Erin,
There is at least one program able to replace text avoiding overlaps. It is
called Maplex and ESRI UK sells it. It is a quite expensive program,
something like $20.000 or even more.
See below fro some information form www.esri.com: http://www.esri.com:

I wonder if anyone has come across this problem:
Some time ago I tried to send a map window to a friend, using the option

Apparently Outlook Express does not support the full MAPI standard
(according to Microsoft) so this may be involved. I have never tried to send
mail from MapInfo, so I offer the above as a tentative suggestion. Have you
tried Microsoft Knowledge Base?

Hello,
My VB application makes calls to MapBasic's "Set Map Zoom Entire Layer
layername", but if there are no objects in that layer, MapInfo bring up a
dialog box with the message "No Objects Found in Layer". How can I suppress
this dialog box using MapBasic statements? I've tried "Set Event
Does anyone out there have experience with the UTM coordinate system for the
country of Columbia? I am interested in .prj script for all the UTM zones
and any other tid-bits of wisdom that are out there.
Thanks.

I've found a bug that you may want to be aware of.
With the Universal Translator in MI 5.0, if you try to import an autocad
dwg file, with a name such as "My file.dwg", the UT will die on you. It'w
enough to rename it as "Myfile.dwg" to get it imported.

You can find digitized provincial and federal boundaries (and other
geographic stuff) for free at http://geogratis.cgdi.gc.ca/frames.html (DXF
format). Hope that's specific enough for your electoral needs! Christine

Why don't you try to "save the window as" a jpeg *.jpg, and view it with
Netscape or Explorer?
You can even create a larger image, defining a larger "image size"

I have some aerial photography onto which I am overlaying other

any way within the mapinfo environment that I can adjust the
brightness/contrast of these photos?
I have tried exporting the window as numerous file types and
Hello all, I created points manually (lat, lon) in a spreadsheet program and am
attempting to bring them into a MI map. The scales seem to be way off and I guess I
figured it should be easier than it is. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Hello List,
I'm a bit away from the list and internet and miss you much...
There is a temporary problem with my

I hope i will return back to list soon
Meanwhile, if is there any problem or feedback about my mbx's
anybody can reach me from this address.

I know this will seem trivial to many but for the life of me I can't
figure it out!
I have three layers: The first layer is a region layer divided up into
many polygons. The second layer is a bunch of lines. The third layer is
points. what I can do is cut one of the polygon regions from the map
Yes, I found this possibility. I just don't want to fix the workspace for missing
layers "by hand" or forceps if I have hundreds of layers to replace. Besides, I was
hopping for something new on this matter. Like an "workspace application interface"
that would load an workspace template and
use the "Table, Raster, Adjust Image Styles ..." menu, select the image to
modify, and then you can change the contrast and brightness

Hi folks,
Did any one know of a tool that can open a workspace and automatically
save the workspace (map window or the layout) as a jpg or bmp or jpeg?
If you know could you please tell me where to find it or if you've any
other suggestions to easily and automatically center each of 1055
First I want to thank all of you for your response, the list has come
through again!
Thanks a ton!
If anyone is interested I did use #8, but I had to save it as a .jpg not wmf
file. I inserted it into Word and it looks great!
Thanks again, Cn
Note: I know it is important how you word things
I have a series of workspaces based on 8 specific regions in California. I
print two layouts for each region, one is the map and the other is table
information. It's time consuming to go into each folder, bring up the
workspace, open the layouts, print each one, close the workspace, go into the
Hi Othman
You can create your own 'tool' using a text editor.
Assuming you have a table that has a unique column name then simply set your
map to show the desired information at the required 'scale' and create a
text file that looks something like this
dim sName as string
dim x,y as float
Hello folks,
Yeah, it's a pain. Mostly, our workspaces are too old and tired, and aren't
worth saving. Still, some must be so I've been using NR. Find it at
