something better!
Thanks Jeff

Re: accessible VPN

2017-06-26 Thread Scott Granados
A great way to go is to set up a server for like $5 per month and install open
VPN. There are totally accessible clients for Mac, Windows, IOS and Android
and you can have as many clients as you want when you run your own server with
out a per seat price. Open VPN software is also totally open source.

RE: accessible VPN

2017-06-24 Thread David & his pack of dogs
I use Private internet access. It tells you where to put in the user name and
password. Once it is put in, you don’t have to enter it again. Also, it gives
you a list of several countries where you can appear to be in. Such as, if you
live in the U S, you can appear as if you are in the U K. Both U K and the U S
have different areas. In the U S you could be in New York but, look like you
are in California. There are a lot more countries you could appear to be in, I
just gave some exapmles. The main thing is, it is accessible for the blind and
it works. When last I checked it costs $59 for 2 years.
