[MCN-L] Carnegie Hall Digital Collections - explore 80k+ historic items

2019-10-10 Thread Kathryn Gronsbell
Hello all,

Last week, Carnegie Hall announced the launch of its new online Digital
Collections, inviting the general public to search, explore, and download
more than 80,000 recently digitized historic items from its Archives. This
initial preview, drawn from the Hall's legacy collections, offers a window
into the history of the Hall's earliest decades, starting with its opening
in 1891. Items include Carnegie Hall concert programs and flyers from
1891-1925; photographs; correspondence; newspaper clippings; autographs;
booking ledgers; and a small number of promotional films with performance
excerpts from the 1950s. We are excited to invite the MCN community to
explore this first batch of materials.

Visit the *Carnegie Hall Digital Collections
at collections.carnegiehall.org <https://collections.carnegiehall.org/> *to
explore, download, or share items from the Carnegie Hall Archives.

In this release, all items have been determined to either have no copyright
under US laws, or no known copyright restrictions (each item is assigned a
standardized rights statement from RightsStatements.org
<https://rightsstatements.org/>). The public may download and use Digital
Collections content for any lawful purpose, commercial or non-commercial,
provided the use is not for advertising, marketing, trade or any other
purposes that may implicate rights of publicity or privacy of individuals
named, depicted, or otherwise identified.

As part of this work, the Archives is requesting feedback about how you
wish to engage with the Hall's history. Information gathered from this
survey
<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CarnegieHallDigitalCollectionsPreview> will
assist with improving the user experience of the current site, planning for
releases of new material, and building a better collections discovery layer
in the future. If you check out the Digital Collections, please consider
taking the brief survey linked above or towards the bottom of the
collections.carnegiehall.org home page.

More details about the announcement, the Digital Collections initiative,
and the collections are available here

.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thank you,
Kathryn
