Looks pretty solid and the price is right. Lots of time and effort to 
refresh it. And I can’t be running down to Phoenix all the time to 
help you, either (although it *would* be fun!) at least not for a few

[MBZ] 87 300D tach & cluster lights

The tach is squirrelly in the 87 300D.  It has been constantly jumping 
up to about true rpm then down somewhere below that, sometimes to 0 with 
no pattern.  I tried a couple years ago to remove and tighten the dash 
ground, with no difference.  I know the EDS is bad.   I know the tach 
signal goes through the EDS, then to the tach, so it is possible the EDS 
is causing the problem.   On the 123/OM617, the fault is usually the 
ground, but this seems to be something different.  Anyone got 
suggestions what to look for or how to cure this?


Also most of the dash light bubs are burned out.  Is there a LED 
solution to better the OE type light bubs?

Sounds reasonable.   If that does not work right, the lift can go down 
and back up again.   Or you can use a ladder ad go in the car while it 
is up.

One of the next projects with the lift will be replacing the shocks on 
the 99 E300.  Never done it with a lift and looking for whatever 
procedure you guys with lifts use.  Do you remove the top nuts while 
its on the ground, then lift, replace shocks, set it back on the 
ground and reinstall top nuts?

As mentioned the red one has some rust, but not anything that a lot of 
other 115s have. My thought is it’s worth fixing. To really do it 
right would probably be to strip it down to the metal though. Looks 
like some paint got chipped and started rusting under that trim price. 
Or could be a repaint and that area was not done that well.

That's good.   As a 50 year owner of MB Diesels, I can relate...   Slowly


Of all the thousands of cars that passed my 200D, most of them have been 
crushed and made into various Japanese cars several times, then made 
into a Korean or chinee car.   My 200D lives on.  And my son's 200D 
lives on also. (As do the two 240Ds)


In MBCA, new members would often ask where they should put their club 
decal/sticker.   My standard answer:  On a Diesel, the driver side 
corner of the rear window, so those passing you can see it.  On a 
vergasser, the passenger side corner of the rear window, so those you 
pass can see it.


The great thing was they never quite knew if it was a joke, or 
serious.   It is BOTH!

I joined Kathy Kenels's MBCA list in the mid 90s, but it had little 
content about W110s, and little expertise.  I Joined Alex Gabbard's 
veteran's list in 95 or 96.   Great people there. Tried the ritter 
easley(hitler) list about the same time.   Nothing there but 124/126 
stuff, so I quit.   When Alex gave up being listmom, I was about to 
offer to, when Dickarde offered, and he already had equip and running 
lists.  From dickarde's MBZ.org I was on Diesel and Veterans lists.   
The veterans morphed into 108 list, and was of no use to me. By then I 
had the 81 240D since about 1994 or 5.    The dickarde DIesel list and 
the others all melted down when Dickarde's server melted down.   
Dickarde was too busy tok'in' weed to be bothered to get a server up and 
running so the lists died for a couple months.  Kaleb scavenged the 
dickarde list emails he had and invited us onto his new Mercedes list.   
Was there until I was booted for speaking truth. Okietalk is a great 
place to be!


My 200D turned 56 in August.  I've had it 49 years.
Lost count of all the running and junker MBs I've owned.
I think I was up to 16 or so by 1979.

All Diesels other than the 2 380SLs #1 daughter insisted on, and the 
E320 (124) I got from Kleb for her to drive in the winter.  Then there 
was the 230TE and the 300TE.. and a junker 190c.   So I guess I have had 
6 vergassers.   Happy when each one went down the road. (Except the 
190c, it was only intended to be parts for 190Dc s and 200D.  I WAS 
happy when I got the M120 engine from it sold!)

Not all that different than that 380SL I bought some years ago. Most 
fun I ever
had, driving a _cheap_ convertible. This must be some sort of gray 
market edition,
as it's really a 280SL. Has manual 2-zone HVAC, which has got to be 
worth sumpin.
Are those Euro bumpers? Battery up front. Two new seat covers and 
massive cleaning,
and then it's only the paint. And, any potential rust. Too bad it's 
not a stickshift!
The NLA seat cosmetic hardware seems to be there. No cruise control. 
It's an odd

duck, that's for sure.

Bull crap:  "My RWD diesels (W116 and W123) are useless in the snow."
They were only incompetent in schnee because they had bad tires on. The 
123 or 126 does not choose the tires it is on.


As Jim says, tires and weight in the right places are key, as with any 
vehicle.


My 123 went everywhere in the schnee (Farstone schnee tars)
My first SDL, when I put used Blizzaks on all 4 corners was like driving 
on dry pavement, until the schnee gets so deep the body floats, causing 
the tires to lose contact with the road.   Uphill, down it did not matter.

