I never had any trouble starting a 1.5T AC with a 11hp pull-cord
generator.

Has a 5-2-1 hard start kit.
When I first put it in, I was in no condition to run a new 240 line
through the garage ceiling so I used the 15A fast blow circuit that I
had for a mini split. 7A running, 42A locked rotor, no apparent problems
running on a 15A fast breaker instead of the specified 20A HACR breaker.

Eh. Maybe not. 5 tons of AC is 17.52 kw.
You need a smaller house.
Or an enormous gen set.

17.5kW would run us. Most days it would run two of us. It's not enough for
heat,
but then, nothing would be. (50kW service, all-electric house.) It'd run
everything
but the furnace, simultaneously I think. We rely on wood heat when the power is
out, and we have three stoves. Running two, one up and one down, heats the
house
well. Usually we only run one, and stay upstairs.

We either run a rope-pull 5.5kW, or Big Bertha (45kW, but 26kW in zig-zag)
cabled
through a 50A breaker, which is around 11kW, when we need more.

Don't they recommend 10-12kW backup for most houses? 17.5 sounds great.

[MBZ] First CL500 mpg check

2022-07-28 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
Filled up today after the first fill up the other day, 19mpg. This is pretty
good. I figured it would be a lot worse. Mostly driving in town and rural
roads. Probably be a bit better on the highway

2022-07-28 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
After some conversation with our resident experts I decided not to look at it.
Sent the seller a note explaining issues, told her to let me know if it doesn’t
sell.

Try to have a good look at the floors and the underside of the car. It
appears to have a couple of flat tires and that probably means it has
been sitting there for a while.  Dampness under the car can ruin it in
short order. A friend went to look at a nice looking older MB that had
been sitting in a garage with a dirt floor for years. The bottom was
totally rusted.

I’m thinking this is an old dead guy’s car. It’s probably a project that has
been sitting for some time and the widder is finally parting with it. Or maybe
it was a driver, ran when parked? A “barn find.” Could be interesting. The
new pics she added show it is in fairly decent condition (best I can tell) and
looks complete.

I shall report tomorrow.
