For the asking price, I think I'd expect a 5-speed conversion, as well as
something done to fix up the interior beyond sheepskins.

2013-03-24 Thread drcscruggs

FWIW,

I am a dentist (oral surgeon), I don't do dentistry without numbing, I would
not even consider doing a painful procedure on someone without it. I am a firm
believer in that pain should be addressed. First to eliminate the cause of the
pain in as painless as possible method. I then obviously advise some sort of
pain relief after. Ibuprofen is an excellent OTC medication for pain. However
Lortab and Percocet are indicated when Ibuprofen is not enough. IMHO, one
should take advantage of modern medicine. We don't recommend whiskey anymore
(LOL). I also routinely use IV sedation. The use of anesthesia is for one
reason. That would be the prevention and protection of the patient having
pain. Having said the above long term use of narcotic pain medicine is NOT
indicated generally. These can be habit forming. This obviously would not be
a good thing. Having hip surgery (again my opinion) is a indication for
narcotic pain medicine (relief). There is little benefit of someone hurting
after a procedure.

Correct. Nothing eliminates pain. Pain is there to keep us from
hurting ourselves and to allow healing.

I do not even let the dentist use Novocaine. The drill is annoying,
but the pain is not that bad. When I get out of the chair, it is
over. When they use Novocaine, you are out of commission for at
least half a day. Overcoming pain is more a matter of mind over
matter. This position is not without experience. My back was nearly
broken over 40 years ago. It hurts right now. But it is a minor
annoyance.

Having the right mindset, laughing, and keeping busy are the best
medications for pain.

I believe there are less addictive medicines available, if medicine
is necessary.

Some painkillers affect people differently. For example, after a few doses
of Percoset I stopped taking them because of unpredictable side effects.
Hydrocodone was far more predictable but I also only took a few. I am
like Dan, would rather tough it out.

Pain medication is supposed to reduce, not eliminate pain, right?

I think a lot of people think pain medication should eliminate pain of any
sort.

I would recommend not walking down stairs in socks. Many times people will
fall especially on wooden stairs in sock feet. That is why hospitals uses
those socks that have those little rubber patterns on them. Just read this and

I was in my late teens when my dad built a beautiful new oak staircase in
our house. The uprights to the banister were in, but only held in place
with wooden spacers at the bottom fastened with small finishing nails. As I
came running (as I always did) down the steps with only socks on my feet I
slipped and bounced down the steps on my butt. With my left hand I reached
out to the uprights to stop my fall. They maybe slowed me down a little,
but I pulled almost all of them out as I went by.

I wasn't hurt except for my pride. But if I were to do this now at 67 yrs.
old, I am sure I would be in pain for a while. My dad was PO'd, but didn't
get on my case since he was glad I was OK.

I obviously was not and am paying the price for it.

We live in a 2 storey house and last Thursday morning, I slipped on the
stairs going down to put the coffee on.

Only managed to miss about the 3 bottom steps but I went down fast and hard
and landed on my back and banged my head on one of the stair treads. Good
thing they are carpeted and not bare hardwood. Although I did not break
anything - at least not obviously- I am paying for my carelessness.

I thought I was getting better and I guess I overdid something yesterday as
today it hurts worse than it did on Thursday.

Head is ok but ribs are unhappy. If I just sit here all is well but if I
move in certain ways I am reminded quickly that I should not do that.

I think I am not going to do much this evening.

So, be careful and don't do what I did.

I normally keep at least one hand on the handrails but for some reason I was
carrying something in each hand and did not have a hand out to either rail.
I had my glasses in one hand and am happy I did not manage to break them.

I did some revision of my CV, wrote a cover letter, and applied for the

I had not expected to hear anything about the postion, but I received a

So, we shall see how things develop. Please pray about this position with

[MBZ] have 115 need trans

2012-07-01 Thread drcscruggs

My step son has an old 1969 220d. It seems that he was jump starting the car by
rolling it down a hill to start. Any way the part (don't know the terms) that
connects the trans to the driveshaft is stripped as well as the splines that
come out of the back of the transmission. It seems to me that I will need the
part that connects to the driveshaft as well as the part extending from the
transmission repaired. This may mean new trans? Thanks for any thoughts.

