No diagrams for the seats. Well, the USA models all have electric seats, and they are different than the sketch in the CD section 91. There is a motor right and left. What I would need to do is run the right motor forward to even up the seat back. There is NO ROD connecting right and left. Without diving into the wiring diagrams, which are likely incomplete on the CD, it may be easier at this point to swap the seat backs. It would be for sure easier if the donor seat was the right color. i will spend a small amount of time looking at the wiring to see if the right motor could be run a bit The driver's seat in my 87 300D has had a twisted back since I got the car. Today's project is the seat. Q1: Are the passenger and driver's seat (above the mounting and slides) interchangeable as are the 123? I have a spare passenger seat that I can use for parts, but i'd have to change the seat covers. Q2: Someone in the past suggested there is a rod in the back tilt mechanism that might be off one tooth left to right that causes the back frame to twist. However on the 124 seat, I have not found this rod or how to change it. I am not seeing much helpful on the section 91 of the CD. One possibility is to remove the backs, of both seats and swap the covers. That is a lot of work, and if there is an easier way, I am listening. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] 124 seat
The drive cables wear out the socket in the gears. As the cables flex and the seat moves, the drive moves out of the socket in the gear, and it either spins or the drive skips a portion of a turn. This is a common issue for both 124 and 126 chassis power seats. By taking the slack out of the cable you can force the drive farther in to the gear and buy some time before total failure. Re: [MBZ] 124 seat
this seat does not have a flexible cable for the back adjustment. It has a drive motor connected to the geardrive on the left, and SOLID rod that goes to the right gear. There was no wear. There is no way to get access to the rod without disassembling the seat. How it got messed up does not matter. It was that way when I got the car. The drive cables wear out the socket in the gears. Re: [MBZ] W116, various vacuum problems
I think Jim's right. Instead of looking at my SD's plumbing, I should be looking for my 116.120 shop book for the instructions on setting up the throttle linkage and then the VCV setting. I do remember that you must adjust the linkage first, and there's a calibrated nylon bushing tool which Rusty sold for a dollar or two many years ago. Mitch. The VCV operates as a controllable leak, to simulate the manifold vacuum of a gasser. It gets its clean leak air through a black tube into the cabin. But the control valve does not seem to be holding vacuum on either of its ports so I'm guessing it's bad as well. It's a variable leak to begin with. Re: [MBZ] PB Control unit
I fiddled with that problem in my '83 300D for quite a while. A 20 amp fuse in place of the (16 amp fuse on #8 in the fuse holder?) would not blow but the wiring and fuse holder ran hot. I had resoldered the PB unit and tried different PB, blower speed, and temperature control units; all to no avail. I finally hooked the output from the blower control unit to the coil in a headlight relay and ran a hot wire from the 12v buss on the right fender well via an inline fuse to one side of the relay contacts and the 12v input to the blower to the other contact. [MBZ] OT wireless vid cam
I bought this wireless vid cam to set up as a monitor on the estate. I finally got it working on my local network, more or less. The instructions were horrible but some web surfing found semi-answers from which my vast intellect was able to muddle through to getting something other than the semi-lame windows-based interface it came with to work, by trial and error on an address that various things liked. (Using VLC on the mac, and in Firefox it actually spawns off a Quicktime window that will show the vid, sometimes, somewhat). I have not yet done the thing to get a static IP address for it (I did sign up to dyndns.com and it shows me my IP address 74.181.162.57 and a name for my acct that I picked, with a web address that is xxx.dyndns.org, but nothing that looks like an actual IP address?) to view over a remote browser. I will have to wrestle with that sometime soon. I think when I put in my network 192.168.0.n address it is only seeing it over the local wireless connection. Anyway, with a local network it should use as much bandwidth it needs to send a nice clear picture, right? I have one stream set for 1mbps (30frames/sec 640x480), one for 256kbps (30frames/sec 320x240), , and another one it doesn't say but it is only 10 frames/sec 640x480 so it is probably somewhere in the middle. Anyway, the stream shows considerable lag in the picture on the screen showing what it is seeing, and a lot of motion artifacts that sometimes just break up totally and the stream is hosed. The 256k stream seems the most stable but even it gets motion artifacts and breaks up. The camera is only about 15ft from the router and it is getting a strong signal. So what should I tweak here, or is that just sorta the way it is? I kinda expected full high-res living color, at least when connecting over my local network. I did have it cabled into the router and it seemed a bit more stable. --R ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] 124 strut boot: factory report part 2
My struts failed at about 200k, and the boots had been shredded for some time. Thanks for taking the initiative and getting an answer for us. Being designed to work without a boot explains why mine haven't failed yet - they've had torn, split boots since I got both cars, but don't seem to have suffered any ill effects so far. Re: [MBZ] Ed Brown's shop
What can I say? I'm a purist when it comes to cars, and while the hot rods are nice looking, they simply have no appeal. I would rather see (and drive) a vintage Benz that's all original than have something that's tuck-and-rolled with an airbrushed paint job I had a 54 Buick with the big electric razor grille similar to the one in his shop. What a beast that was! I recall dropping the radio out of the dash to repair it, and you practically needed a floor jack for it. Had a rear seat heater, too, and started by pushing the accelerator all the way to the floor to crank it. That car probably had 500 pounds of chrome on it. Paid a whopping $850 for it back in 1980. Bought it from the wife of the original owner, an actual barn find out by Terre Haute, IN. Sadly, I sold it a month later for $1800. I kick myself when I think of it. Max wrote: I wonder if one could find a seal with a smaller inner diameter, and then simply turn the shaft down to the proper diameter? Maybe. But that is not a normal seal, at least as far as seals that I have seen. It has a double-row of coil springs to supply tension to the rubber. One spring is inboard of the mounting frame, the other outboard.
