[MBZ] OT - Ceiling Fan Revisited

2020-04-10 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Some of you were quite helpful in making suggestions as to how I could provide
power to a new ceiling fan in my bathroom through the use of wireless switches.
I wanted to follow up, as I believe I have a plan that should work out well
without major modifications and preserve the existing electrical setup.

I’ve got a small ventilation fan in the ceiling near where the ceiling fan will
be located. I’m going to run wire from the ceiling fan junction box to the
ventilation fan junction box. The ceiling fan is wireless and operates from a
remote control, so all I need to do is get power to it and nothing more.

I found a nice wireless switch arrangement I can get at Lowe’s that these guys
make:

https://levven.com/products/consumer-wireless-switch-controls/

This is what I expect to do:

I’ll replace the existing rocker switch in the junction box with the wireless
switch. I’ll make a direct connection for power to the ventilation fan,
bypassing the old rocker switch. I will disconnect the ventilation fan from the
circuit that fed it from the original rocker switch and run it off the wireless
switch controller. This will allow me to preserve the setup of a rocker switch
on the wall that controls the ventilation fan.

I’ll run wire from the junction box of the ventilation fan to the junction box
of the ceiling fan, giving me unswitched power for the ceiling fan, which is
controlled by a wireless remote.

The wireless switch isn’t the cheapest arrangement, with the switch and
controller probably costing a total of around $60 after taxes, but it was the
only one I could find with both the correct style of rocker switch for the wall
and a hard wired receiver. There were less expensive alternatives, but they
either had a weird rocker switch that would not have been compatible with the
others (it’s in a 3 gang box) or the receiver was a plug in arrangement such as
one might use to plug in a lamp or appliance to control it with the switch.

Thanks again for the suggestions. They gave me some good ideas to work off of
so I could pull this off without making it a major undertaking.

I first encountered sous vide done at a restaurant with a duck

using a simple setup involving a cheap slow-cooker with a highly
accurate temperature control device. It is especially good for
chicken breast, cooking perfectly and producing always tender
juicy results.

Using thickness, time, and temperature charts; meats can be
pasteurized so they can be refrigerated for several weeks and
reheated/seared later. Excellent for camping trips for instance.

Also really good for meats with lots of tough connective tissue.
Low and slow can be 24 hrs. or better for brisket or pork shoulder.
Something like a flatiron steak can be made tender but still rare.
You have to be careful not to make it too tender!

Yes, browning is necessary but can be done later with a quick sear
on a cast iron or steel pan, or with a torch.

Delve into food science a bit.

My FIL would go goose hunting every winter on the Eastern Shore and
bring some of them back.  His suggestion was to marinate them in red
wine and some other stuff for a coupla days then roast them like a
turkey but not too well done.  They were tough and did not have much
flavor, and yes it was like a cheap cut of beef, plus you had to be
careful not to crunch a tooth on the shot pellets. He thought it was
great, mostly I guess because he shot them and put them on the table,
everyone else just humored him.  Even the dog wouldn't eat it...

It might be good in a sausage though, never thought of that.  It was not
too gamey, maybe the marinating helped that, so the flavor wasn't bad.
It would be interesting to put one on the smoke for 8hr or so.

Remove the cat... insert iron bar, beat with hammer until you can see
through the cat from end to end... in it a honeycomb cat... re-install cat
and run it like you have a cat.
If your state has emissions inspection, it will not pass after being
"barred".. plan for that. Likely, if it is plugged now, it would not pass
either.

Wear a mask while pulverizing the toxic materials inside the cat... or you
die, slowly, and your children will born naked.

For pest control of geese around here they send out a crew to break the
eggs. I guess it works -- never taken part in it. I wonder if goose eggs
would make a good omelette? I suppose not if they have a live embryo

Roast goose was always our Christmas Dinner a kid (Danish mother).

Re: [MBZ] OT guns on sale too! now cooking your goose

2020-04-10 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I'll do a whole chicken or small turkey with some rosemary, garlic,
lemon, olive oil and some other spices like herb d'provence under the
skin to keep it moist, it comes out very juicy and tender, but the geese
have little fat so you would have to take that into consideration.
Maybe wrap it in butcher paper for most of the time then open it to the
smoke for an hour or two

Look at Bolian's vid in that article, it showed what looked like a 300D

I didn't pause it) and he mentioned the diesel record.  A 300SD would be
a great ride to do it in.  Probably top out at maybe 115 or 120 and
20mpg but it would be a nice solid ride.

Yeah, somebody, I think it was Bolian with his CLS55, was bragging

Not getting that at triple digit speeds with a V12.

Somebody was planning on going for a diesel record in the event that
got canceled this month. Imagine a OM642 or OM629 at 15-20mpg. I
wonder what car they were going to use. Or maybe a giant Syclone
looking pickup with a Cummins and enough diesel on board to do the
whole trip.

Re: [MBZ] OT guns on sale too!

2020-04-10 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
A few weeks ago they had a supply at the co-op. The vegan, pro-earth, granola
crowd won't use Charmin. The unbleached, recycled fiber stuff is all gone
though. Maybe they're using leaves?
Buddy Ben may have gotten us a gig shooting geese at a dairy farm. Apparently
they can get a pest removal permit. I understand that years ago people used
goose necks to wipe with. Probably hard on the plumbing...

Try the dollar stores. I've found they generally have it. It'll be some
brand you never heard of but better than nothing.

Best I can figure is that the people who normally shop there don't
generally have enough money to buy more than they really need. And the
people with income to support hoarding TP at ridiculous levels don't
normally shop at dollar stores so it doesn't occur to them to go there.

Oh, that's the end of the TP, better buy a couple more next time there's
a good sale.
Then, within a week, empty shelves.
That pic I sent, showing 6 twelve packs of store brand imitations of my
preferred xtra strong Charmin?
Yep, one of those six went home with me at full price.

So I'm set for 2-3 months now.
Next problem is distilled water.
Back in January I bought enough to feed the CPAP humidifier through tax
season. Tonight I'm opening the last gallon. Haven't seen any distilled
water on the store shelves in about 3 weeks.
Mitch.

Yeah, somebody, I think it was Bolian with his CLS55, was bragging about
getting fuel economy in the high 13s.

Not getting that at triple digit speeds with a V12.

Somebody was planning on going for a diesel record in the event that got
canceled this month. Imagine a OM642 or OM629 at 15-20mpg. I wonder what
car they were going to use. Or maybe a giant Syclone looking pickup with
a Cummins and enough diesel on board to do the whole trip.
