Max,
About a year ago I wrote an application I called
MBwin_plus.mbx to do that. It can be downloaded from DirectionsMagazine site
from Utilities section.
See following URL:

Unfortunately (and strangely), although
could you just select the areas you want and then export - close all -
import ?

I've had similar experiences. The 3D image alone looks pretty good, unless
you drape something over it.
Am I right in saying that you need to convert contour lines to points to
take full advantage of the interpolation? It just seems to use the one
point on each polyline as a height value
... :-)
geographic 3D is an art ...
I've been using MI, VM, a whole bunch of home grown tools to produce my 3D
models, as well as a lot of time consuming trial and error ... and a few
years later I can tell you :
To produce a good 3D model, a good tool is necessary, that's sure (and MI
MI uses a matrix mesh to render the geometry ... and not a Triangulated
Irregular Network (a Delaunay triangulation).
When using such a matrix, you just can't expect to get sharp edges (near
vertical facets), so, if you're reservoir is near a hillside, it'll spill
over it... same applies with
Hi Ian,
You could always try Vertical Mapper for MapInfo.
Some of the product features include:
Interpolate values between points
Colour and display grids
Intervisibility and viewshed tools
Contour creation from points
Natural neighbourhood regions and density surfaces
Trade area (huff) modeller
There is a MI tool that does not appear in the tool bars and that may be the
answer to your question. It is defined in the menu.def file as
Define M_TOOLS_SEARCH_POLYGON 1733
It allows you to draw a polygon and use it as the basis to your search
(different from the polygon search tool
Hello List,
We are a mining exploration company and use MapInfo extensively in
conjunction with major earth science applications (Geosoft, ERMapper,
ModelVision, etc). Late June I reported a bug to Geosoft Corp. with regards
to import of MI-TAB file into their earth science application (Oasis
You should look in the archives, I think that the definition of the
centroid changed in the latest MI releases, and that it had been adressed
in this list ...
The simple definition of the centroid as the average of the min max values
could lead to a centroid external to the polygon... so MI
The above was taken from the MI v6.0 glossy brochure. The pictures
look OK. Maybe a bit blocky but much better than I can produce!
Has anyone tried to do the same?
First, Eric's comments are spot on, especially "geographic 3D is an art".
Second, you can definitely "try Vertical Mapper" from
LaunchURL() calls the function ShellExecute() to start your default
browser.Because ShellExecute is not a Mapbasic function but a Windows
API function, you will need to pre-declare it.
You must include a statement like the following in the declaration section
of your Mapbasic program.
I would like to pipe in. I took a DEM from NY's GIS Clearinghouse and
converted to grid (DEM to GRID tool)and overlaid a road centerline file and
then viewed in 3D and it looks great. These new DEM's are much better than
the older ones. So, there might be an issue with "garbage in garbage out"
Hello all,
I use this method to calculate centroid:
For each region:
1. Calculate MBR (Xmin, Xmax, Ymin, Ymax)
2. Set an horizontal (or vertical) line in (Ymax - Ymin)/2
3. Calculate intersection between the previous line and all the segments of
the region
(at least there are two intersection:
Hi all,
Thanks for having a look :)
We are using Mapinfo Pro 6, have GB200Pro and Post point pro datasets (UK

We have an imported table that also contains postcodes and demographic
information. This has been geocoded against the Postpoint to give locations
of each point.
We wish to
Hi guys:
I am trying to upload my tables into oracle 8i

edit and update same table simultaneously. But I am not sure about the comple

Hello list,
Since many MI users often struggle with Intergraph formatted
data translation issues, this new resource is likely a good
source for answers to your questions.

Hello list!
Many thanks to Juanse Barros, Peter, Jacques Paris, Mark Denil, Flavio Hendry, Bill

coordinates in the

Anyone have any links for Lima, Peru data?
this would include street files, dem files, building height files etc.
I am just starting my search for available data in Lima and any pointers
would help. Free data is always best but Commercial sources are fine too.

HI
Does anyone know of a utility that will allow you
to select a point in a MapInfo Table and graph a set of values within that
table? Any direction in this matter would be appreciated.

Shawn, I have copied the contents of a response by Peter Laulund to an

I dont know enough about your problem to know if it will do the trick for
you. Please read Peter's comment about the need to calculate the

Well, I just tried home-to-work and found a couple of issues:
1) My house has moved about 2 blocks down the street, which is fine because
the houses are nicer down there, but might just confuse my guests.
2) The route to my office was the longest of 3 ways to go - by about 2 miles
and maybe 10
When working on an fme conversion from autocad dwg to mapinfo tables
we opted to use mapinfo font points to simulate autocad blocks.
This works well with the exception that the true type font symbols are not
able
to be scaled. That is, no matter what map scale the symbols are displayed
they are
Title: RE: high res image generator
Convert the image to 8 bit or get a copy of MI 6.0. ECW files will print at 24 bit out of MI 5.5 but you would have to convert your imagery to ECW format (www.ermapper.com).
