[MBZ] OT - Flatbed Scanner

2023-12-17 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Not sure if this is something anyone would be interested in, but…

I have an Epson 4990 flatbed scanner. This was a pretty high-end scanner for
its time, used by me mainly to create archives of my medium format negatives
and slides using holders for the film stock. It uses USB or FireWire for
communication.

I rarely, if ever, use it anymore. If anyone here might be interested, you can
have it for the cost of shipping. I think I might even have the original box
for it, too, I’ve got to look in my storage. It is heavy, but it was a
professional grade scanner, so it’s pretty beefy. You can have the film
holders, too. I believe I have 35mm versions as well.

Re: [MBZ] Quite a storm today

2023-12-17 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
Fort Lauderdale has been hit with unusual deluges this year, more or less
site specific to that city. Over a foot at times. Right now Maryland/DC
is getting slammed, with 2.5-3" predicted. Exactly a week ago a similar
storm dumped 1.5" in my backyard rain gauge.

It was definitely rowdier on the Atlantic side of the peninsula, at least from
what I recall of yesterday’s radar.

I had a neighbor who used to be a deckhand and later a tugboat master in Tampa
Bay. He talked about how a loaded freighter or cruise ship could push you
around like a toy in a bathtub if things got rowdy. Some of the smaller ships
can come in and use their bow and stern thrusters, but even they can’t handle
it when the winds kick up.

I will say lots of cruise ships didn’t get to dock at their ports and seas were

2023-12-17 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
They ginned this one up like it was going to be a Big Deal, but other than a
lot of wind from the south, I don’t think it’s been that bad. Having said that,
I did see several trees down and a lot of stuff dropped out of them like you
would see after a hurricane or strong thunderstorm while running errands this
morning, so maybe it was pretty rowdy. Must have been so overnight as I didn’t
see anything during the day.

It’s the dry season here so any rain is a big help.

[MBZ] Quite a storm today

2023-12-17 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
We have been getting quite a storm today. Like a tropical storm and raining
quite hard. Started late last night. Lots of thunder earlier. I went on a
little ramble while the rain slacked off checking out the flooding and effects
of this storm. It’s fairly warm so not unpleasant. The road to Seabrook was
closed earlier at high tide at the Haulover (between 2 creeks and the marsh)
and there’s still maybe 6” over the road by the marina. Some people are braving
it but still blasting through like morons. Lots of other moronic behavior
related to driving through high water earlier it appears. “I have FOUR WHEEL
DRIVE!!!” Saw 4 or 5 high-end SUVs (Audi BMW Lexi no Benzes) on flatbed
haulers getting dragged to the shop and 2 one with water draining out of the
front under pan. I guess they didn’t have high enough clearance to blast
through a foot of water.

All those electronics in there get Very Unhappy as I guess they’ll find out
soon enough. And I doubt if insurance or warranty will be prone to pay for
stupidity like that.

Rain started fairly hard again. I forgot to look at my rain gauge but my cousin
in Savannah earlier said they had 5” so far.

The very high tide had the back yard flooded pretty good earlier. A buddy down
the road had about a foot of water over his dock on the creek.

Yes, the addition of the candelabra on the front fenders I found to be quite
tasteful, along the lines of “Grey Poupon” sort of stuff.
