I just might go take a peek at it. What would be a deal breaker for this? AZBob Sent from Mail for Windows From: dan penoff.com via MercedesSent: Monday, February 27, 2023 12:44 PMTo: Mercedes ListCc: dan penoff.comSubject: Re: [MBZ] '03 ML500 Actually, being an ML500, which has extra goodies over

Consider that I paid $6k for the 2003 ML350 you checked out for me. This is
much nicer.

Exactly correct. I go up/down my driveway (which is somewhat bumpy with
various tree roots in the tracks, if I was staying here I would get a
coupla loads of gravel) in the 211 wagon and it is your typical MB sedan
ride, absorbs the bumps with no drama. The E500 with air ride, which is

No not really, they are a "truck" and as such ride and handle like one
with a stiff suspension and a higher ground clearance. But if you want
to tow stuff, and have the AWD that can get you through some significant
stuff, they are a good choice. Fun would be in off-roading, they are

I’m not sure I would say they’re “fun” to drive, but if you’re looking for a
truck-like ride they fit the bill. They’re heavy and ride harshly, just as you
would expect a 4WD truck on a frame to be.
I like them, but as a truck or SUV. I don’t think I would want to make any long
trips in one,
So when all is said and done are they fun to drive?

The 500s are the worst, they’ll tear the mounts apart, especially the passenger
side mount. The mounts are very different from the typical Mercedes motor
mount, and when the metal separates from the rubber you’ll get some serious
metal to metal contact, hence the “clunk” when you accelerate or
Those are cheap to replace if you need one, just plastic stuff and they
are also quite brittle so easy to ding or break

Maybe that is what is clunking in my ML500, did not think to look at
them, thought it was something in the suspension. Good call.

Do realize that these are far from efficient vehicles, and suck down fuel at
significant volumes. A good tank will get you between 14-16 mpg. Straight out
highway and nothing else a little more, but not much.
I woud look at motor mounts on any of these, as they’re often bad as the owners
don’t
That looks pretty nice for the price, the miles are not "low" but it
looks good and not in some rustbelt area so should be very clean.
Nothing particularly exotic about these, be aware it's a "truck" and
ride like one. The 500 is quite powerful and can provide some fun in
that regard, good
I have been able to expand my foundational knowledge at your expense.
Future SIL overheated his 4runner, and now he has big boy choices to make. This
ML could be an option for him if he asks.

Just the usual stuff, like service records, etc. As long as there are no lights
lit in the cluster you’re probably good. You’ve been through a couple of MLs at
this point, they’re essentially the same with the exception of the engine.
ML500s are typically optioned out at a higher level, but
