FWIW, I am a dentist (oral surgeon), I don't do dentistry without numbing, I would not even consider doing a painful procedure on someone without it. I am a firm believer in that pain should be addressed. First to eliminate the cause of the pain in as painless as possible method. I then obviously advise some sort of pain relief after. Ibuprofen is an excellent OTC medication for pain. However Lortab and Percocet are indicated when Ibuprofen is not enough. IMHO, one should take advantage of modern medicine. We don't recommend whiskey anymore (LOL). I also routinely use IV sedation. The use of anesthesia is for one reason. That would be the prevention and protection of the patient having pain. Having said the above long term use of narcotic pain medicine is NOT indicated generally. These can be habit forming. This obviously would not be a good thing. Having hip surgery (again my opinion) is a indication for narcotic pain medicine (relief). There is little benefit of someone hurting after a procedure. -Original Message- From: Dieselhead 126die...@gmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Sun, Mar 24, 2013 2:27 pm Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT: Hooked on oxys [was: Re: Ripping me open [was: Re: Autohaus AZ]] Correct. Nothing eliminates pain. Pain is there to keep us from hurting ourselves and to allow healing. I do not even let the dentist use Novocaine. The drill is annoying, but the pain is not that bad. When I get out of the chair, it is over. When they use Novocaine, you are out of commission for at least half a day. Overcoming pain is more a matter of mind over matter. This position is not without experience. My back was nearly broken over 40 years ago. It hurts right now. But it is a minor annoyance. Having the right mindset, laughing, and keeping busy are the best medications for pain. I believe there are less addictive medicines available, if medicine is necessary. Some painkillers affect people differently. For example, after a few doses of Percoset I stopped taking them because of unpredictable side effects. Hydrocodone was far more predictable but I also only took a few. I am like Dan, would rather tough it out. Pain medication is supposed to reduce, not eliminate pain, right? I think a lot of people think pain medication should eliminate pain of any sort. On Sun, Mar 24, 2013 at 9:49 AM, Dan Penoff d...@penoff.com wrote: That stuff scares the heck out of me. Re: [MBZ] OT - Dr. Charlie
I realize this is off topic and I don't comment a lot but felt inclined to do so on this. I am an Oral Surgeon, I liked the article shared with us. I certainly agree with a lot of what was said in the article. I left with a nice warm feeling about it too. There will be cases that are very parallel to the article. Now, Let me tell you something that I think is in the upcoming health care package. This will save a lot of money. Let us not administer care to old people. Heck they are going to die anyway. The government decides that this is not a good expenditure of health care dollars and stops paying for care for people over the age of (fill in blank with number you think is appropriate, or should we expect the government to fill in the blank as I expect). The savings realized can then be used for paying for aliens and others on the dole. After all, these people are younger members of society with potential to become productive. While the government is at it, lets increase funding to hospice care (which is occurring). We just need to make sure the public is educated enough to again sign up for this option, the cost benefit/savings are significant. I just have to wonder if the article is just another piece of propaganda that is being distributed by our big brother. No, I don't want nor expect to live forever, I have paid a lot in taxes over the years and now that I am soon to be a recipient of healthcare dollars, I will be told to subject myself to accepting my fate (as medicare will be cut). My question is Is this kinda like paying for a party for someone and then being told that you can not attend? I may be wrong, but my message is just think about it, and try to evaluate/decide your own situation as opposed to having the decisions made for yourself by some well intentioned employee of medicare/other governmental agency. And, stick to your decision for you and your family. -Original Message- From: Max meadedil...@bellsouth.net To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Tue, May 15, 2012 8:15 pm Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT - Dr. Charlie Mountain Man maontin@gmail.com wrote: http://zocalopublicsquare.org/thepublicsquare/2011/11/30/how-doctors-die/read/nexus/ Great article, thanks for sharing. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '95 E300, '87 300TD ___ ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

