My motorcycle doesn't vibrate much -- it is an I-4, not a V-Twin.

You need to be careful about a GPS on the motorcycle -- vibrations are
not good for the unit, bright sunlight, and the mount needs to be much
more sturdy than what the car mount is. I think Garmin has some
specifically for motorcycles. I think all the units pretty much use the
same map set.
great for me. I especially
like it when I've got directions and I'm starting to wonder "did I miss my
turn?" Dial in the map to the right zoom level and I can tell...

Actually, I want it more for places like Des Moines and Minneapolis.

We had a "map" thing in the HH-3F (late 1970s) -- you put a paper map on the
display and Loran C would punch a hole (using a pin) every so often to mark
your route and position.
Hard to believe that Loran C was the baddest kid on the block in those days
-- the plane I flew in (nav position) still
map, shows MPH, much more.

I have never owned a GPS. Want to fix that.
I have two requirements.
1. Anal-retentive as I am, I would like to get a true mph reading so I know
how far off my speedometers are. This is hopefully cheap.
2. I want turn-by-turn directions -- or at least a good map -- to drive
around in new surroun
