Actually, one of the options in contextual menu that I often see his scan from Jon’s iPhone. Actually, it would be interesting to know whether you could use an iPhone or iPad as the camera. Personally I just use OCR for images or PDFs I need to turn to text. I never need to actually scan. If I did, I think I’d get a picture with my phone and transfer it to my computer. I use PDF Pen. There is also DocuScan Plus. I have not used it, but I heard it was good. It was created for accessibility. The option frequently mentioned is ABBYY FineReader for Mac. I haven’t used it, and there may be alternatives now.I have used the Windows version (a former colleague arranged for my then workplace to acquire it, which is how I was introduced to it). The document format recognition is very good, as is the OCR accuracy. I used it mostly to process PDF files containing images of printed pages.