Tailshaft in the tranny. Unlikely you can source the part - will probably have
to find a replacement tranny.

As for the drive shaft portion, good luck.. Used might be a possibility, but
not
sure how easily you can find one.

It's been a long time since I've been inside a transmission, but I know that in
some domestic slush boxes the tailshaft can be serviced with the transmission
in
the car. Typically the tails haft or rear housing can be removed, exposing the
part. What will determine this is how it connects to the rest of the
transmission

You might want to consider calling Sun Valley Transmissions and seeing if they
might have the part, too. Since they are an MB transmission rebuilder, it's
possible they had a used one laying around.

Good luck!

Re: [MBZ] OT - Dr. Charlie

2012-05-15 Thread drcscruggs
I realize this is off topic and I don't comment a lot but felt inclined to do
so on this.

I am an Oral Surgeon, I liked the article shared with us. I certainly agree
with a lot of what was said in the article. I left with a nice warm feeling
about it too. There will be cases that are very parallel to the article.

Now, Let me tell you something that I think is in the upcoming health care
package.

This will save a lot of money. Let us not administer care to old people. Heck
they are going to die anyway. The government decides that this is not a good
expenditure of health care dollars and stops paying for care for people over
the age of (fill in blank with number you think is appropriate, or
should we expect the government to fill in the blank as I expect). The savings
realized can then be used for paying for aliens and others on the dole. After
all, these people are younger members of society with potential to become
productive.

While the government is at it, lets increase funding to hospice care (which is
occurring). We just need to make sure the public is educated enough to again
sign up for this option, the cost benefit/savings are significant.

I just have to wonder if the article is just another piece of propaganda that
is being distributed by our big brother.

No, I don't want nor expect to live forever, I have paid a lot in taxes over
the years and now that I am soon to be a recipient of healthcare dollars, I
will be told to subject myself to accepting my fate (as medicare will be cut).
My question is Is this kinda like paying for a party for someone and then
being told that you can not attend?

I may be wrong, but my message is just think about it, and try to
evaluate/decide your own situation as opposed to having the decisions made
for yourself by some well intentioned employee of medicare/other governmental
agency. And, stick to your decision for you and your family.

you are correct, the charge for listing the item is free BUT they charge
basicly 10% of the actual sales price when you are paid, they deduct it from
you paypal account. It is NOT free.

Subject: [MBZ] Ebay fees

I have been intending for some time to list a few items on Ebay. Never seem to
have the time to get organized, study how to do it, etc. Today I receive an
email from Ebay claiming I can list up to 50 items per month free. However, in
the fine print, maybe its not free. Here's what the fine print says:

*List FREE: Up to 50 Auction-style items per month. Additional optional
Feature fees apply when used. 9% final value fee applied to the total amount of
the sale-including the cost of the item, shipping, and any other fees a seller
may charge (for example, engraving or gift wrapping), excluding any sales tax.
Does not apply to eBay Store subscribers and Vehicle categories on eBay Motors.

Does this mean I would pay a 9% fee on the final amount? Seems like a lot
(especially for free.)
What would I be paying if the listing were not free, or if I listed more than
50 items per month?
Is this something new or recent? Would the fee for selling auto parts be
different?
I'm hoping one or more of you have experience with this and can advise me.
Thanks in advance.

I have to laugh too. There was not a flag in the back. There are a couple of
what looks like gun holders by the front seats one on each side. I did find a
couple of bullets in the back. I think they are blanks as I did not see any
lead at the end, they may be shotshells that have pellets inside. I also found
some French gum wrappers Hollywood brand and a spent coke can.

You are correct, it is a G wagon with a peugeot engine and transmission. Also
it has a few other minor changes, electrics primarily. The reason for the
change is that the French wanted to say it was theirs not German. So, it was
manufactured by Peugeot then Panhard (military french company) under license
from MB. They were limited to France and French aligned countries in Africa.
However, I think it about 50-50 MB and French. They certainly are Jeep type

I actually have a 280g with an automatic. It too is a right hand drive. I
thought maybe the diesel with automatic would decrease performance vs the

have gotten stuck with a manual and ended up burning out the clutch. It really
does not take long to do that! But... that is another subject. I guess I am

For descending a steep grade a manual has HUGE advantages. However if you're

The 320cdi engine/drive train seems to be rock solid.