Tires!  The most important insurance policy for your vehicle!

Daughter's 124 vergasser on Blizzaks was also unstoppable in schnee.

My W115 was great in the snow. Proper snow tires, and maybe
a little bit of trunk weight, are the keys. For the hills, you also need
some brass balls sometimes. Momentum going up the hills is a
requirement.

Vast majority of hard cider/ sparkling cider and what is sold as grape 
"champagne" is wine carbonated like soda water.  (Artificial carbonation 
= large bubbles))


Real cider (As the English call it) is naturally carbonated in the 
champagne process, (A second fermentation in the bottle) (Natural 
carbonation = tiny bubbles, as in Don Ho)


My apple champagne is apple wine subjected to the champagne process. 
(second fermentation in the bottle)  With live yeast.  No sulfites added 
to kill the yeast.   It has about 15 atm pressure in the bottle.  That 
means VERY tiny bubbles.   No commercial bubbly has pressure that 
high.   It has to be chilled to 22-25ºF before opening to tame it enough 
so that it does not blow to the ceiling when uncapped.


I was fortunate enough to get a private tour of the facility that makes 
one of the largest/oldest brands of hard cider.   They make wine from 
chinee apple juice concentrate (no extra charge for formaldehyde) and 
water.  Then they run it through a carbonator and bottle it like pop. Yuk!

Experts suspected thatRobert Mueller 
was appointed as 
special counsel, not to investigate any wrongdoing on the part of 
President Trump’s team…but to simply cover up the illegal coup attempt 
carried out by the Obama administration

Now, Matt Whitaker has confirmed that suspicion during an 
interviewconducted by Jan Jekielek of Epoch Times 
.

TheMueller 
investigation was 
used by corrupt interests within the special counsel’s office to 
threaten any/all executive branch and congressional officials with 
“obstruction of justice” charges if they revealed any exculpatory or 
counter-narrative information during the Mueller probe.


Whitaker describes this as the “obstruction of justice trap.”

Essentially, this approach confirms the second-prong purpose of the 
Mueller investigation itself. First, use the special counsel in 2017, 
2018 and into the beginning of 2019, as a shield (hide information); and 
secondly a weapon (threats) against any entity who would reveal the 
background intelligence that undercut the Trump-Russia collusion narrative.


We know President Trump was threatened by Rod Rosenstein not to 
declassify any information in September of 2018 or the Mueller 
investigation would use that act as evidence of obstruction. Whitaker 
confirms that same approach was applied toward any executive branch 
officer who would reveal or release information to congress during the 
tenure of the special counsel; even within the DOJ and including the 
attorney general.


This is how the Mueller probe was weaponized to mislead the American people.

While the Mueller team continued the same corrupt process started in 
2016; and essentially transferred the same objectives as the DOJ/FBI 
team under Crossfire Hurricane; that same investigative unit was used to 
keep information from surfacing in ’17, ’18 and ’19 that would expose 
the corrupt nature of the investigation itself.


Documents could not be released without Mueller approval; interviews 
with key FBI/DOJ officials couldnot be conducted without Mueller team 
approval; 
information 
could not be declassified without Mueller team approval, etc.


Any agency or individual that attempted to release any information was 
subject to the threat of indictment by thesame corrupt prosecutors 
leading the investigation 
. 
It’s a self-fulfilling safety mechanism.  Even DOJ officials like Matt 
Whitaker were under threat. Whitaker calls it the “Obstruction of 
Justice Trap”.


With that in mind this is a very serious flaw in the authority of the 
special counsel statute that needs to be addressed by congress. Who can 
watch the watchers, when the watchers were specifically selected because 
they would knowingly contribute to the corruption.

with its high mortality. An outpatient treatment that prevents
hospitalization is desperately needed. Two candidate medications have been
widely discussed: remdesivir, and hydroxychloroquine+azithromycin.
Remdesivir has shown mild effectiveness in hospitalized inpatients, but no
trials have been registered in outpatients.



Hydroxychloroquine+azithromycin has been widely misrepresented in both
clinical reports and public media, and outpatient trials results are not
expected until September. *Early outpatient illness is very different than
later hospitalized florid disease and the treatments differ*. Evidence
about use of hydroxychloroquine alone, or of
hydroxychloroquine+azithromycin in inpatients, is irrelevant concerning
efficacy of the pair in early high-risk outpatient disease.



