You may be too far north, altjhough the storm is so huge it's hard top
predict. NYC was supposed to get maybe 6:" but that was revised to
12-18". Pretty awesome and historic storm.

The price comes from the optional tow strap which is tucked under the
hood, pax side.

This is a "special option" for the 220D and apparently extremely
valuable.. ;))

Incidentally, 16" fell overnight with another 8-12" forecast for today,
maybe more. I'm heading outside shortly to measure the 24-hour local
accumulation (snow began at exactly 12:45 pm Friday). Send out the the St.

I think the merged truck company (Diamond-Reo Trucks) inspired the country band.

The rock band was inspired by the prewar light truck model called the Speed

[MBZ] Glazed salmon

2016-01-23 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes
I know grilling is out for most folks right now, but I have adapted
the Jack Daniels grilled salmon for stovetop, so you can make this
any time of the year. It is scrumptious. You can use fresh
unfiltered cider in season, or hard cider is in season all the time.
I use a 750 ml bottle and put about half in the skillet and drink the
rest with the salmon, unless I get too thirsty... I don't have or
use Jack Daniels or any other brand of whisky, so I adapted the
recipe to what I have on hand and what I like. In this adaptation,
the orange is stronger than in the JD version.

OUR ADAPTATION FOR HARD CIDER:
2 tsp garlic, minced
2 tablespoons Butter
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger (or store bought liquid grated
ginger or _ T powdered dry ginger

1 can orange juice concentrate (12 oz) Thawed.
_ cup hoisin sauce
12 oz rustic hard cider (no sulfites, unfiltered, all natural)
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 medium orange cut into thin slices, each slice cut in half
4 to 6 fillets (cut one whole fillet into 2" wide slices of fillet)

Cook orange slices in butter in a large skillet over medium heat
until softened, about 2 minutes. Flip and grill until the peels
separate easily. Separate out the orange peels if desired, Stir in
the remaining ingredients except the salmon and bring to a boil.
Simmer the sauce until slightly thickened.

FOR GRILLING: Place salmon on squares of aluminum foil.
Grill over medium-high heat with the cover down about 10 minutes.
Brush with the glaze and continue to cook 2 to 3 minutes longer or
until the fish is cooked through. Serve fish with additional warm
sauce spooned over each portion. Makes 4 to 6 servings.

IN SKILLET: Put salmon in the skillet, cover with sauce, and cover
the skillet. (lid optional) Simmer until salmon is done, covering
with sauce as desired. Serve salmon covered with sauce.

The sauce is wonderful and can be used as an orange sauce with many
other foods.

Get a Lodge cast iron grill pan for that fish and any other things.
Works great but generates copious vapors. My range hood when set
to "suck your shirt off" speed deals with it well.

I measured 18" at 1:30 when it was snowing steadily but not heavily. After
I came inside, abloizzard conditions adding another several inches - and
it's still snowing hard at 5:30PM. NYC was supposed to receive "only" 12",
but they've been upgraded to 20" +, about the same as the DC area. It also
appears that the storm will not spare Boston, as originally forecast. Not
sure what their totals will be.

On a lighter note, has anyone seen the cat-certo video?

In NC Piedmont (near Henderson NC) we were on the edge of the storm, which
has now past. Friday, we got some snow followed by sleet and freezing rain,
probably 2-3 inches of dense crystalline stuff. Earlier today we probably
got another 1-2 inches of actual snow. Roads are passible but dangerous and
none plowed out here in the sticks. Well above freezing forecast Sun and
Mon so I expect roads will clear without plowing. Brother in west NJ
reports 3 ft of light stuff and still falling. Sister in south NJ reports 2
ft of wet heavy stuff.

Re: [MBZ] snow reports

2016-01-23 Thread Jaime Kopchinski via Mercedes
We've got to be over 20" now west of Morristown, NJ... I haven't gone out
to measure yet. But its up to the bumper on my suburban, and the C and S
class in the driveway have disappeared.

I made two runs over the drive way with the kubota so far, and planning for
the last in the morning probably.

We're in the NWS's 24-30" zone, with 30-36 just south of here, so its
certainly not over yet!

Get a Lodge cast iron grill pan for that fish and any other things. Works great
but generates copious vapors. My range hood when set to "suck your shirt off"
speed deals with it well.

Target have them, like $20.

I know grilling is out for most folks right now, but I have adapted the Jack
Daniels grilled salmon for stovetop, so you can make this any time of the year.
It is scrumptious. You can use fresh unfiltered cider in season, or hard
cider is in season all the time. I use a 750 ml bottle and put about half in
the skillet and drink the rest with the salmon, unless I get too thirsty... I
don't have or use Jack Daniels or any other brand of whisky, so I adapted the
recipe to what I have on hand and what I like. In this adaptation, the orange
is stronger than in the JD version.

OUR ADAPTATION FOR HARD CIDER:
2 tsp garlic, minced
2 tablespoons Butter
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger (or store bought liquid grated ginger or _ T
powdered dry ginger
1 can orange juice concentrate (12 oz) Thawed.
_ cup hoisin sauce
12 oz rustic hard cider (no sulfites, unfiltered, all natural)
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 medium orange cut into thin slices, each slice cut in half
4 to 6 fillets (cut one whole fillet into 2" wide slices of fillet)

Cook orange slices in butter in a large skillet over medium heat until
softened, about 2 minutes. Flip and grill until the peels separate easily.
Separate out the orange peels if desired, Stir in the remaining ingredients
except the salmon and bring to a boil. Simmer the sauce until slightly
thickened.

FOR GRILLING: Place salmon on squares of aluminum foil.
Grill over medium-high heat with the cover down about 10 minutes.
Brush with the glaze and continue to cook 2 to 3 minutes longer or until the
fish is cooked through. Serve fish with additional warm sauce spooned over each
portion. Makes 4 to 6 servings.

IN SKILLET: Put salmon in the skillet, cover with sauce, and cover the
skillet. (lid optional) Simmer until salmon is done, covering with sauce as
desired. Serve salmon covered with sauce.

The sauce is wonderful and can be used as an orange sauce with many other foods.

[MBZ] Reo and Diamond T Was: DC Schnee

2016-01-23 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes
Right, REO was started by olds and REO was merged with Diamond T of
Lansing, MI to make Diamond Reo truck co.

The Bean company made pumps, street sweepers and fire trucks in
Lansing across the street from Diamond T. A lot of Diamond T
firetrucks made in the 40s and 50s had Bean pumps and firetruck
bodies on them. A good percentage of the Bean firetrucks had a
Diamond T chassis. The marriage was not mandatory, but it was
convenient for both companies.

More useless trivia: I have a REO hood plaque from an old hood I
found in a junkyard in the early 70s. I can't remember if it was
from a speedwagon model.

Which was preceded by REO which was founded by Ransom E. Olds after he
sold Oldsmobile. History off.