You are correct, it is a G wagon with a peugeot engine and transmission. Also it has a few other minor changes, electrics primarily. The reason for the change is that the French wanted to say it was theirs not German. So, it was manufactured by Peugeot then Panhard (military french company) under license from MB. I actually have a 280g with an automatic. It too is a right hand drive. I thought maybe the diesel with automatic would decrease performance vs the manual. Re: [MBZ] Ot motorhomes
I also had a 5.9 cummins 1993 gulfstream. It had 190 hp and it got about the same mileage. It was woefully underpowered. I also had the 4 speed transmission vs the 6 speed. I had a fried that had 5.9 cummins that had 230 hp with the 6 speed transmission and it got better mileage and had improved performance. The 454 is probably better in some ways than the 190 cummins in my opinion (tho it was a pusher and hence quieter). I would prefer the 230 tho over the 454. The 454 is a good gas motorhome. I think for the dollar and value it would be great. I agree that the gas mileage difference is not much different (if any). Again, it comes down to how fast you go. With the 190 you can not go over about 60-65 and hard to maintain even 55 over modest hills. -Original Message- From: Kaleb C. I did change out the rakes and rotors on it and the parts were cheap. The parts are pretty much one on chevrolet truck parts. The air conditioner never worked very well so, you eed a generator to make sure your roof air conditioners work. I think 2 AC's re best (for southern climes). I do recommend that you have a gasoline enerator vs a propane generator. It is a pain to have to do both propane and asoline at the stops. I would definately check out the engine/trans with omeone as the cost to exchange those out equal the cost of the motorhome. I resently have a diesel and love it, but I did pay more than 5k for it. Re: [MBZ] Ot motorhomes
Well, I think the benefit of the motorhome over the truck camper combo is that the trip there in the motorhome is better. If one is going to be at one spot for a longer time then I really believe that a truck trailer is better. But, if one is going to be some where for only a day or two then a motorhome is pretty much ready to go in a moments notice. Also the frige is full (hopefully) and the bed is there for passengers to rest while the on the road. It beats the heck out of trying to sleep in an auto. To get better mileage then you almost have to have a smaller diesel motorhome. The 30+ foot jobs by in large are not going to get over 10mpg. The smaller ones can. You basicly have a house going down the highway. The bigger the house, the heavier and hence less mpg. -Original Message- From: Rick Knoble rickkno...@hotmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Fri, Jun 24, 2011 11:08 am Subject: Re: [MBZ] Ot motorhomes crap. He xplained that when you get to he place where you are going to camp, it is truly a pain to pack up the motor ome and go to the corner store o buy groceries, propane, or whatever. Re: [MBZ] Ot motorhomes
I had a 31 foot 454 holiday rambler motorhome with the turbo 400 transmission. It got about 7-9 miles per gallon. It really depends on how fast you drive it. If you drive about 55 it will get better mileage than if you drive 65-70 (as I did often). I had very little problem with the 454. I did change out the brakes and rotors on it and the parts were cheap. The parts are pretty much one ton chevrolet truck parts. The air conditioner never worked very well so, you need a generator to make sure your roof air conditioners work. I think 2 AC's are best (for southern climes). I do recommend that you have a gasoline generator vs a propane generator. It is a pain to have to do both propane and gasoline at the stops. I would definately check out the engine/trans with someone as the cost to exchange those out equal the cost of the motorhome. I presently have a diesel and love it, but I did pay more than 5k for it. For 5K you can have a lot of fun if you don't have costly mechanical problems. I will say the 454 was a good runner. -Original Message- From: Kaleb C. Re: [MBZ] pressure washers
I have had several pressure washers. Agree totally an electric is hardly accecptable. I had a great power washer from wal mart. It was a briggs and straton engine 2500psi 3gal which never gave me a problem. It got stolen, I then moved up to a honda 2800psi and 2.5 gallon. I have had several problems with the honda engine that were never a problem with the Briggs. If I were doing it again, I would definately consider the Briggs (cheaper, a little louder, less problematic). I think the brand I had was excel. The honda was purchased from Home Depot. I do like have an additional hose such that the washer does not have to be moved as much. I try to run all of the gas out of the power washer to keep it from clogging up the carb. -Original Message- From: Howard Ginsberg mbkindof...@gmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Wed, Jun 22, 2011 4:24 pm Subject: Re: [MBZ] pressure washers What are you interested in pressure washing? -Howard On Wed, Jun 22, 2011 at 4:49 PM, glenn brown g_010...@hotmail.com wrote: What do you guys know about pressure washers? Re: [MBZ] OT: Anyone ever repaired a retainer?
