Moving beyond this is happening in lots
In late 2008, we began publishing
our materials on Flickr, in relatively high image sizes. We also started
releasing information about our collections in ways that were easily
findable by researchers. In March of this year, my boss commented that

are a lot of good arguments for very big images online now:
1) modern browsers handle
useful images to the public, with or without tools such as
Zoomify.

I'm wondering what size(s) of images people are using in their internal
databases? 1024 pixels on the long side plus a thumbnail view? What size do you
use for online purposes?
