Here's an update on my clicking issue with my 87 300D.
Stage 1: Clicking noises from behind glovebox occasionally after a cold
start. Disappear after 5-10 minutes.
Stage 2: Clicking noises now occur after every single cold start, but still
disappear after 5-10 minutes.

My 1987 300D has recently developed this problem, and I'm sure other

initial startup, I hear a constant clicking noise from behind the

Check the condition of the interior temp sampler motor -- having a bad
motor or loose hose will cause temperature mode switching (you are
hearing the solenoid for the mode switch).