I have repaired a retainer. BTW, I am a dentist. With that in mind, you would need dental acrylic. This is the pink stuff that denture gums are made from. However, I tend to agree with the response of not repairing it yourself as if it is repaired incorrectly (even just a few tenths of a millimeter) then the teeth would be moved however much it was off and then the teeth would be retained in an incorrect position (as a best case scenario). I do not suggest super glue and certainly not epoxy. I have seen a lot of dental appliances that have been repaired with super glue. Of course the ones I see are usually problematic. There might be some out there that are not problematic. Best advice, truly, get your dentist/orthodontist to repair. -Original Message- From: Walt Zarnoch zarnoch...@gmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Sun, Jun 19, 2011 6:32 pm Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT: Anyone ever repaired a retainer? I have a 2002 ford 7.3 diesel and it has been a great truck and have driven about (just over 200,000 miles). The body is well put together still does not rattle, doors open shut etc. It has had a water pump, changed out the tie rod ends, switch for the mirrors and that is about it with the exception of brakes, tires, oil changes, and other maintenance items. I bought it new in 2002. It does get about 16 mpg maybe 20 on highway. I have never gotten 24 miles from one gallon. However, I don't think I ever drive 55 on the highway for very long. I have a friend who has a dodge, he has less miles and has had a lot of problems with not the engine but about everything else. I just drove the over 20 mile truck to Illinois and back to Texas this weekend. Got about 16-17mpg going about 70-75 mph and it ran great and I love the truck. I had a 1994 c280 (daughter's car) was ruined in hurricaine Ike. It did not have a rust issue but, in all fairness I got it from central Texas (not up north where they use a lot of salt on the roads). It was a really good car. The issue with them is the wiring harness. I understand they were made of some material that was not heat resistant and eventually fails and needs replacing. Cost is a factor. Re: [MBZ] OT: Military as welfare.
I will have to put in my 2 cents though it is not worth much. I get to assist the local medical with care of the USCG servicemen and women. I can honestly say that they seem to get some pretty bright recruits. I have yet to think one of them was retarded. I have seen some who I can say were of average intelligence and maybe a little lower but, certainly not retarded. My overall impression of them is that they are pretty clean cut good kids and a cut above of the general public. [MBZ] assist with diagnosis on no start
I bought a 82 300sd with the idea of a transplant engine for my G-wagen. My G has the 2.8 (110) engine and I wanted to dieselize it. Am I totally nuts (changing from 110 in line 6 petro to 617 diesel 5 cylinder)? Also, would the transmission on the G-wagen fit the 617 diesel? The car (300sd) is hard to start. My thought is it is the glow plugs? The glow plug light comes on and goes off (like it is supposed to do) but will not start without just a puff of starter fluid. After the engine has warmed up it starts without hesitation. It seems to run well after starting, tho I don't think the turbo is kicking in when it is supposed to do so (vacuum issue?). Anyway, I got this car for the engine (rust bucket) as it seemed to run pretty well, but is too slooow or non start (without assist). Can someone give an idea on what I need to do to get it to start like it is supposed to do? I do not like the idea of starter fluid ignition/starting ( I know is bad). Note, it has 130k on speedo (that is nonfunctional). I believe engine/car to have about 200k on it. Why? the seats are intact, pedal wear has about that (200k miles total guess on my part). That is how I arrived at about 200k. Long note, sorry for length, my knowledge is limited and hoping for some sage advice. Re: [MBZ] 1994 S320
I think most of the electrical harness issues were with the 94 to 96 gas cars.? This I understand will go bad if it has not already been replaced.? I had a 94 e320 and it had the harness replaced.? I also had a 94 c280 and it had not had the harness replaced but had the check engine lite on most of the year that I owned.? It was never a significant problem, but it only had about 120k miles on it.? I understand that as they get older the isulation on the harness gets more brittle, shorts more and more and deteriorates after that.? I understand also that the actuator switch for the accelerator can go bad also.? When I bought mine, I took it to the local MB dealer and that is how I found out both the accellerator switch and harness had been replaced on my e320.? my 2 cents, hope is helpful -Original Message- From: E M pokieba...@gmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Thu, 11 Jun 2009 12:08 pm Subject: Re: [MBZ] 1994 S320 I've always loved the cars, and even looked a couple a few months back. Re: [MBZ] OT - IBM Working to Integrate ALL Med Records
