A few suggestions:
Are you printing from a layout window? That can give you more
controlbut not much more.
Another thing I do is, when labeling, don't use the label feature in the
layer control. As you may have noticed, that keeps the font size
What projection are you using for the table you are placing the labels on
and what projection is you map window in. I would suggest they be the same.
