2018-10-29 Thread clay monroe via Mercedes
I used to do the premium pump gas, but did not feel it did well in the w220 or
R107. When I switched to no ethenol “premium” the old M17 was much happier.
Without the alcohol, octane drops down to 88. Pump gas comes in 87 89 and 92
out west.

Re: [MBZ] gas v Diesel

2018-10-29 Thread Peter Frederick via Mercedes
My 280 SE 4.5 would audibly knock on midgrade and rattled distressingly on
regular. Premium only for sure, else you burn the spark plugs up, and risk
actual detonation and holes drilled in the pistons on the highway.

My TE is unhappy on midgrade. Toasted plugs, burns the electrodes off.

On cars with knock sensors, using lower grade fuel will result in retarded
timing to reduce knock, and that kills performance and milage. No burned
plugs, but at the expense of driveability.

Whhht?

Around PNW the price for #2 is on par with 87. The idiot legislators want us
to vote to reduce carbon by taxing our fuel another $0.52/gal. This makes the
dorks in electric cars feel superior, because the power plants are exempt from
being taxed for spewing carbons.

ANYWAY, I filled up the SDL (24 gallons) for $3.46/gal. That was a penny
cheaper than the petrol 87. Safeway fuel, not the expensive stuff from the
named petrol guys.

+1 Look for old chargers at auctions/garage sales. You want one with
no electronics at all. A 6/12V switch is ok. 6/8/10 amp. I have an
old Schauer 2 A charger (6/12) that I love. Yes, it takes a day or two
for a flat battery, but for all but emergency use, that is ok. I use
higher amp ones for emergency charging. Too many amps can damage the
battery.

I have a HF, electronic gizmo, and had to use it last week. It took a
while to get the nanny to realize the battery needed a charge, but after
a few tries, it worked.

Re: [MBZ] Who is in Charge?

2018-10-29 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
You need a dumb charger, I can't remember the brand that I have, I bought it
around 2003 or so, it'll shove electrons out no matter what, if theres a lot of
resistance those electrons won't go anywhere but its at least trying to put
them out...
I'm curious why you tried 2a though, after 3 hours thats 6ah which is
doodly-squat, you group 49 is something like 70ah so if it was totally dead
you'd have gotten less than 10% into it. At 10a you'd be closer to half...

I got home post game and tossed the sears charger (smart 2/10/50) at 2amp at

no impact on the battery, so I popped it to 50 amp start mode and gave it a
chance to put some electrons back in the box.  No avail.  No action at all from
a turn of the key.  And, the charger was pretty warm, it was getting dark, and
I was not interested in messing about with electrons in the rain.  The charger

No electrons in the box this morning and just a warm charger.  Multimeter found
2.8v in the battery and no voltage from the charger.  This forced me to unhook
the battery tender widget from the R107 and put the battery on that.  The
Diehard charger just moans and gets warm with no lights or needle action, nor
expulsion of electrons out the clamps.

I have the receipt for the battery, and will visit the vendor if she does not

for my gaggle of group 49 batteries.  All are fairly new (under 18 months).  I
am tempted to get a wheeled charger with ability to jump a cold winter battery

I too have been concerned about those "Known to cause cancer in the state of
California." As a warning sign they're pretty useless.
Reminds me of high school chemistry class where old Mr. Black would put
warnings on all the chemicals, the one with the most dire warnings was good old
H2O. He warned about drowning, heart attacks from shoveling snow, the danger of
electrolyte imbalance and I don't remember what else, dude had a very dry sense

The price below which it is cheaper to drive the diesel is:

  26 mpg
-- x $2.399 = $2.970
  21 mpg

So if diesel is less than $2.97 it is cheaper to drive the diesel.
Otherwise, driving the gas is cheaper.

[MBZ] gas v Diesel

2018-10-29 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
So gas is running about 2.39 for 87 now, diesel is around 3.09 to 3.13.
If the combined MPG is 26 for the 210 E300 turbo, and 21 for a E320 gas,
at what price point would it be cheaper to run the gas v the diesel
assuming you can run 87 in a 112 car?  My math comes up to this over a
400 mile trip:

E300 15.38 gallons @ $3.09 = $47.52

E320 19.04 gallons @ $2.39 = $45.50

So by this math, it appears right now it is actually a little cheaper to
drive the gas.  I just used the combined city/highway figure and this of
course would change if you burned Premium.

Remove manifold then you can get to everything.  Replace delivery valve
seals, and just replace all the clear plastic lines under there and it
will be good to go.

The proposition protects the state's drinking water sources from being

That sounds like all the o-rings on the fuel lines (about seven of them I
think) need to be replaced. IP stays in the car, just need to remove the
intake manifold (new gasket) to get to all of them. Rather a tedious job,
need to get the o-rings in advance.

THE IP, then see if wiggleing the stop lever will move the rack at all.   If
not, the rack may be stuck/rusted.   You will probably be able to see some
rust, if that is the problem.  If the lever doed not wiggle the rack at all,
try to see if you can move it a thousandth or 2 (or 5) manually, with a finger
or screwdriver, but DON"T force it!   Next step would be to hook a hose to the
vacuum shutoff and suck (or alternately; suck then blow)  on it, and see it
that wiggles the lever at all.  If not, remove the vacuum actuator, then see if
the rack advances when the footfeed is floored. One extremely odd thing that
happened is a broken governor that slammed the rack to the off position, but
that happened as soon as the car started.   I don't think that is the case
here, because the shutoff lever is stuck down, but the point is, sometimes
unheard of things happen.Max Dillon via Mercedes wrote:> Jack&  Tim;>> Gentle
pressure on the stop lever is fine, but I wouldn't get too aggressive.  Inside

the other end.___http://www.okiebenz.comTo

The counterfeits don't copy all the certification stamps?

Michael, get some parachute cord and make your own laces. True parachute cord
is far stronger and more durable than leather laces. More cachet too.

Is neetsfoot with beeswax sold in stores or is it a home brew?
I ended up buying a mid price Redwing steel toe boot called Irish Setter from
Okun Bros shoe store in Kalamazoo. They have been in business for 90 years. The
were $169.00.
I probably could have ordered them and saved 15.00 but going to the store,
seeing my options and trying them on was worth it. The only thing I did not
like about them were the laces. They were very thin and did not feel good in my
hands. I replaced them with the laces from my old boots. (Even though the
shorts are getting a bit worn.)
I’m hoping they will outlive me.
Has anyone successfully cut laces out of the leather of their old boots?

Here is a link to them if anyone is interested.