*Five studies, including two controlled clinical trials, have demonstrated
significant major outpatient treatment efficacy*.
Hydroxychloroquine+azithromycin has been used as standard-of-care in more
than 300,000 older adults with multicomorbidities, with estimated
proportion diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmias attributable to the
medications 47/100,000 users, of which estimated mortality is 9/100,000
users, compared to the 10,000 Americans now dying each week. *These
medications need to be widely available and promoted immediately for

It has been very frustrating to watch the D's (mostly IMO) turn the 
crisis into a political maneuver to improve their agenda, especially 
when we see the things they choose as being essential Vs those they 
deem non-essential.   For instance, abortion clinics are essential 
while hip and knee replacements are non-essential. (that decision must 
have been made by someone never needed a new knee or hip).
Liquor Stores were declared early on to be essential.  They used some 
kind of Bizzaro logic to come up with the declarations they did.


Now they want to postpone the full opening of some states until a 
vaccine is discovered.  But there may never be a vaccine!  I know we 
are capable of many things and a Vaccines would msolve any problems 
but it's just not realistic

accelerate vaccine development. All that hurry and waste just to get a

I was at Lowes this evening because I wanted to purchase some motion 
sensing lights for beside the garage and porch light.  I also needed 
to get some bulbs.  It has been many years since we have used regular 
old fashioned bulbs that cost a buck for a 4 pack.  We usually get a 
big box of those CFL bulbs fairly cheap. Lowes only had a couple of 
choices of these and they were expensive.  It seems most of the bulbs 
now offered are LED.  They are not exactly cheap but were cheaper than 
the CFL bulbs they had.  I got the cheapest per bulb I could find and 
the highest I found were 60W equivalent.  I did find some 75W but they 
were much more expensive and only in a 2 or 4 pack IIRC.  So are guess 
LED is what everything is going to? How long are these things supposed 
to last?  I ended up spending way more than I wanted to between the 
fixtures and the various bulbs we needed for the house.

Tesla and crash scenes.
Several months ago, I read a piece published by some fire fighter / first
res ponder association.
The focus of the article was how first responders must not use normal
response to remove injured persons from an electric vehicle crash scene,
due to the high risk of electrical fire, toxic smoke and fumes, and
electrical shock to emergency persons.
Further, the use of water to put down vehicle fire, post crash, was
cautioned against... ie, EV response would be "Wait for the special truck
equipped to handle EV fire and safety, before trying to extricate the
injured passengers...
S... my take on such cars would be.. "Increased Risk" while you bleed
out from a bloody nose and a torn fingernail, waiting for the "special
truck" to cut the exit path to haul you out..
while the battery bank is shorting out and filling the car with toxic
materials.

Certainly questions I would want answered before I bought a Tesla, or
another EV... I see several crashes every week in the city of some 1.8
million bad drivers.

From a woman who operates a hair salon. Reopened for 3 days: " I’m 
trying to be so good with this face mask thing to protect my clients. I 
am pretty sure it effects my hearing, clogs my brain and makes me 
exhausted. By Saturday it will make me drink!"



I have no doubt that people in the medical industry get used to wearing 
surgical masks, but for people who don't wear them every day, there is 
noticeable hypoxia, and I'd not be surprised if co2 levels were elevated 
too. 🍷🍷😷

masks.   Most people are wearing home made is lam coverings.   THe

Masks could be helpful. The evidence is not great as Max alludes, but they
definitely do not increase transmission and look increasingly like they
provide benefit in preventing transmission. There are no harmful effects;

got the scrub top). Medical types prefer to keep their wits about them.
Operating, making snappy decisions, flirting with the scrub nurse (that’s
for the TV docs)- it requires those masked people to be firing on all
cylinders. If wearing a mask led to re-inhalation of one’s own carbon
dioxide (called “hypercapnia”) and the resultant sleepiness and trouble
thinking as mask detractors claim, we’d all be wandering around maimed 
from
zombified surgeons. And there would be way fewer baby showers for the 
TV OR

staff.

More specifically, the porous nature of the material used for both
medical-grade masks and cloth masks fully permits normal respiration. If
you can inhale through it, you can exhale through it. There is no trapping
and recirculating of air (otherwise it would blow up like a balloon when
you breathe out).

Disabilities Act and stating the bearer does not need to comply with
masking, which anyone can print.

Firstly, COPD patients are extremely vulnerable to viral infections and
could use the extra protection masking affords. Many people with mild,
well-controlled COPD can tolerate a mask just fine, since the added
resistance is minimal, but people with more severe disease cannot.

Ever been on a flight with someone’s pet in a fake service dog vest? How
did lying work out? Don’t be an emotional support peacock.

