Article in the paper (WSJ?) yesterday about profits for gas stations now -- they are making a killing as prices are dropping faster wholesale than pump prices, so the margins are quite good. Book is consistently below $10k on this car looking at other price guides. I found one at a local Lexus dealer with a little over 100k on it. Florida car, dealer maintained, etc. Look at the maintenance history on the car and all the stuff that’s been replaced: https://www.dropbox.com/s/p2rwyf5qbp85rmp/CARFAX%20Vehicle%20History%20Report%20for%20this%202001%20MERCEDES-BENZ%20S500%3A%20WDBNG75JX1A220333.pdf?dl=0 I think this is indicative of the stuff I heard when I was researching these a few months ago. [MBZ] Shop is filling up
Starting to fill up with cars. I'm going to have to build another shop at some point. Btw I leave the hoods up to cut down on rats nests. I need to work on the doors to keep mice out of the shop. I discovered a rats nest under the hood of the first car in within a couple of weeks. Started leaving the hoods up and so far they have not appear to be interested in the engine compartments. -- next part -- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... [MBZ] The car that started it all
Here is a photo of my 76 240d that started my addiction to Mercedes. It belonged to my long departed grandmother. I took my drivers test in this car. She let some relative use the car and they did something to the fender and ran it out of oil locking the engine up. I bought it off her in 97 or 98. Hauled it home pulled the engine out. It has then moved with me to 5 houses over the years, had it stored in the garage, then outside under a car cover, but the cover has long since gone. The replacement engine has been pulled and ready to drop in. She has sat outside and as with most 115s it does leak some water, interior is moldy. Looking at the underbody does have some rust starting so need to get that under control. I have neglected it too long and today it moved to my shop out of the weather. I am going to have to do some major interior cleaning to get rid of the mold smell. I bet the heater fan has locked up my now also. I should be ashamed I let it sit this long. -- next part -- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I got a big jumbo pack of just one bite, kills them quick. House had mice, found most or all of their holes and sealed them up and used the blocks, have not seen any signs of them in the house. Need to do the same in the shop. That other 115 I moved today had a massive nest from some sort of animal under the hood. The entire drivers side of the engine compartment was tightly packed with leaves. I cleaned all that out before attempting to start it because I did not want the cool wires on the glow plugs setting the leaves on fire. No wires were chewed but whatever was living under there did chew the entire positive battery connection off, damnedest thing I have seen. That is a big chunk of metal. Sounds like pack rats. I went to get some truck parts many years ago in the FLint hills of KS. It was maybe within 60 miles of Manhattan. Every truck had pack rat nests under the hood and each rat I saw run out was probably 4 to 8 lb. as big as a cat. You need a couple of rat terriers or jack russell terriers. They will get rid of the rats. Its what they were born to do. The pack of barn cats will take care of the meeses. I got a big jumbo pack of just one bite, kills them quick. House had mice, found most or all of their holes and sealed them up and used the blocks, have not seen any signs of them in the house. Need to do the same in the shop.