2011-07-12 Thread drcscruggs
My wife has a 2006 sedan that is the cdi and it is a GREAT car. I love it.
FWIW, frankly if were a diesel I would be keenly interested. Sorry if that is
an affront, certainly not intended that way. My wifes car goes great, smooth,
great mileage and without any problems. It has close to 100k miles.

Wow, thats just plain rude!
It amazes me to see the lack of respect people can have to something they
an not understand, and perhaps can not afford. In reality, these are the
eneration of cars that many of you will be buying once they reach bottom
eeder prices in a few more years. Even then, half of you will be preaching
bout how poorly they're designed and how you know better, while the other
alf might have some appreciation for what they really are.
I'll stop now to avoid insulting you any more than you've insulted me. I'm
unning out of patience for this list again.

Re: [MBZ] Ot motorhomes

2011-06-24 Thread drcscruggs
I also had a 5.9 cummins 1993 gulfstream. It had 190 hp and it got about the
same mileage. It was woefully underpowered. I also had the 4 speed
transmission vs the 6 speed. I had a fried that had 5.9 cummins that had 230
hp with the 6 speed transmission and it got better mileage and had improved
performance. The 454 is probably better in some ways than the 190 cummins in
my opinion (tho it was a pusher and hence quieter). I would prefer the 230 tho
over the 454. The 454 is a good gas motorhome. I think for the dollar and
value it would be great. I agree that the gas mileage difference is not much
different (if any). Again, it comes down to how fast you go. With the 190 you
can not go over about 60-65 and hard to maintain even 55 over modest hills.

Re: [MBZ] Ot motorhomes

2011-06-24 Thread drcscruggs
Well, I think the benefit of the motorhome over the truck camper combo is that
the trip there in the motorhome is better. If one is going to be at one spot
for a longer time then I really believe that a truck trailer is better. But,
if one is going to be some where for only a day or two then a motorhome is
pretty much ready to go in a moments notice. Also the frige is full
(hopefully) and the bed is there for passengers to rest while the on the road.
It beats the heck out of trying to sleep in an auto. To get better mileage
then you almost have to have a smaller diesel motorhome. The 30+ foot jobs by
in large are not going to get over 10mpg. The smaller ones can. You basicly
have a house going down the highway. The bigger the house, the heavier and
hence less mpg.

better off pulling a trailer behind the duramax which would get 15

I asked a neighbor of mine why he was taking his family on vacation using his

xplained that when you get to

I have had several pressure washers. Agree totally an electric is hardly
accecptable. I had a great power washer from wal mart. It was a briggs and
straton engine 2500psi 3gal which never gave me a problem. It got stolen, I
then moved up to a honda 2800psi and 2.5 gallon. I have had several problems
with the honda engine that were never a problem with the Briggs. If I were
doing it again, I would definately consider the Briggs (cheaper, a little
louder, less problematic). I think the brand I had was excel. The honda was
purchased from Home Depot. I do like have an additional hose such that the
washer does not have to be moved as much. I try to run all of the gas out of
the power washer to keep it from clogging up the carb.

2011-06-19 Thread drcscruggs
I have repaired a retainer. BTW, I am a dentist. With that in mind, you would
need dental acrylic. This is the pink stuff that denture gums are made from.
However, I tend to agree with the response of not repairing it yourself as
if it is repaired incorrectly (even just a few tenths of a millimeter) then the
teeth would be moved however much it was off and then the teeth would be
retained in an incorrect position (as a best case scenario). I do not
suggest super glue and certainly not epoxy. I have seen a lot of dental
appliances that have been repaired with super glue. Of course the ones I see
are usually problematic. There might be some out there that are not
problematic. Best advice, truly, get your dentist/orthodontist to repair.

