A very annoying feature that has struck me is that once you've created the
chart and placed it in the layout the legend attached to the chart
continually resizes and displaces itself to a different position. You
constantly have to change it in the graph window
Hi Denis
The UT is a light version of FME from Safe Software and it works the same
way. This mean that you can run it from the commandline, from a batch file
or from a MapBasic program. The command is

a MapBasic question here (and i imagine it will be dead simple). i have

Dear Matt
I can confirm that I have seen both of your messages.
However a good reply is not so easy! If I was going to do this I think I
would develop a program to read the table of styles ( embedded inside
each MAP file ) and edit these direct. I would then have a program that

It draws Maps in 5mn and not posters in 1hour.
Please send feedback on the Version 1.40Beta

Dear Sue and Roy
I didn't see the orginal question, but wonder if the following is yet
another approach.
Run an SQL that selects all objects where value = "S" into tabS. Select
all where value="T" into tabT. In layer control remove your original
layer but add in both queries, tabS and tabT. Now
Hi Jonathon
This is easy to do, but I think its worth pointing out that MBR for
objects ( which you need ) and MBRs for MAPS and tables are for
fundamentally different purposes.
You attached a message from Matt that referred to the MAP MBR. These are
only there to increase tha accuracy MapInfo
A simple way to combine tables is through
the "append rows" function. You
can use this to append any two tables
of identical structure. This
procedure would need to be repeated
for each successive table to add and can
therefore be somewhat time consuming.

Hello all,
Does anyone know whether or not it is possible to save workspaces onto a cd,
so that they can be reopened from a different pc( i.e. one that does not
have the original .tab files in the directory which they were made in)?

Is there a Mapbasic program that would load all available layers for the

would like to hit a button and have all the layers I have show up.

I asked this question of MapInfo Tech Support a couple of months ago regarding v5.0.
They told me it was not possible to control the UT or ArcLink through Mapbasic.
If anyone knows of any way to run these tools other than "manually", I would very much
like to know also.
thanx

I agree, the UT is really not crashing, but merely not readily visible.
I use the old Windows technique of alt-tab to cycle through what
applications are open. The UT always comes up this way.

Dear List,
I have been searching for a MB utility that would determine the
compactness of an irregularly shaped polygon. I checked the list archives
and found a couple of references to compactness, but I could not find any
information about a "compactness utility." My questions is simple,

I know there is a way to set an environment variable in the system
properties in NT (and it can be done in 95 98 too). Is there a way to
use that variable for workspaces? If so, the user would just have to
specify the variable on their machine and the workspace would work. A
slight pain, but
It shouldn't matter, as long as the .wor and all associated tab files are
in the
same directory on the CD. In a typical .wor file, you will see the line:

Simply edit it to read:

It is possible providing you follow these rules:
1. place all your tables and workspaces in one folder on the CD after
editing out any drive:\folder prefix in the workspaces. There may be a way
to use UNC's instead of drive:\folder to locate your tables if you wish to
retain the folder

Dear listers,
Another label question - my apologies if this has been covered lately.
I have two tables, one of which called STATION contains graphic point
locations and attribute data. The second table, SUBSTAT contains strictly
non-spatial attribute data but can be joined back to the STATION
Natalie,
What I do is manually edit the paths in the workspace file to make them
relative rather than absolute (ie .\data rather than c:\data). This means
that the files can be either run directly from the CD, or placed in any
other part of the directory structure on another machine, under a