FACEMASKS: THEY’RE ABOUT YOUR FACE, BUT NOT AN ABOUT-FACE

There is confusion about why initially masks were NOT recommended, but now
they are. In early March the world experienced a catastrophic shortage in
Personal Protective Equipment, most of which was made in China. Frontline
health care workers were barebacking it, despite caring for patients
suffering from a lethal infectious disease. Many became infected, and some
died. Hospitals rationed equipment like it was the elixir of life. We came
up with clever ways to reuse and sterilize masks. We all remembered fondly
the days when we just *threw the extra gloves which come out of the 
box all

glommed together away* like we were glove billionaires or something.

Against that backdrop the public was advised not to wear masks. That was
not because masks weren’t safe, effective, or a great idea. It was because
masks were RATIONED where they were needed most.

Now, things have opened up- medical masks are available again. Cloth face
coverings, which are insufficient for frontline health care work around
massive doses of virus, have been proven effective for the general public.
Masking is now strongly recommended. Nothing about the virus or our
understanding of it has changed.

YOUR MASK IS NOT A VIRUS CLUB MED

Some people have argued that breathing into your mask sprays it chock full
o’virus, and then you’ll reinfect yourself constantly, like some kind of
COVID Dutch oven. Firstly- anything that comes out of you was already in
you, and can’t make you sicker. It’s sort of like how eating your own arm
can’t make you gain weight. And also remember, coronaviruses can’t live
outside their host cell long. A trip outside into your mask is not a
relaxing day at the spa, it’s an event which results in likely viral
denaturing and degradation.

That being said, you should launder your cloth mask in hot water
frequently. And don’t handle anyone else’s, because then you could get
their virus, and don’t let them handle yours.

JUST LIKE LOADING THE DISHWASHER, THERE’S ONE RIGHT WAY TO WEAR A MASK

And that way is: over your mouth and nose. Not folded up on your chin. The
virus doesn’t burrow into your beard, so no need to protect it. That’s the
equivalent of frisbee-ing in the plates

I’ve been advocating to myself and my family and friends for months to 
wear masks and gloves despite the early advice against it and I’ve 
been taking extraordinary measures even as early as the beginning of 
February which included sanitizing the exterior door handles of my 
home. Our deified Fauci suggested on February 29th, that we didn’t 
need to change any of our behaviors at the time. Typical academic with 
no street smarts living with his head up his ass.

Icelandic actor and strongman Hafthor Bjornsson set a world record for 
the deadlift on Saturday when he lifted 1,104 lb (501 kg) at Thor’s 
Power Gym in Iceland.


Bjornsson, best known for his portrayal of Ser Gregor “The Mountain” 
Clegane on Game of Thrones, broke the record previously held by Briton 
Eddie Hall who in 2016 became the first man to lift 500kg.


The 31-year-old Bjornsson, 31, completed the lift as the barbell bent 
and strained under the weights. He held the lift for two seconds 
before letting go and roaring in delight.


“I believe today I could’ve done more, but what’s the point?” 
Bjornsson said. “I’m happy with this. My family and friends, they were 
happy with this, and I’ve decided to call it.”


Bjornsson, who is 6ft 9in and weighs 452 lb (205 kg), won the World’s

I opened my last 12pack right before this hit.
Oh, that's the end of the TP, better buy a couple more next time 
there's a good sale.

Then, within a week, empty shelves.
That pic I sent, showing 6 twelve packs of store brand imitations of 
my preferred xtra strong Charmin?

Yep, one of those six went home with me at full price.

So I'm set for 2-3 months now.
Next problem is distilled water.
Back in January I bought enough to feed the CPAP humidifier through 
tax season. Tonight I'm opening the last gallon. Haven't seen any 
distilled water on the store shelves in about 3 weeks.

The reason there is a "shortage" is because every medico has figgered 
out it works, and they are prescribing it for themselves, family and 
staff.   That leaves none for you and I, but on the other hand, I don't 
really begrudge the medicos a chance to stay well while working around 
the virus.   Their familywell, I think I have just as much right to 
have the stuff as they do.

First, there is NO clinical evidence this stuff does anything against 
any virus -- malaria is a PROTZOAN spread by mosquitos.


Second, chloroquinone and it's derivatives have very severe and 
usually permanent side effect at effective doses and very severe side 
effects at double the effective dose. Lethal doses is less than triple 
the effective dose.


Third, there is a limited supply and there are actual real uses for 
it, sometimes life-saving ones. I don't see much social benefit to 
depriving people of necessary medication in return for a large wave of 
deafness and blindness amongst the gullible, to say nothing of excess 
deaths due to medication poisoning.


This isn't aspirin, and I personally would be somewhat astonished if 
there was any antiviral effect at all. Even if there is, this is a 
classic case of trying to kill a fly with a sledgehammer, the 
"collateral" damage is far worse than the disease.

