Re: [MBZ] Prevost house
Don, Thanks on the Champ. It is a true barn find, well hanger find, actually. It comes with a full set of engine and airframe log books from the day it left the factory in 1946, which is incredible. In digging through the current history today I discovered it has been setting in the hanger where it is since the owner bought it 23 years ago, and not been flown... previous story was 12 years... paperwork says 23 years... so next comes a full inspection and return to legal flight status. A fun airplane to fly, if you are not in a hurry... haha... Life in the slow lane = driving a 240D to the airport to fly a Champ... then driving home... that should take up the whole day.. [MBZ] 2007 E350 4 MATIC - 141k miles - $4,800
Price is on the high side with the rebuilt title. Driver's seat has a cut on it. Would also need to check the VIN for bad engine. If engine is good might be within negotiating range. https://louisville.craigslist.org/cto/d/louisville-2007-mercedes-benz-e350-matic/7572078962.html ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Detroit Diesel is a very common engine on those older buses. A/k/a the Screamin' Jimmy. Two stroke diesels. The EPA put them out of business as they did air-cooled Porches and VWs. Re: [MBZ] Prevost house
Correct. The older Prevost all used the Detroit 8V92 engine, which means it was 8 cylinders, V configuration, and 92 cubic inches per cylinder. The early engines used strictly mechanical injection and timing, and in their day there were very skilled mechanics who could make them sing a very happy tune pulling down the road while loaded. Then came the EPA [and California CARB Rules], Detroit changed the 8V92 to DDEC [Detroit Diesel Electronic Control] and the 8V92 continued on for another decade. Finally EPA raised the emission limits to a point of "unobtainium" for the two stroke design, and Detroit shifted to only producing 4 stroke, emissions compliant, computer controlled engines [still calling the computer DDEC to keep control of the Detroit moniker. The Mercedes 40 ft. Double Deck bus I own has a late generation 8V92 DDEC engine.. and yes, I own a "big set of wrenches and a big stack of hard copy manuals" to work on it. 20 Ton jack stands, anyone? Re: [MBZ] OT Maybe I should sell my house and get this 1976 Prevost marathon coach, $28, 000
Watch some of the "Bus Grease Monkey" videos on YouTube to see what you're getting into with an old motor coach. Most recently someone bought an Eagle conversion that they paid "top dollar" for and then discovered it was so rusty underneath that the engine was about to fall out. After over 10 thousand dollars of welding in new steel framing and other repairs it was safe to drive. As I understand it, DOT inspections are not required for private "RV" titled coaches. Many have so much deferred maintenance and worn parts that they should not be considered road-worthy. And they get worked on by people who have no business touching them, to say nothing of charging money to work on them. Rule of thumb is to budget an additional 50% of what you paid to correct all the past maintenance mistakes and replace worn parts. Took out the bolts and it dropped right out, luckliy NOT on my head since I was under the car up on jack stands. Had to pull the engine mount on that side to put it back in, never did figure out the magic dance to get it up, in, and around the engine mount. If a person did them fairly often it would be a 30 min job, took me hours. If you think you can cut one out of another vehicle and reinstall it in the first one, then I would think you could make one.
