To everyone that took the time to comment on my questions - Thanks. We got
it started and put some money down to hold it. It took a lot of cranking
and we had to purchase a new group 49 battery to get it going. It has the
dreaded loop glowplugs. We dropped in a clear fuel filter that I had in a

Haven't heard of that one on a Benz, but I've had it happen on a Volvo.
If you're lucky maybe it's just stripped the wiper arm. On most

You're lucky my luck is the driver's side went. Replace the whole
wiper transmission. The air intake
Drive over, put a battery in, and start it. I have started many diesels
right up that have not been started in a year or 2. Hell, I have
several in the back that will start right up after sitting.

I bought my '82 300CD under similar circumstances, and here is what I did:
1) Check the status of the fuel and fuel filters. If the prefilter
is black, or the fuel itself is suspect, change the filters and drain

have an adventure lined up for this weekend. We've been made aware of a
1979 240D with an owner that would like to move it. The car has been
sitting for a year and hasn't been started in that timeframe. I don't know

of heavy duty jumper cables along because you will probably need to start it