 I heard last friday that a recent USAF retiree friend, who is working
 at the sporting goods big box store none of us buy from in Houston.  
 He said he had sold 18 registered arms that day.   Saturday and Sunday
 were sales of 35each day.   I've not heard since then but I gather
 sales are still many times higher than normal.   I needed some caps
 and stopped in the local store Wed, and it was like a zoo, and the
 rack was getting bare.   See article below:  It says that in bernie's
 home state sales are 40 times normal!    Think anyone there is scared
 of him?


 Chinese Virus a Better Gun Salesman than Barack Obama


Well, we’ve finally found a salesman that topped Barack Obama’s ability 
to drive Americans to their local gun shops: The Chinese Wuhan 
Coronavirus. Even gun-hating liberals are now lining up to purchase 
their first-ever gun in many places.


Some are hilariously discovering that you cannot, in fact, buy a gun 
online. “You mean… Chuck Schumer…/lied to me?!/” Here’s a roundup of the 
incredible demand that Americans suddenly have for firearms. And as 
you’ll see from the video below, even Californians are waiting in long 
lines at the gun shop!


First, gun sales have now officially doubled year-to-year. Last Monday, 
the FBI reported that background checks on gun purchases have spiked by 
300%. That’s creating a backlog of NICS investigations.


In terms of gun buyers, if you’ve never had a problem with a background 
check, you should be good to go if you try to purchase a firearm right 
now. But… if a ‘hold’ is triggered, the FBI normally takes up to three 
days to investigate and determine whether that purchaser is authorized 
to buy a gun or not. The FBI now says that “three days” has been 
stretched out to “we’ll get back to you sometime in the future.”


While you can’t buy firearms online, you can purchase ammunition over 
the internet in many states. Ammo.com has released its statistics from 
the past week, and it’s pretty impressive. The site ships ammo to 47 
states, excluding Alaska, Hawaii, Massachusetts and California. They 
describe demand as “staggering” – like nothing they’ve ever seen previously.


Ammunition sales in Vermont and Delaware are up 4,000%. That’s not a 
typo. Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi sales have increased between 
1,001 and 2,000%. Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Nebraska and Maine are 
up 501 to 1,000%. Most other states are in the 101 to 500% increase range.


States that are buying the lowest amounts from Ammo.com are North and 
South Dakota, and West Virginia, where sales have only increased by a 
measly 100%. I guess they were ready in those states.


And after all is said and done, the Second Amendment does use the words 
“necessary to the security of a free state!”

IOWA Family:

As many of you know, multiple orders were issued in California 
yesterday to keep the population "Safer at Home."  In both the County 
and City of Los Angeles, these orders were issued to go until April 
19th with a possibility of extending.  This order prevents us from 
reopening until April 19th at the earliest.  You can view the

April 19th is always a difficult date for anyone involved with the 
Battleship IOWA.  April 19th is the anniversary date of the Turret 2 
explosion in 1989 when 47 sailors lost their lives.  Every year we 
hold a service in memory of these sailors and to support those whose 
lives and memories will forever be affected.  Depending on how the 
COVID-19 situation evolves, we will adjust the memorial service to 
ensure that this date is not forgotten.


We are in this crisis together!  Our local, state, and federal 
governments are working on relief for each and every American to try 
and reduce the hardship.  New information and programs are being 
released daily.  I will try to include resources that I am aware of at 
the bottom of my messages, as they may be helpful to you.


Thank you to all of those that have donated to date!  We are working 
to keep the donor list updated in our e-blasts, but it may lag a few

The impact is tremendous as 69% of our revenue is generated from

suspended all non-critical Accounts Payable until we reopen or receive 
sufficient funding from the several funding sources we are working on. 
Additionally, we have eliminated all non-essential power usage for six 
days per week.  We have reduced hours and staffing to essential levels 
and are looking at potential further reductions to critical levels in 
the coming weeks if we are unable to raise sufficient funding to carry 
us through for 8 to 10 weeks minimum.  I know the financial needs are

complex.  We must ensure that the IOWA remains safely moored and not 
in a hazardous condition to our community.  Therefore, the only crew 
permitted at the ship are those in the Operations and Security 
departments.  The crew that is aboard ship are required to maintain 
social distancing, which is six feet from each other at all times.
•* USNS Mercy and Surface Navy. * It was announced in the media 
yesterday that the Governor of California requested the US Navy to 
deploy the USNS Mercy to the Port of Los Angeles.  Currently we are 
not aware of any additional details of this possible deployment.  I 
bring this up to highlight Humanitarian Assistance as a key pillar of 
the Surface Navy. This is an opportunity to educate our public on the 
important role of the Surface Navy, as well as the DSCA (Defense 
Support of Civilian Authorities) planning program during LA Fleet 
Week. For the past four years, Emergency Response personnel of all 
levels of government have participated in a program during LA Fleet 
Week to plan for a major disaster like the one presented to us today.

