Yeah, try this. Press vo+command+F8. More easily put, ctrl+option+command+F8. If this doesn't work for any reason, try hitting fn+Ctrl+Option+F8. I can explain later the difference, but let's get you started with something easy that won't overwhelm you with too much to take in at one time.