When my lower broke, I had one re-cast and had them fix the old one as a

Re: [MBZ] Ford diesels

2011-04-20 Thread drcscruggs

I have a 2002 ford 7.3 diesel and it has been a great truck and have driven
about (just over 200,000 miles). The body is well put together still does not
rattle, doors open shut etc. It has had a water pump, changed out the tie rod
ends, switch for the mirrors and that is about it with the exception of brakes,
tires, oil changes, and other maintenance items. I bought it new in 2002. It
does get about 16 mpg maybe 20 on highway. I have never gotten 24 miles from
one gallon. However, I don't think I ever drive 55 on the highway for very
long. I have a friend who has a dodge, he has less miles and has had a lot of
problems with not the engine but about everything else. I just drove the over
20 mile truck to Illinois and back to Texas this weekend. Got about
16-17mpg going about 70-75 mph and it ran great and I love the truck. BTW, yes
air works still, and not for sale. conclusion very well made truck, not great
mileage but not bad for a vehicle that weighs about 6500 lbs.

 A '92 will be a non-turbo, right? I have heard the 7.3 turbo is
a pretty good engine. What about the normally aspirated?
 What's to watch out for?

PSD 7.3 was, IIRC, from 1994 1/2 to early 2003. You probably don't want
anything

else.
You don't want 6.9 IDI, 7.3 IDI, or 7.3 turbo IDI unless diesel drops below $2
a

gallon. And you don't want the early 6.0 PSD that replaced the 7.3 PSD, nor do
you want to pay the purchase price for something even newer than that.

A 7.3 PSD with 3.73 gears can get 10-16mpg, depending on what you're towing and
how fast. Trailerless with the cruise set at 55mph, 24mpg. Maybe 18mpg at 75mph
if you're lucky.

Re: [MBZ] Rental car crap - OT

2011-03-22 Thread drcscruggs

I rented a car some time ago from Alamo. I did not have any problem with the
car at all. When I took it back they said there was a small dent in the fender
that we had put there. I actually did not take it back but had my wife do it.
We just told them no we were not going to pay as we did not put any dents in
it. I basically told them that they would have to sue me to get me to pay as I
just did not do it and would not be responsible. Another time I rented from
Hertz, DID put a dent in the car took it back, told them about it. They told
me not to worry about it and never heard about it again.

IMHO, I rent from Hertz, Yet to have another one of those damage claim issues.
May be a dollar or 2 more but worth it.

We rented a car from Alamo in Canada back on Dec. 18. Returned it on Dec.

31, IIRC. 10 days ago (more than 3 months later!) the head office in

Toronto sent us a letter demanding nearly $300 to repair a broken headlight

on the car! In fact, that part WAS busted when we picked it up at the

airport, but the lazy SOB at the counter never bothered to do a once over.

We only noticed it in daylight a couple days into the rental period. When

we returned the car the same thing - no effort to see what shape the car was

in.

After we received the letter, endless arguments led them to offer to split

the difference. I have heard this sort of fraud is going on but didn't

expect it to happen to us. While awaiting their letter, can anyone advise

on a strategy that will make these SOBs quite trying to rip us off?

Re: [MBZ] W114

2010-12-08 Thread DrCScruggs
I have a 114 coupe with only a little rust that I was thinking about
selling. It does not have a title. I got it with idea that I would harvest
some
parts off it and then send back to where I got it (junkyard). I have had
it about 6 months and have not done that. Now it is just taking up space.
The body is really in pretty good shape. I truly believe it could be
fixed and made driveable. I have 600 in it. If some one wants, then let me
know. I think it overall certainly could be a good little car. I put this in
here so if someone had an interest, they could take advantage of it (as
opposed to a scrap yard). Thanks cks

Re: [MBZ] OT question on a Ford diesel

2010-06-06 Thread drcscruggs

I have a 2002 ford diesel with 190k+ miles and it runs great!! I did and if
has not happened yet the water pump will go about 130K. With that in mind you
may wish to make sure that it has not been overheated. I have a crew cab and
2wd (not 4x4). This has truly been one of the very best vehicles I have ever
owned. I got it new in 2002. I got this truck as a good friend of mine had
one that had over 300k miles and he told me that he had had no problems with
his. It will pull a boat, trailer and never know it is there except your
milage will decrease. I get about 16-17 when not towing. I rarely tow though.
Maybe 20 on highway if you do NOT go too fast. Try to stay around 65 or below
and you will get the better mileage. I agree 12 is a little high.

