Picked up my multimeter that reads duty cycle today. Give it a quick try
but don't really know what I'm doing, so have a few questions. Not really
sure what you mean by some read 20% adn MB duty cycle is upsidedown, os it
may read 80%? I found the port and plugs it in. With a half
30% may be correct for key on, engine off. The Benz duty cycle
(actually precent of time at 12V as opposed to 0V) is backwards from
US practice, so a 20% reading on a US car will give you an 80% reading
on the Benz. Not really an issue for you, as the continious hunting
from 37-60% at idle

I blame a stressful week, and a pinhole in the radiator that drained it off
more than I'm used to it doing. Otherwise it probably would have occurred to
me to, oh, *check the coolant first*.
Ah, but the first sign of a failing water pump bearing is often coolant
leaking out the weep hole on the bottom. Do check that, and find the
coolant leak at any rate, it will only get worse otherwise

Don't feel too bad. The two cooling system items that are un-necessarily
changed more than any others are the water pump and the thermostat.
I bought a 1977 corvette a couple of years ago. It would run hot someone
had already replaced the 210 degree thermostat with a 160 degree thermostat,

That helps to clean things up. The plugs are really fouling though, so is
this the O2 reading lean from an air leak and they adding more fuel than it
can ignite? Just want to make sure I understand this? Larry also
recommended a wire and cap change due to the age and mileage.
Oh, don't feel too bad. I went through a couple of battery changes, traced
every wire in the p car once to try and find the drain, only to discover I
left a small interior light on. hee hee.