The problem is that none appear to be available, except a few in yurp
for something in the area of 50 euro or 50 Bp when I can buy the whole
assembly for $45 from FCP.

I took Jim's solution and ordered 2 6004-2RS FAG bearings for under $12
delivered.
            6004s are 20x42x12 so you need a 4 to 6 mm wide spacer 
between them.   I ground off a ring from the old bearing, then ground it 
flat as I could, and assembled the spacer between the bearings in the arm.


Don't forget the spacer behind the arm!

Or the whole arm is MB# 601 200 17 73

yeah, the actual bearing is 5935xx, and somewhere between 26 and 30 mm 
wide.   It is unobtanium.   Last year I found 2 FAG 6004s on fleabay for 
cheap. THose went in the 87.  I made a center spacer from the shell of 
the old bearing.   6004s are only 12mm wide.   I was thinking the spacer 
was about 3 mm.


Since I found one with a good bearing, i'll use it, but will look to 
procure a couple 6004s and get the next one ready to go in.


Yes, I think a good bronze bushing may do better.  But I have no way to 
machine one and I bet you can't buy one the right size.


fleabay has some double roller bearings the right ID and OD, but 30 mm 
wide.  might work, but they are $50 to $120, so you'd be as well of to 
just buy the new arm for $70.   I think I got the 2 6004s last year for $8.

IIRC, for the 602 and 603, it was a double wide bearing, which was
expensive and hard to find. However, someone here pointed me to using two
regular bearings - which worked fine.
However, that use of a roller bearing is one of the worst cases for them -
frequent partial rotation/ I wonder if a nice brass bushing wouldn't do
better in that location?
Is there an engineer in the house???

Found my box of used belt tensioner arms.   I had marked on the box need 
2x 6004 bearings.   I found one in there with a good bearing I was 
pretty sure I had salvaged from a 124 with a 606 in it.   I will put 
that one on tomorrow, then I don't have to mess with trying to find 
6004, or wait a week to get bearings or a $70 arm.


Want to do the tensioner arm, the fan clutch and change coolant all at once.

Maybe late 606 or turbo 606 have that different tensionerarm?

I found a youboob about changing the bearing, but he does not say where 
he got the bearing.  calls himself turbodieselweasel.

I don't need a how to change the bearing, I need a "Where the H can you 
BUY the special roller bearing for it."   FAG does not even list the 
number in their crossover catalogs.   No bearing house can find it.  MB 
does not have it.    Easy enough to change, if only you could find the 
bearing.

crap, I can't find the bearing number.   I changed one about a year ago 
and posted the bearing number.   I think  it was 6004.  but I may be 
confusing that with the driveshaft carrier bearing.   I changed that 
about the same time.


6004 is 20x42x12mm

Carrier bearing I found is 6006-2rs   30x55x13

so it is 2 6004 I need to rebuild one of the old tensioners.   Wonder 
who has a couple for cheep?   Local would be best!

couple.   I have 2 old tensioners I can rebuild.   That way I don't have 
to wait a week and pay $60-70.

[MBZ] Belt tensioner arm OM603, vs OM602, VS OM606

Just got the belt tensioner arm from AZ for the 91 OM602.   If is a 606 
part number which autohaus shows as correct for the 91.  However it does 
not have the same roller bearing in the middle as I am used to with the 
603 in 124 and 126.   THis has a much larger hole and what looks like 
spring steel inserts over front and rear bushings, where the bearing 
should be.   It also looks deeper front to back than the 603 arm.   It 
would require a much larger diameter bolt.


Anyone had the arm off a 91 or newer OM602 turbo?   Does it have the 
bearing retained by a internal circlip?  (roller bearing about 1/8" 
wider than 2 of ball bearings of the same od/id as the roller bearing 
that can't be purchased separately.   I wanna say it was 2 6004 bearings 
with a spacer that I used last time to avoid buying the whole arm.


I don't want to take it apart and have the car sit for a week while the 
right arms gets here.   This would take a completely different bolt 
also.  Much larger diameter.  I;m trying to figure out if this is just 
wrong, or if this engine has been updated and this is the right arm.

rampant, and Chloroquine is widely used, there is no or almost no wuhan 
virus.

