I washed and waxed my 87 300D out in the sun on Tuesday. Shorts, t shirt

that crap.

Things are improving.
The forecast is for a bit of a cold weekend here but then next week
things are to improve and the forecast is good for the next 10 days or
so after.
The lows are supposed to be -9 C and the highs around 0 C.
It is amazing how much better it is at 0 than at -20 C.

Snow is starting to melt on the warmer days and the potholes are
showing up. It is +4 C here right now according to the weather
network.

Unfortunately, Winnipeg is struggling with frozen water pipes. There
are now more than a thousand homes without water due to frozen pipes.
This is the worst it has been since the winter of 1978-79 according to
the paper this morning.
Mostly older areas of the city where the pipes are not buried as
deeply as in the newer areas.
The newer rules specify 7 1/2 feet deep. I am fortunate to be in a
newer area - and my house is about 33 years old.
The cold has driven the frost very deep this winter and the powers
that be are saying the risk may run into June as it will take a while
for the ground to thaw if it does not warm up more than normal (and it
is forecast to be a cooler than normal spring if I recall correctly).
The folks really at risk are in the older areas and on the wrong side
of the street. The water mains run down the one side of the street and
if the hookup to your house has to cross under the roadway, then you
are at greater risk because the roads are ploughed and thus do not
have the insulating snow over the pipes.

If this keeps up, I might have my 300D on the road in another month.

Seriously, accidents have happened.

You don't need them for the rear springs on the W123 sedan. The fronts

I pulled up buymbparts.biz today and saw it was down. Jabba since you
sold the .com is there no more buymbparts?

Sounds like Trent had to go on "vacation" >.<

I've lately had good luck ordering from pelican parts better pricing
that autohausaz and their contribution to peachparts means I'll go to
them when the pricing is the same or close enough.

Since Rusty sold out, I've been desperate for a local worldpac dealer.
Today my front flexdisk popped (so did my air bag beware!) and
remembered carquest was a worldpac dealer (rumored owner).

When I called looking for a unknown part to an unknown car
(frankenbenz), I ended up with 3 flex disks being ordered from the
warehouse since they couldnt pull up the lemforder part #. Even Rusty
wasn't that patient with me.

Re: [MBZ] 87 300TD

2013-03-07 Thread Rolf
So I actually added a step in between (before the final tightening sequence)
and gave them an extra while to sit before that last 90*

Heads coming off again so I can pop the pistons out and rehone the cylinders
and hope I get better compression for cheap. All the fuel my super pump dumps
in is causing misfires.

I didn't use anything fancy at all. I just used the $40 digital torque wrench

Part of me died reading the announcement. No other parts guy has ever been as
understanding and reliable (that might go both ways) as Rusty.

A little known secret about Rusty is his milk box. Often I have been unable to
get to him during the week for parts and often have I grabbed one or all of my
kids on the weekend to "go see Rusty". I will miss that milk box. I will make
it the stuff of legends.

Damnit, where are my hankies.

It is the spam filter that is rejecting the emails, not the mailing list

easy one.

Perhaps the spam filter can be tweaked. I don't know what spam filter program
the mailman mail list software uses. I have found documentation for ASSP and
SpamAssasin. Neither looks particularly fun to deal with. Maybe another geeky

it is going there is not a wisp of smoke until wot in 3rd gear. Makes
for a nice DD if I can just get the hellish smoke and rough idle fixed.

[MBZ] OT Home phone on the super cheap, $40 upfront , $0 monthly. 3enumeda

2012-12-07 Thread Rolf

I came across this article when looking for a cheap homephone solution
that outlined using a device from obihai.com.

$40 for the box, google voice (which is free) for the in and out bound
calls.

http://www.obihai.com/tutorial1.html

Now, who know how long google will let voice be free or obihai will be
in business or this will continue to work, but I figure for the $40 it
will pay for itself in 4 mos.

A head gasket for a NA 606 set would explain why there was no gasket

So, I need the obvious:
head gasket kit
head bolts (or carefully measure stretch)
valve seals
turbo seal kit if not included in the head set (orings for drain,
gasket for supply)
Injector nozzle heat shields (if not in head kit)
Hose and a plastic bag to seal up nozzle holders and DV unions in

Things that I probably don't need as they are recent:
valve cover gasket
injector line clips
Timing chain and guides

Things I may need:

Anything I am missing on these three lists?

Any special tools needed aside from the special socket for the head

We have a number of indoor and outdoor wrought iron furnture pieces
that came with plastic "feet". These feet are of two types - one type
fits (inserts) into the round indentation at the bottom of the
furniture leg. The other type fits over the round flat metal "pad" at
the bottom of the furniture leg. The latter type is similar to the
rubbery "shoe" one finds on the bottom of the adjustable legs of a
washing machine.
These plastic pads have all worn out from scaping on hard surfaces
like tile and concrete. I was hoping to solve the problem by finding
just the right sized bottle caps as substitutes. That idea didn't
quite work out. I then contacted mail order places and they seem to
have some items, but they are kinda expensive. I am hoping not to
have to make my own. Anyone found an easy solution? I hate the sound
of metal scraping on concrete and tile.

1 turn will give me 125cc. I've been doing some hard research on what is
need to keep everything behind the engine from falling apart. 2 biggest
worries are trans and flexdisks. Trans had the smaller diameter yoke and
my DS has small yoke at front and big one in rear. I am more concerned
about the front one. Also the transmount, been looking for a poly
replacement.

$75 it cost us to have the home warranty come fix it was cheaper than a
toner. Of course I wasn't here and now I don't know where the problem was!

How do you know one set goes to other lights and one to a power source?

You might well have a situation like mine where, during a renovation

If so, you should be able to quickly isolate the pair that goes to the
fan box.

Just short them together and then test at the switch box with a
continuity tester.

Now of course, if you have more than one pair and the other pair is
shorted, that might not be quite so simple. You might then want a long
jumper wire to connect the fan and then isolate wire by wire.

If you only have one pair in the switch box then you don't have power
anywhere and will need to run power to one box or the other.

I accidently did that when we were adding on to our house years
ago. Ran

the wires and then had it inspected and then drywalled etc. Installed
switches and light fixtures in a bed room and then found that the
lights

would not work. Turned out that I had neglected to run power into the
switch box or the light fixture boxes so no power at all available.
Had to
fish one in but it was easy as there was power at a fixture on the
main
floor just below it. Worked out but I felt somewhat foolish at the
time.

If there is power at the breaker, then I wonder if you just do

Have you pulled the fan and checked the wires to see if there is

My basic feeling is that if the circuit worked before, it should

I had a dead circuit in my house once years ago and it took me
most of a day to track from one outlet to another but I found a

Almost every single appliance I own uses LED lights, so they are all
pulsing and strobing? Guess I'm lucky I don't notice it. Do you
  notice it everywhere?

It used to be pretty obvious on old LED digital displays (calculators,
watches) but I always assumed that was because each segment was being
driven sequentially by the hardware.

I certainly see it. Leds have to be pulsed or they burn out.

I've never heard that an LED must be pulsed, just need a resisitor in
series to control the current. Is this incorrect?
