True. I got a “hose mender” kit at FLAPS, but the 3/4” hose barb fitting was too small in diameter. So off to my Ace hardware and there I found a nylon 3/4” hose barb that was larger in diameter and fit perfectly. I as hoping to find a brass hose barb but they didn’t have anything that big

It got compromised because the clamp I used to clamp it off perforated the hose. I'm comfortable with the integrity of the hose itself. I'm going to look for a metal or plastic sleeve for the repair. I'm not terribly keen on the silicone tape thing, as a repair like this tends to fail again

Penny wise, pound foolish. Odds of durable patch are pretty much zero. High chance of failure and overheating engine on freeway with attendant head issues. I like the cut and splice metal sleeve in idea. But it cracked for a reason. I never really mind shelling out cash for oe hoses when needed,

Good point, and something to consider for sure. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the hose itself is in good condition and does not appear likely to fail otherwise. -D > On Mar 22, 2017, at 9:19 PM, Max Dillon via Mercedes > wrote: > > I don't like the idea of

I don't like the idea of patching it, failure of a coolant hose can be catastrophic. Maybe splice in a metal pipe with MB hose clamps? Could the hose be ready to fail in another place? -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '87 300TD '95 E300 ___

It’s a weirdly molded hose with a bunch of strange turns in it. It’s certainly possible I could use bulk hose, but I would have to come up with an in-line fitting (tee) where the little line comes off to feed the windshield plate heater near one end. I don’t think any of the bends in it are

Most FLAPS now have metric size hose in bulk length... is it possible you could replace it with a fresh piece of bulk hose? Virus-free. www.avast.com

I think I have a moderate chance of success. I’ll drain the cooling system a little so I don’t have to worry about coolant leaking out while I do the job, and I’ll be using a 3M silicone hose product, so no cheap materials in play. I’ll check to see if the MB hose is NLA or not as a last

I’m picking up some silicone sealing tape tomorrow. I had clamped off the hose yesterday while troubleshooting my ACC system, and I suspect the edge of the clamp I used cut into or creased the hose. The leak is just a tiny spot that’s no more than 1/8”. The hose itself is in good condition,

Just found a small crack in a hose that goes from the left rear of the engine near the oil filter housing into the “false firewall” and over to the heat exchanger connection. From the looks of the EPC it’s also got a little branch that comes off to feed the windshield plate heater. MB part