CHICOMS ARE SAYING YOUNG healthy people who have been later scanned (Did 
not say ct or mri) show 20% permanent lung damage.   no confirmation 
from other areas.
  I don't see any reason why they would lie about this, but who knows. 
They lie about everything else.

if significant lung damage occurs.

right.   and the theory is that by having people try to be hermits, we 
can lower the peak numbers and spread the hopital load out over a longer 
time.   Sounds good on paper.   We are old enough to remember when we 
DID have a lot more hospital beds.   Hospitals were closed and torn down 
or converted to other use "Because we don't need so many beds" in the 
80s and 90s. Many towns lost their only hospital.    Like everything 
else, need for hospital beds is cyclical.   The regular flu is 
cyclical.  the death numbers go up over 100% and the next year may be 
only 50% of the peak year.


But lying with statistics is still lying.   We need to cut funding to UN 
and its offspring WHO.   The USA can stand on out own.

   I am not discounting the potential severity of the wuhan flu.  At
   the same time there is considerable evidence that the media has over
   hyped the danger.   The article below is an illustration of how to
   lie with statistics.    You don't even need to buy Mr. Huff's little
   book.

   The controversial Ethiopian politician and Director General of the
   World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, claimed
   in a press conference in early March that the fatality rate for the
   coronavirus was many multiples that of the fatality rate of the
   common flu.

   This egregiously false premise has led to the greatest panic in
   world history.

   The Director General of the WHO spoke on March 3, 2020 and shared
   this related to the coronavirus:

   While many people globally have built up immunity to seasonal flu
   strains, COVID-19 is a new virus to which no one has immunity. That
   means more people are susceptible to infection, and some will suffer
   severe disease.

   Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died. By
   comparison, seasonal flu generally kills far fewer than 1% of those
   infected.

   This statement led to the greatest panic in world history as the
   media all over the world shared and repeated that the coronavirus
   was many, many times more deadly than the common flu.

   The problem is his statement is false. It was not accurate!

   The Gateway Pundit reported yesterday, that the coronavirus fatality
   rate reported by the media was completely inaccurate and the actual
   rate is less than the current seasonal flu – the media was lying
   again. The false reporting of the coronavirus fatality rate of 3.4%
   in the media started with the statements made by the WHO in early March.

Take a look at this recent summary that actually proves the Director 
General’s statement was materially false, though you’ll not hear 
mainstream media talking about this at all:


   *1. The fatality rate of the coronavirus was based on current data
   available of known positive cases and known deaths.*

   Oftentimes estimates have to be made because data is just not yet
   available. The Director General of the World Health Organization
   (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, used the fatality rate of
   coronavirus with known numbers and used this as his prediction of
   eventual mortality rate. This was a faulty assumption. Estimates
   usually involve obtaining information that is available and making
   estimates on what is not. We cannot tell the future but we can make
   educated guesses based on information available. This is what has
   been done with the coronavirus because this type of virus has
   apparently never been seen before.

   *2. Sometimes estimates are reasonable and sometimes they are wrong,
   and even way off.*

   The point is that whenever estimates are made of large unknown
   values they are always wrong because no one can tell the future.
   Sometimes estimates end up close and sometimes they are not and
   sometimes they are way off.

This is a factor that simply cannot be overstated. There was a massive 
lack of information available at the time when this whole situation 
kicked off. People seem to take every single thing reported by the WHO 
as the absolute, accurate truth without taking other factors into 
consideration.


   *3. The current “estimate” for the coronavirus fatality rate
   according to the WHO is about 3.4%.*

   The estimate used most often is from the WHO based on the Director
   General’s comments. The WHO estimates the mortality rate of the
   coronavirus to be around 3.4%:

   The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated the mortality
   rate from Covid-19 is about 3.4%. That is higher than seasonal
   flu and is cause for concern – but even if it is correct, more
   than 96% of people who become infected with the coronavirus will
   recover.

   *4. The same rate for this year’s seasonal flu is 10% if you use
   known cases and known deaths (but the media tells you it’s .1%).*

   As The Gateway Pundit reported earlier, according to CDC numbers, in
   the US in the 2019-2020 flu season, there were 222,552 confirmed
   cases of the flu from testing and an estimated 36 million flu cases
   in the United States. There were 22,000 estimated deaths from the
   flu (via the CDC).

IN LATE DEC, EARLY JAN, there were reports that smoke from wuhan could 
be seen from satellites. it was postulated that this was from 
incinerating bodies.   That would be more in line with the deaths from 
wuhan flu in other countries. Could well have been millions.    The 
whole thing is the fault of the chicoms on several levels.

