[MBZ] Time to send for the boys in white coats?

2018-09-09 Thread clay monroe via Mercedes
So, I am thinking of another stupid project.

Allen is wearing the livery of the local state university, and will be the hero
vehicle in a new music video. There are many accolades for her from fans. Her
being a PITA with the ignition lock goofiness just irks me for now.

2016 is when Polei came to me and began this burning idiocy of having a fall
project to putz about with through the winter. That car was a turd, but a
great learning experience. She did get me to ND and back without any issue
though.

A few days ago, a co-worker ribbed me about driving such a silly car. He, of
course, attended the competing state institution. Which got me thinking… Why
not begin a project to represent said party school, Ag college?

Now the crux. It needs be excellent bottom feeder in price and complete enough
to be street-able with minimal effort.

I have found a few examples. Would I be remiss in passing by a w129 in need of
head gasket (which I have full set) and go with the w201 2.6 with fuel delivery
troubles? Neither is blessed with great paint, which is a non-issue.
Interiors are also not much of an issue (more trouble for a w129).

Roadster or sedan? Or, should I just be bundled up and shipped off to a padded
room?

Somebody with a R107 will hop on that. Not enough desire for the tired old
w126 cars for anybody to invest over much to keep one on the road. But, a
roadster will give great return on investment to make it functional.

Probably not much demand for that jig by now, I'm pretty sure there aren't very
many engines around that need it any more -- later ones have inserts from the
factory and there is no need to do the job twice.

I finished up the conductor plate on the 99 e300 and just used the no
name brand connector bushing that came with the kit.  I spent 30-45
minutes trying to get the locking ring to turn and pull the connector
into the connection.  No matter what I tried, I could not get it to
turn.  I happen to have a real MB part on hand and installed that

Wow.  And they look exactly the same.

Re: [MBZ] Screw it

2018-09-09 Thread clay monroe via Mercedes
Lock Jockey loves when people use graphite and WD40. Screws up the locks to no
end, They love Tri-Flow. I flushed the crud out of my tumblers with it.

Now that I am using a Stanley key, I see that it is the dang interlock/steering
pin that is not retracting. Key would spin with ease, but the locking pin
would not disengage so the ignition would turn the thing on. Now I have to do
PnP hunts for ignitions.

Bidet?
Can get the anus clean enough to leave a square of TP clean looking when you
dry with TP.
What do you do in France, blow dry your backside?
Bidets can also encourage bacteria to move forward to the genitals.

Re: [MBZ] Mercedes SL 450 Convertible, Diesel, Manual - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle automotive sale

2018-09-09 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
You should check that out, may be a "buy my failed project" deal but maybe
they'll get more reasonable on the price. How did they make the engine
fit? Custom oil pan? I think putting an OM617 into the R107 engine bay is
a challenge because the engine is too high, so custom work needed (engine
arms and mounts and oil pan) to get it to sit low enough so the hood closes.

Non-running car, with a major conversion, is not worth anything like that
price. If it were running / driving, maybe. I think I'd offer around
$1000 at the most, if they can demonstrate that the engine starts and the
car moves back and forth with no major drama. If the car doesn't move,
$500. Too much risk that anything could be wrong, from transmission /
driveshaft / rear end to suspension to HVAC to...

Many years ago, before even thinking about taking anything apart, we would
squirt Eveready Oil, and later WD-40, in the lock and exercise it many times.
We would do this several times and then try the key.
If no luck, we would squirt 3 in 1 oil in the lock, repeat the above procedure,
and try the key.
If still no luck, we would go to a good locksmith and get him to cut a new key
just a little bit "full" (wider). That usually worked.

1976 Mercedes SL450 diesel

condition: good
cylinders: 5 cylinders
drive: rwd
fuel: diesel
odometer: 10
title status: clean
transmission: manual
type: convertible

I have a 1976 Mercedes 450 SL, we converted installed 5cyl Mercedes diesel in
it. Drove it for while and was not satisfied with the auto transmission --
replaced it with four speed Mercedes transmission, installed clutch. The car is
completed -- but I have not completed the final minor things --- The brakes
need to be checked, since the car has been sitting for about a year. We do
start it once in a while for lubrication.
No cross members or structural changes was needed for the engine or trans swap.
The car has both tops, I have never taken off the hard top --- so the soft top
is still tucked in. the body is in good shape, the rust is not an issue. I
still have the gas engine with the transmission and the auto trans for the
diesel --- you can have them if wanted.
We are asking $5K for the car, it will make a great commuter car.
If you have questions contact Sam.
