Re: [MBZ] YAY ME X2!!!

2021-12-18 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
I put in a new air pump yesterday but it did not rise up last evening after I
did that. It was pressurizing when I jumped the relay to run it but the system
would not rise. Figured it might be something I knocked loose or forgot to
connect back, like a solenoid connector in the distribution block.

Interesting, I opened the trunk to get something and it set off the SOS call
function. After that calmed down from its screaming fit several times (I have
no idea what sets it off, the remote had no effect even though it was working
to work the door locks). I started the car, heard the pump running and felt it
start to rise. Got out and watched it rise and heard the pump running. It was
in “high” mode on the console switch for some reason unclear. I hit it to
release it and it dropped down an inch or so. Seemed to be fine. Drove it and
all was good. No idea what the deal was but it works.

Maybe the nanny just needed some time.

It seems to have made a number of annual round trips to NY to rack up that
mileage. Maybe it got all the services to keep it in good fettle. I know the
M117 in Frosch (73SL) was well behaved once it got the fuel issues dealt with
and was actually driven. The transmission was also in very good condition once
the shift bushings were replaced. Sold her this past June with 215k on the
clock.

The used car market is nuts. Used trucks are even worse. Used cars are
appreciating. That is nuts. Turds that shouldn't bring $1k are bringing $2,500
all day. Used Mercedes that need work or maybe Beemers are the exception,
because most mechanics are scared of them, and most owners know repairs are an
expensive proposition.

2021-12-18 Thread mitch--- via Mercedes

Had to jump the ML350.
Funny, it was working fine the last time I moved it, 2-3 weeks ago.
It died while I was taking care of the jumper cables.
Charged it for a half hour, fired it up, no trouble lights but dome lamp
seemed dim and when I tried to turn the seat heat on it said not enough
power.

That was Thursday.
After sitting on the charger a couple days, I fire it up and still no
charge.
Today I hook up to it, clear some low voltage codes, and while browsing
through the scanner menus the dome light blinks and seems brighter.

I turn on the seat heat and now it works.

So apparently I had to let it run for a while to get it to turn the
alternator back on.
I take back the nasty things I was thinking about the brand new Remy
alternator with 1000 miles on it.

[MBZ] Am I Nutz?

2021-12-18 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
So I see this 2002 SLK320 listed locally. Has high miles (195k) but looks
solid, despite being a stripper (no options.) I reach out to the seller and
question him a bit, as other listings for similar cars with much lower miles
are easily $1,000 less than what he’s asking. I ran a search on the VIN and it
is a car that spent 15 of the last 20 years in MI and has no indication of
service records.

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/665226508179249/

He claims he’s got people coming to look at it tomorrow. I will be interested
to see if it sells.

Is this used car market simply crazy, or am I being unrealistic?

That triplet in the W163 indicates the ABS pump is going bad. It will be
interesting to see what codes you get out of DAS when you hook it up next.

If it’s completely slammed, it’s likely not a strut but a bad pump or clogged
up valve block, both fairly common issues for this system. It’s when you see
just one end of the car down that a strut is more likely to be the issue.

Air suspension isn’t scary once you understand how it’s supposed to work. It’s
actually pretty simple. Just like vacuum central locking.

And OBTW I believe the 4matic has a 722.6 trans so that is a plus. This would
be an awesome car and black/black is the best!

No not really, no reason too.

I’d snatch that up right quick for $1k, maybe go $1200. I doubt it’s the bags
or struts, probably the pump or distribution block or relay, maybe some bad
sensors or nanny. In any case a scanner would point you in the right direction.
I’d go there with a scanner, find all the codes in the suspension then squawk
about how bad it all is….

Buy it for less then jumper the relay to get the pump going and watch the
pressure in the system. If it doesn’t get pressure then it’s likely the pump
$140. Drag it home then and start going through it. If it does need struts/bags
you could still come out ahead on a flip. And they are actually pretty easy to
change too.

Seriously you should get that, beat the guy down then haul it home. I can share
my knowledge and get you the info you need. The work is not hard as long as you
have a jack and stands, stuff is not hard to get at.

Says the guy who’s fixing to go out and try to get a E500 unslammed…. I think
I’m close!

That is nice. Probably an issue with the idle air valve or part of the control
and idle is way too high.

[MBZ] Some crunch -- 2009 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 550 4MATIC Sedan 4D, $8, 500

2021-12-18 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes

Posted this yesterday but got more details.

I think I am going to look at this tomorrow and visit my daughter.
Fairly well-specced 040 black though the tan leather is not as much to
my liking.  Seller

Siroj Sidikovis likely a Ukrainian, there are bunch of them up there in
the car bidness.  He says it looks like radiator and radiator support
were crunched as well as the headlight and bumper cover you can see.
Maybe $1.5k in parts new or cheaper from a salvage?  Other than that it
looks OK, does not appear any sheet metal damage.  Might be drivable
although he says it should be trailered, wasn't sure if it was leaking.

Probably needs mainfold seals and throttle body boot, it's impossible to set
the idle mix with those leaking. Also prone to bad wires on the temp sensor
(the issue with my TE at the moment, need to fix that).

Not many tech left who know these any more.

Yeah, don’t sweat SBC. You can work on it just like any other braking system,
you just have to disable it by unplugging the controller first. And it’s
warranted by MBUSA for 25 years.