That's the color of the e320 I got from Kleb.   I loved the color and 
the car, but the M014 scared me, and it had been abused.   I am sure it

In germany, the trains are clean, well maintained, and run on time, with 
efficient and courteous staff.


In Italy, the trains run, mostly, except when they don't.  I am not 
being critical,  It is a cultural difference, and I love both, because 
they ARE different.
One shortline haul, from Foggia to Metaponto and points eastward is a 
case in point.   The train was late leaving, ran maybe 40-60 miles and 
stopped.  Not at a station.   After a while, the train crew were 
standing beside the cab of the engine, with a dirty (well used) manual 
and having what I call an Italian conversation.  Each pointing to one or 
the other, or the book, with other hands flailing, voices alternately 
raised or lowered, each passionately arguing his point.   then one to 
three would disappear, then they'd reconvene and carry on the 
troubleshooting conversation.   Eventually they got the locomotive 
started, and we arrived at dark.  were were 6-8 hours late on a 1.5 to 2 
hour trainride.  The taxis had all gone home.   The van that was 
supposed to meet us had left.  Nobody spoke english.   we could not call 
because we did not have an italian phone card.  We had not been able to 
get lire yet, we had only DM or Pounds.  Finally the last man left at 
the station waiting for his ride took pity on us, and loaned us his 
phone card.  He was not an Italian.   with his broken Italian and our 
English we determined that he was an "Alb" and we figured out we knew 
that as albanian.   We thanked him for his kindness and tried to offer 
DM but he refused.    I absolutely love Italy and Italians, but they do 
not think or act like Germans ot English or Americans.   Others have 
already mentioned the interaction and closeness, but there are other 
cultural differences too, as I have attempted to point out in this 
experience.


The week in Southern Italy is one of the highlights of my life.

trustworthy so far.   We in the US may be seeing fewer german brands

this picture of the new one has two lines at the inlet and outlet, so it 
is apparently a parallel flow


The ones in the 87 and 91 300Ds also have two inlet and outlet tubes.   
I guess that is why the klima guys don't have a 124 model.

Yesterday the low speed worked when I pulled and replaced the relay k10, 
with the top sensor pulled and the pressure switch by the dryer jumped.  
But then it quit again on the test drive.   I replaced the relay with 
one I stole from the SDL, but have not driven it yet.   It worked in the 
same static test, pulling and replacing the relay.  I suppose I should 
dig out the deoxit and spray the pins and sockets, but it is not i n an 
easy place to get to.


I still don't know if the pins were not making contact, if the relay is 
intermittent or if the wires connecting to the relay socket are 
flakey.   I think one of the first two, or a combination.


I guess it makes sense that disconnecting the top sensor activates a 
fail safe. that would explain the action of the sensor running counter 
to observed activity.


 Wish these cars had manual h-A/C controls!   I still despise ACC 
in any number.  To me, engine heat management belongs in the cooling 
section, not in ACC section.   It is a critical component of engine 
operation.   The cooling section should at least have references to 
where they buried the engine heat management stuff.  Did I ever mention 
I don't like ACC?

Read FSM 83-600, sections I thru K.  That explains how the aux fan circuits
function.  The high speed is controlled via the HVAC PBU; I suspect that
when you disconnect that temperature sensor, the HVAC has a circuit which
defaults to turning the fans on (emergency fail-safe).  In other words, the
PBU will turn on the fans if the temperature sensor gives a high
temperature reading (looks like 107 deg C) OR the PBU will turn on the fans
if there is an open circuit and it doesn't know what the engine temperature
is.

Did you verify that the low speed side is working correctly?

I read on a PP forum that unplugging a relay and pluggin it in cured a

with cold engine, the fan temp sensor at the top front of the head has 
5,000 ohm resistance.   At 80 to 82ºC coolant temp, it is 600 ohms.


One wire is at 5v. (From terminal 8 of the ACC PBU.)   The other goes to 
ground. via ACC air delivery (whatever that is)



At infinity ohms (plug unhooked,) the fans will come on with the key on.

So if the fans come on at higher resistance, the would seem that the 
resistance should get higher as the temp gets warmer.   Instead, the 
resistance gets lower as the temp gets higher.


I am so far, not convinced that the sensor is good or is bad.   It is 
still suspect because I don't know what the specs are for its performance.

hm  maybe that is why your Klima guys don't sell one?   Or is that 
not the original number for the 87?


If that number supercedes the original part in 85-9x models, then it 
likely is the 134a condensor, while the originals may not have been. 
I'll try to look at both cars side by side to see if the condensors look 
the same.

they’re using the same condensor across the board no matter what. Hard to say

They’re cheap as wine - a Nissens is $131.00 and a Behr is $95.00 both at FCP 
Euro.