There may be nothing that can be done regarding slowing the information age down, I see this as problematic for a lot of folks.? Now every insurance company will want this information to evaluate whether or not you are a good risk (not unlike auto insurance).? Also, there will be instances where ones information that wish to remain private will do so.? Like seeing psych doctor once, or having an abortion, having a diesease that may not be considered socailly accecptable (no matter how it was obtained).? This information, not unlike financial information may not be best to spread around (for the benefit of that particular individual).? Conversely, there will many instances where the addtional information will be helpful and that is what we will be told and how this is going to be sold (or swallowed like medicine that tastes bad but is supposed to be good for us).? 5 years will probably be tops in when this happens.? -Original Message- From: Gary Hurst jabbahur...@gmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Fri, 17 Apr 2009 9:06 pm Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT - IBM Working to Integrate ALL Med Records no, they will use it against you in all kinds of ways. anything that is known about you can and will be when the opportunity arises. no one is going to ask for your permission. Only issue has been an occasional slight dribble from the front door w/really full load, which appears to be nearly universal for these puppies. I have a whirlpool duet (rather pricey) but have had 2 years and it is great! They do a better job on cleaning, supposedly cleans better and is easier on the materials (does not beat them up as much). I have not had a single repair. My uncle used to work for montgomery ward and his opinion was that Whirlpool made the best washers. cks I got the extended warranty b/c of the history of these being problems in the past and relatively new tech for the US manufacturers building them. Washer has paid for itself with reduced hot/warm water consumption, reduced demand from our well is a bonus. Much easier on clothes but these do retain some water and you'll likely get mold at some point esp. if the door is kept shut. Tony Wirtel -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... [MBZ] wolf stoves,
most commercial stoves are great, but most have pilot lights and also require one heck of a vent fan to come up to code.? Re: [MBZ] OT - Stupid
if you are breathing then you are exhaling CO2, then it would not build up in your body. The burning you feel when you don't take a breath is the CO2 building up. The lack of oxygen is what gets you. If you are in a helium atmosphere then you would obviously loose the CO2 and not get the oxygen. Hence you are a goner and not even feel the burning of your lungs. You would most likely get a first a little disoriented, which would increase until loss of consciousness. Continued oxygen deprivation would lead to the inevitable conclusion. The reason one does not die in a closed up house or car is that there is some exchange of air even in the most well sealed house or auto. Re: [MBZ] 280 g with no AC. Want it tho!
I got it from England.? It is a 280G with the 6 cylinder engine that is (I think) the same as the 280CE coupe.? It never had AC.? I live in Texas and would rather have AC (than not).? I realize that it may be a chore.? I think either an older 280e coupe or sedan would have parts that may just bolt on the engine.? The only details then seem to be the switches and ducting.? You are correct in that they did not bring these into the US until 2002.? However they were made in small numbers for the European market.? Thanks to all. -Original Message- From: Loren Faeth lfa...@leadingchange.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Sun, 1 Feb 2009 5:26 pm Subject: Re: [MBZ] 280 g with no AC. Want it tho! It would be helpful if you told us what year and preferably what engine type. There is a fair probability the compressor, mounting and hoses, etc from a sedan with the same engine type would fit. Not many Gwagons in the US, where most of us are. you might find a scrapper in europe, that has what you need.? ? At 02:25 PM 2/1/2009, you wrote:? -Original Message-? From: drcscru...@aol.com? Does anyone have information on adding AC to a 280G that never had it?? I have? seen aftermarket ac with a box below the dash and that seems to be the only? option I have run into so far.? Also would a c280 provide mounts for the? compressor?? I realize the engine is different and probably would not but wanted? to ask if someone else had knowledge that I lacked.? Thanks!
