Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Re: PR translations
Hi, Takeshi Abe wrote on 2011-05-24 16.05: What we agreed during the latest marketing conference call, is to build up a network of marketeers, so we have a bit more structure inside, and some responsibilities defined. On some mailing lists I see a lack of activity, and I would like to work together with all of you in building up local communities, especially in terms of marketing. That sounds reasonable. Local markets are worth to explore. I definitely think so. It is no secret that also within OOo, some marcons have been active, others haven't at all. That's why I want to build a network of active marketeers, so we can work effectively together. I'll follow-up on that hopefully soon. Hm, I do *not* think that the same-time translation of the original announcement is needed in general, because it means an extra step required for delivering security fix. But sooner translation can be desirable if, e.g., the message contains description of procedures which users have to perform to avoid the vulnerability, instead of the software upgrade. (Anyway this may be rather off-topic in this list.) Right now, we haven't issued any security bulletin so far, which is good news. :) What I would propose is that we see if translating them after we have published them is enough, or if we need an additional way of posting it in advance and under confidentiality to some marketeers to translate in time. [libreoffice-marketing] changes for this mailing list
Hello everyone, as part of our membership process, we also would like to give @libreoffice.org e-mail forwarders to our approved members. Thanks to the folks from Heinlein Support in Berlin, who offered to take care of the mail forwarding and to program a web tool to enable users to configure the forwarding! In order to be able to use two different mail servers -- one for mailing lists, and one for the mail forwarders -- we have to change the addresses of a few mailing lists. In a nutshell: All lists currently known as @libreoffice.org will in the future be known as @global.libreoffice.org In detail: accessibil...@libreoffice.org = accessibil...@global.libreoffice.org des...@libreoffice.org = des...@global.libreoffice.org documentat...@libreoffice.org = documentat...@global.libreoffice.org l...@libreoffice.org = l...@global.libreoffice.org marketing@libreoffice.org = market...@global.libreoffice.org proje...@libreoffice.org = proje...@global.libreoffice.org us...@libreoffice.org = us...@global.libreoffice.org webs...@libreoffice.org = webs...@global.libreoffice.org You do *not* have to un- or resubscribe from any lists, as the list of all recipients will be automatically transferred to the new addresses. The subject prefix, like [libreoffice-website], will also stay the *same*. What *will* change is the address you have to send e-mails to, and the headers like List-Post and List-ID. So, in case you filter your e-mails based on the headers, you *do* need to act. This is most likely the case if you use a local mail client like Thunderbird. Webmail services like Google Mail usually do *not* make use of these headers. The change will be effective during the day of Thursday, June 9th I will send a follow-up e-mail when the addresses have changed. Immediately after that, assume the old addresses will stop working. I will try to set them as aliases for a few days, but I cannot guarantee it will work out. However, *no* e-mail will be lost -- in case there is no alias in place, you will receive a bounce message and can re-send the mail again. Sorry for these inconveniences, but they will help us in providing e-mail forwarders for our members. In case of questions, feel free to ask me directly, or on the website@ mailing list. Hi, webmaster for Kracked Press Productions wrote on 2011-05-25 13.45: are you saying that we now will need to change the sending address to this? yes. So if we are sending a new email to the marketing, or users, lists, we will have to add the global. the the address? Exactly. But addresses like market...@us.libreoffice.org will by unchanged? Correct. Any list that already has a subdomain, like @us.libreoffice.org, @de.libreoffice.org and so on will be *unchanged*. The same is true for lists at @documentfoundation.org - it solely affects @libreoffice.org so we have to do the changeover that day, and not before or after that date? Exactly. Not before that day. Chances are, I keep an alias for a while, but in case that's technically not possible, you will receive a bounce on the old address, as soon as the change is effective. [libreoffice-marketing] need to redue the Extensions page on libreplanet.org/wiki
With Oracle's dropping OOo, the links for the Extensions at http://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:OpenOfficeExtensions/List seem not to work most times. I went directly to Oracle's OOo page[s] for Extensions and Templates and have the time I get Problem loading page - The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. server error, or some other saying the same thing. OOo seem to no longer to be a place to link to for extension or template files. I wonder how long it will be before the site will be completely down, instead of not working half the time. It may be time for people at TDF and the marketing groups to start their own list of these files, instead of having links to Oracle's site that has all these page loading issues. It does not look well for us to tell our users to go to a site where they will have problems downloading the .oxt files. Time to take the incentive and get our own page[s] for all the add-ons that we thing our users might need or use. I know that some of these extensions are now bundled with the installs, but we need to go farther than that. I have many, many, of these add-ons [.oxt file] on my computer and the NA DVD project has some of these on our testing site, and the DVD itself. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to marketing+h...@libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Hi Tim Le 2011-05-25 11:50, webmaster for Kracked Press Productions a écrit : So even if Oracle drops all support for OOo, this site will still be up? Oracle has ended OOo support and development, according to the news on the lists and such. So I wonder what will happen to the OOo domain since Oracle owns that name as a trademark. Who will be paying for the domains name and such if Oracle ends everything involved with that name and product line? That is some of my concern. I think TDF should think about creating their own list of Extensions and Templates that is hosted and stored on a site that TDF controls, SO we do not need to have LO users go to a OOo site. There are people working on this but it takes time and a lot of energy to get them right. There is a test site for extensions being worked on by Andreas[1] and I had been involved in trying to migrate the templates to the TDF/LibreOffice site. I am hoping we could adapt the test site for template submissions as well. But these need more development and testing and, ... time.
