Bingo, VW TDIs are now on sale, and I'd prefer to get one original, not updated

I was wondering if they had stopped the sale of the TDIs at this point. It had

The only issue with the later 722 “electronic” transmissions is the plate
failure thing. It’s an easy and inexpensive enough repair if it hasn’t already
been done. There are some really easy updates you can do to them by changing
valve body springs, too.

A '98 and '99 should be turbo OM606 with inter-cooler. Great engine, but
beware electronic IP and electronic controlled transmission (during the low
quality years) and rust.
I want to get one of those engines to swap into a 124 or 126. Mechanical IP

there are so many on the market and they're cheap, relatively speaking.
There are four in the immediate area for sale on CL right now, and if you
search farther out its more like 15-20 of them. Most seem to be 1998 model
That they are trouble and expensive to maintain unlike the MB diesels of
old.
Of course, it may be nothing more than the fact that diesel is often
more expensive than gasoline and thus much of the appeal has gone.

One would think that with the number of these old MB diesels still

similar to the one for the 123.
