The tach amp has an 1815; the tach amp tester has a 555.

Yes.
Here are the schematics Manfred sent me.
The PDFs for usage of the tester and the tach amp are about 800k each,
which are likely to go over the 1040 kB permitted for emails to the list.

I'll forward it to you. It's four attachments.

I think it's an LM1815. I don't actually have online notes from that era of my

Maybe I should send them to Jim and let him make them?

For '83 and earlier the gauge in the cluster merely reads the signal send
by the tachometer amplifier. In my '85 300SD car the tach gauge was

In my cars (W123 and W116 OM617 diesels), the dashboard gauge works, it's the
amplifier that's flakey.

My '85 arrived with a dead tachometer. I was able to purchase the last
tachometer/clock gauge in the USA from the Classic Center. They are
discontinued. The '84-85 models do not have a tach amp.

Here's a thread about resoldering them.
Just needs some sort of frequency-to-voltage circuit outputting the proper
voltage to show the correct RPM on the dashboard gauge. If I knew the first
thing about electronics. Maybe an approachable small project to learn on

If you mean the (exorbitantly priced) little kit w spring clip and nylon
washer that links the lifter to the glass carrier rail, it is NLA from
Mercedes-Benz. Which I find surprising, since it's practically a
consumable.
The sliding jaws were still available when I ordered some for my 116 a few

Looks like the car has been on Peachparts before, years ago. It seemed
to be a project then, and now it surfaces 11 years later. I am not sure
if $2200 or so is too much for it. I would assume whatever issues it

That is super rare. I've never even heard of this color. Buy the car or
you will forever regret it. The asking price is naively low.
