RE: MI Bug in Table Update Column?
I think this bug was also in v5.5 as I have come across it before - but didn't have time to look closer - in my case it was data in a 'linked' excel spreadsheet. Martin -Original Message- From: Karl Kliparchuk [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, 30 June 2000 12:22 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: MI Bug in Table Update Column? I was showing some clients this function of MapInfo Pro v6.0. I have a table with 4 polygons in it representing catchments. I also have a temporary table that I had created from an SQL Select. I used some of the data aggregation functions to produce some statistics on population per catchment area. I wanted to use the Table Update Column to transfer data from the SQL select table into the polygon table. I had an ID column in both tables, with numbers 1-4. When I tried to transfer the AVG pop value from the SQL table to the polygon table, the pop values were not put into the correct record. For example, polygon 1 should have an average of 44.8. Instead of getting that, I had a value of say 222.4. The data values are all there, but they are not in the proper order. polygon 1 has the pop data for polygon 3. I have never seen this happen before. I can send anyone that is interested the two files and the SQL query used for the data aggregation. I look forward to hearing from you. Re: MI: rotated ellipses and moving nodes of polygons
Hi Zoran To 1: As far as I know this is not possible with standard MapInfo function. However there are products that can do that using a rotate object function, such as MapCAD (Non-Earth Projection only, see http://www.tydac.ch/en/workgroup.htm) or MICAD (to be found on http://www.directionsmag.com/tools/Default.asp). Both products are however commercial. To 2: If I understand the question correctly you want to move a node of a polygon and the node of the adjacent polygon "comes along". This is standard MapInfo; under Options / Preferences / Map Window just turn the option "Move Duplicate Nodes" on. MI MapInfo Fonts and text placement
Hi All This might be of interest to some of you, I use this strategy to control the seize an placement off text in a mapinfo table 1: first i open a mapper with my text table, set the coordsys and get the windowid 2: i then use this function to recalculate the zoom of my mapper. The trick is by creating a dummy text and getting the seize of this text i can calculate a zoom that gives me the correct seize of my text '' Set mapper window WinId CalculateZoom(myTextHeight, WinId) function CalculateZoom(byval h as Float, byval winId as integer) as Float dim o as object, s as string, x, y as integer, ymin, ymax, dy, z, NewZoom as float Set Distance units "m" Set style font("Univers", 1, 72, 0 ) 'Set style font lFont s = "Test string" x = MapperInfo(winId, mapper_Info_centerx) Y = MapperInfo(winId, mapper_Info_centery) o = CreateText(winId, x, y, s, 0, 0, 0 ) ymin = ObjectGeography(o, obj_Geo_miny) ymax = ObjectGeography(o, obj_Geo_maxy) z= mapperInfo(winId, mapper_info_zoom) dy = yMax - yMin NewZoom = z / (dy / h) * 1.667 CalculateZoom = NewZoom End Function 3: i can now use the CreateText() function to place any text in any angel at the correct seize in my table, i can even justify it to the center left or right. 4: if i have to use another text height i just recalculate the zoom Peter Laulund Natioanl Survey and Cadaster, Denmark -- To unsubscribe from this list, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MAPINFO-L" in the message body, or contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi Zoran! Se interleaved replies below. Apparently, MI can only create horizontal or vertical ellipses. I do not think this is possible. There are some rotate-objects utilities around, but they work poorly on this kind of objects. Why? Ellipses, arcs and rectangles are to be considered as decorative map elements, and are not to be used to describe real world objects. Exception: cisterns or other circular buildings. 2) an algorithm/code for moving nodes of adjacent polygons (that is, I want to change the shape of adjacent polygons by offsetting their common nodes). MI - Layout window plotting query
Folks, Here's an interesting one to solve. I have an A4 layout window, containing a layout from a Mapper window. Inset in this layout window is a titleblock, that contains a scanned and registered TIF company logo and also MapInfo vector data (lines and text). When I plot the layout, everything is OK (in the vector data) except the TIF image in the titlelock contains distorted colours. So I opened another layout window containing just the titleblock (composed of the TIF and vector data) and plotted it. The TIF image colours were fine. I then opened another layout window and made another layout containing the master map window and my inset titleblock map window containing the TIF. I then plotted it and everything was OK. I then switched back to my original layout, re-plotted, and the TIF colours were stuffed again! Any ideas? I tried this on MapInfo 5.5 and 6.0 with identical results. A review of the workspace in Wordpad did not shed any light on the problem. I've plotted other wordspaces containing exactly the same titleblock (with associated TIF) and they have been (and still are) OK. I'm plotting to an Epson Stylus Colour 440. MI RE: rotated ellipses and moving nodes of polygons
To your first question, there is a three shot answer: 1 - create your ellipse of the size you need and centered where it should be 2 - convert it to region (you can set the number of nodes in the converted ellipse; by default it is 100; use the mapbasic window and run SET RESOLUTION ) 3 - use one of the rotation tools available It is not like drawing it directly, you do not have an object identifiable as an ellipse, but you have something pretty c;ose to it. MI: True type font As Symbol
Hi! Mr Jacques Paris posted this message regarding a question on True type font in MapInfo (05/09/2000): ** If a true type font is installed in Windows, it should be available as a text font, but not necessarily as a Symbol. I do not know what to do for MI to accept it as a symbol. But you can still use it by creating a text object of one character, typing the character code you need and selecting the text style of the "symbol" font. Such solution has many advanyages over the "accepted" symbols. It is not contrained in size at 48 pts. It can be angled. It remains proportionnate to the scale of the mapper. The drawbacks I know of are that the objects are not centered on a given position (position of text objects is by their anchor point = top left corner of MBR) and rotation is around that "excentric" point. Besides their size not being constrained, one must always check when creating objects that their point size is under control. I have used those features in an application (GRADARRO.mbx on our site) that positions, sizes and orientates arrows on point locations according to 2 variables similar to slope direction and intensity. I would not have been able to do so with "symbols". A ttf name FLECHE01 containing different straight arrow types is also available for download. But I would still wish to learn how to make MI recognize a TTF as a symbol font. Jacques Paris ** Here as we proceed for making MI recognize a TTF as a symbol: -We use "Fontographer" software from Macromedia -Open the TTF file in this Sofware -Select the advanced option and... -Select "Use Symbol encoding (PC only)" option -Save the New TTF File and you can now use it as a symbol!! MI Layout merge
I've got about 60 workspaces each containing an A4 layout. I'd like to somehow streamline "merging" 4 A4 containing wor files into one A2 format wor file. Is there an elegant solution to do it?
