MI : ODBC and Informix
We received MI 6.0 and installed it, including ODBC drivers. Before this, we were running MI 5.0 with the Informix driver 3.10 (Intersolv for MapInfo) without problem. As we noticed that no driver is now proposed for Informix 7.X (but only for 9.X), we reverted back to MI 5.0 and the original drivers. From now on, no ODBC connection is now possible with our Informix database: we always get a message from the Intersolv driver saying "Attempt to connect...Connection refused" after the ODBC source dialog box is presented. Re: MI Business Objects
Greetings, Flavio and List. Here at Digi-Tek we have developed a prototype interface between Business Objects and MapInfo. Essentially - a Business Objects Report is converted to a MI table where it is joined with the relevant map layer. This is done by hitting a new control on the Business Objects Report screen. The only condition - the first field must have the unique ID in it (character). The map appears as a child window to Business Objects. The other way works, too. Select a bunch of objects on the map, return to Business Objects, and those objects are filtered into a new Report. This was prepared for the benefit of several Israeli customers, and according to their comments the interface may be modified. But in principle it is very straightforward. Once the layer is in MapInfo, all of MI Pro functionality is available. More details on request. MI Text - Labels.
I know this has come up from time to time but I still seem to be haunted By the overlapping text labeling syndrome. I have a number of points - lets say 20. Each has a code - e.g. Por20, Por38 All I want to do is to show all the labels to indicate which point is which when printed. Our client insists on not retaining a digital copy so I have to resort to a hardcopy solution. Many of the points (labels overlap) hence not being able to read them. All I need to do is to Disperse the point labels in a logical fashion. Is there a quick and easy solution ? I really do not want to relocate the labels manually. RE: MI Help with Canadian Provincial Abbreviations
Hi all, I think this originally only went to Dara, so sorry for the duplication, but "Nunavut" is the correct spelling, and "NT" the abbreviation, same as for NWT, even though they're separate territories. For other info on postal codes/abbreviations for provinces, territories and the like go to the Canada Post site, it's at: www.canadapost.ca Cheers, -Sidney Sidney McLean Child, Youth and Social Development Studies Applied Research Branch-HRDC 165 Hotel de Ville Phase II, 7th Floor Hull, Quebec K1A 0J2 -- Original Text -- From: "John Chioles" [EMAIL PROTECTED], on 2000-07-25 03:12 PM: According to my sources 1) Nunavut is correct 2) NU is the abbreviation -Original Message- From: Lindsay Giles [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2000 12:13 PM To: 'Thompson, Dara L. I am adding a 2-character field to the "Cncty_3k" file to identify the Canadian Province (or Territory). As my source for the 2-digit code, I am using the "Province" column in the "Canada" table. I believe that both tables are the supplied with MapInfo. Here are the problems: 1). The "Cncty_3k" file says that the provincial name is "Nunvaut". The "Canada" file says that it is spelled "Nunavut". Which is correct? 2). The "Canada" file says that the abbreviation for Nunavut is "NT". That is the same abbreviation for the Northwest Territories. Can someone tell me what the abbreviation is for the Northwest Territories as well as the Nuvaut Territory? Re: MI Directions Magazine Tools list
Click on "All Tools" listed under "Browse by Category" or try "Search" listed across teh top of the right hand frame on that page. It does seem hard to find things here sometimes. What would make it easier? Suggestions anyone? It is possible to create an alternate index, because each file and/or its description is liked to a URL. For example, you can download Mark Crompton's CreateConfig.zip at http://www.directionsmag.com/tools/default.asp?a=downloadfilename=CreateConfig.zipid=265 or you can link to just the description page (which also has the download link) at http://www.directionsmag.com/tools/default.asp?a=fileid=265. - Bill Thoen GISnet, 1401 Walnut St., Suite C, Boulder, CO 80302 tel: 303-786-9961, fax: 303-443-4856 mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.ctmap.com/gisnet [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The website http://www.directionsmag.com/tools/ contains many strange and wonderfull tools. I can make the maps interactive in MI, but there's no links included in the HTML version...I would like to enable and end user( without MI installed )to be able to view the maps, click on the company locations and be redirected to that website, all from their web browser. Is this possible with MI 6.0, or will I need MapX/MapXtreme?? TIA Natalie Swayze application/ms-tnef

MI MB Select using string variable
This may be simple but I can't get MB 6 ( using MI 5.5) to act on the following Dim MySQL as String MySQL = "Population 1" Select * from MyTable Where MySQL No errors - it just does not resolve MySQL and the 'where' is ignored I CAN put an integer variable in place of 1 Dim MyVal as integer MyVal = 10 Select * from MyTable where population MyVal but not for the whole 'where' string. Now if I wanted to say change to =how would I do it ? Is this a limitation or am I missing something? MI SUM : dos shell
Thanks to all who gave me some hints. Here is my original query and the summary I reconstituted: I would like to run a dos program from within MI by using the RUN PROGRAM statement. With my 5.5, it works well, like a meteor! I just get a glance to the dos window and bye bye. Is there a way to keep the dos window open in order to have a look at the output? Or to redirect the output to a text file like in the manual example? To keep the dos shell window open, there is only one way: 1Create a DOS batch file with the appropriate dos program call 2Then use the Run command to execute the batch file. If you want to redirect the output to your favourite file, you must also do it be way of the bat file. Incidentally, it was a long time since I have not used a bat file. For those who were born UW, it is a simple text file with a .bat that you can prepare with notepad (no need to use a dos editor). It would look like ...\prog_dos.exe {any parameter, filename, etc. as required by the program} If you want to redirect the output to a text file then the first line should read ...\prog_dos.exe { } ...\any_file.txt Jacques PARIS e-mail[EMAIL PROTECTED] For MapInfo support, see the Paris PC Consult enr. site at http://www.total.net/~rparis/gisproducts.htm -- To unsubscribe from this list, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MAPINFO-L" in the message body, or contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Title: RE: MI Launching mapinfo without SplashScreen If you have trouble with that command line, it may be due to it's syntax which should be placed outside the quotes in your command string: "[your drive letter]:\[mapinfo program path\mapinfow.exe" -nosplash If your executable file is located within a directory with a name longer than 8 characters (ie Windows default "Program Files" folder) the quotes are needed and note that you include the space between the last quote and "-nosplash" Dave - Original Message - From: Scott Hall To: 'Geografa y Electrnica, SA de CV' Cc: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2000 1:06 PM Subject: RE: MI Launching mapinfo without SplashScreen Try... mapinfow.exe -nosplash Scott -Original Message- From: Geografa y Electrnica, SA de CV [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2000 1:46 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: MI Launching mapinfo without SplashScreen Hi. Re: MI Help with Canadian Provincial Abbreviations
Hello! I'm from Canada and Nunavut was supposed to be NU but then someone at Canada Post taught some french canadian would have been greatly offended by NU which could mean Nude (nue) in french. So Nunavut was NT, some Inuit were not happy about that position so when the story came out, every french canadian was laughting about the NU thing. So Nunavut will become NU once and for all and every one will live happy ever after. Canadian politicsisn't it great! Re: MI ? regarding creating a grid
Hi Dale, I think there is another useful program "GRIDMAKE.EXE" at the web site of Archaeology in Sydney university, in YOUR country. I read an explanation written Dr. Ian Johnson's book but cannot understand it well. If you or someone else know it well, please tell me it briefly. It is a dos program and seems to create MIF/MIF files. Dr. Johnson said it was more flexible than Gridmaker.mbx. Thanks in advance.
