I've spent 2 days working to clean the tank. I did 6 ammonia
washes, 3 with washing soda, 2 with dawn, and 2 pressure washes.
The ammonia did a good job depolymerizing the fry oil gunk, and that
freed up a lot of the rusty stuff.
It is now in the drying out stage.
I changed all the rubber
I've bought snowmobile parts from Pat, very nice to deal with.

Interestingly, the presence of lead pipe is due to an old safety
requirement for piping.
Iron pipe from the street to the house is prone to cracking from the
inevitable settling of backfill and other ground movements (along with
the main cast iron pipes used at the time for mains moving).
I LOVE my Ace Hardware. I spend more time and money there than any
of the big box home stores. For that matter, I haven't been in one
of them in several months. I'm at my Ace nearly every weekend.
Most hardware stores are disappointing any more. I find more stuff
in the farm store.
Mao,
I think you live too close to Chicago. Is there lead in your water too? I don't
think either party has done a good job in recent decades, but if we all give
up, I don't see things getting better.

Do it, man, you won’t regret it. If I had my way I would replace the W140s with
W126 diesels, but my kids would have a hissy fit. Although I will say that my
youngest son who drives the 94 S420 had some friends over the other day, and
they loved my 350SDL - better than his S420.
