And of course once you open the context menu one of the first few options is “Sort ascending”, and the next is “Sort Descending”. Those are for sorting rather than filtering. You do not need the submenu for the sorting options, only the filtering options. Sorry if that explanation was not

Yes, VO does not always speak the initial list of row/column headers when you first enter the headers. But, arrowing up or down will speak either row or column header. anyway, once you have your desired column selected and have brought up the context menu, you have those sort and filter options
