Not sure. I think dielectric has predictable insulating
characteristics and other grease is just largely insulating.
Also, all the dielectric grease I have seen is non-petroleum so
grease gun grease works too. moly, or the red stuff. WHeel bearing
grease also works on batt'ry posts.

Dielectric grease _is_ an insulator, but it's mechanically so weak that
it's no impediment
to the electrical contacts. It's a barrier only to oxygen, moisture, and
corrosion. The point
of this grease _is_ that it's an insulator, and so doesn't affect the
normal operation of
switches and

Vaseline also works on battery terminals, but it doesn't have the staying
power of dielectric grease.

What's the difference between dielectric grease and axle (or any other
kind) grease? How does applying an insulator improve an electrical
connection?

CBT Clean, Bright, Tight . is the rule.
When you take the cable clamps off, look for black oxide coating on the
posts and cables. This material is apparently the greatest insulator known.
It kills battery connection completely.
Once clean, I always coat the posts with dielectric grease.
That sure could be the issue.

So I drove the sdl all over tulsa today running errands. Made several stops.
When I started it back up once it had the problem. Started it cured it like
normal. When I got ready to leave from the next stop the car was completely
dead. No power at all. I checked the battery connections and while