The bar and chain will like it fine; you and SWMBO may not like where it drips

wood, is it gonna smear on somebody's hand, clothing, etc., when feeding a

 Thoughts?

Re: [MBZ] Anyone looking for a C-Class

2010-02-17 Thread drcscruggs

I had a 1994 c280 (daughter's car) was ruined in hurricaine Ike. It did not
have a rust issue but, in all fairness I got it from central Texas (not up
north where they use a lot of salt on the roads). It was a really good car.
The issue with them is the wiring harness. I understand they were made of some
material that was not heat resistant and eventually fails and needs replacing.
Cost is a factor. Has the wiring harness been replaced? value would
increase/decrease depending on the answer.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Military as welfare.

2010-01-11 Thread drcscruggs
I will have to put in my 2 cents though it is not worth much. I get to assist
the local medical with care of the USCG servicemen and women. I can honestly
say that they seem to get some pretty bright recruits. I have yet to think one
of them was retarded. I have seen some who I can say were of average
intelligence and maybe a little lower but, certainly not retarded. My overall
impression of them is that they are pretty clean cut good kids and a cut above
of the general public. I may be wrong but it seems that the other branches of
the services may not get as good recruits as does the USCG (ie army). My
vote-good servicemen and women, not welfare.
No offense to anyone intended.

on this list the american imperialism and war profiteering is what makes me
free. i disagree not only that this could possibly make us free but also
with the notion that this is any longer a particularly free country. as
long as the american people continue to capitulate to tyranny, we will
become less and less free. no number of innocent iraqis tortured or

[MBZ] assist with diagnosis on no start

2009-09-13 Thread drcscruggs
I bought a 82 300sd with the idea of a transplant engine for my G-wagen.  My G
has the 2.8 (110) engine and I wanted to dieselize it.  Am I totally nuts
(changing from 110 in line 6 petro to 617 diesel 5 cylinder)?

Also, would the transmission on the G-wagen fit the 617 diesel?

The car (300sd) is hard to start.  My thought is it is the glow plugs?  The
glow plug light comes on and goes off (like it is supposed to do) but will not
start without just a puff of starter fluid.  After the engine has warmed up it
starts without hesitation.  It seems to run well after starting, tho I don't
think the turbo is kicking in when it is supposed to do so (vacuum issue?).
Anyway, I got this car for the engine (rust bucket) as it seemed to run pretty
well, but is too slooow or non start (without assist).

Can someone give an idea on what I need to do to get it to start like it is
supposed to do? I do not like the idea of starter fluid ignition/starting ( I
know is bad).

Note, it has 130k on speedo (that is nonfunctional).  I believe engine/car  to
have about 200k on it.  Why?  the seats are intact, pedal wear has about that
(200k miles total guess on my part).   That is how I arrived at about 200k.

Long note, sorry for length, my knowledge is limited and hoping for some sage
advice.

Thanks

charles

It's largely about RPMs. If the tach rarely gets over 2000 and you aren't

anything, 20+ is possible. Another data point: 2001 F250 2wd 6sp, 3.73 final

Probably could have been closer to 26mpg if those were freeway miles without
the

occasional stop and go drive through a town. IIRC, it does something like
65-67mph at 2000rpm. MPG at 60-65 is much higher than at 70-75.

I would do a regular drain, filter change, and fill. Don't overlook draining
the torque converter.

I don't trust those flush machines. Why unhook the cooler lines and risk leaks
forming.

Don't overtorque the bolts pan when you put the pan back on, or it will deform

I think most of the electrical harness issues were with the 94 to 96 gas cars.?
This I understand will go bad if it has not already been replaced.? I had a 94

the harness replaced but had the check engine lite on most of the year that I
owned.? It was never a significant problem, but it only had about 120k miles on
it.? I understand that as they get older the isulation on the harness gets more
brittle, shorts more and more and deteriorates after that.? I understand also
that the actuator switch for the accelerator can go bad also.? When I bought
mine, I took it to the local MB dealer and that is how I found out both the
accellerator switch and harness had been replaced on my e320.? my 2 cents, hope
is helpful

I've always loved the cars, and even looked a couple a few months back.
Wheels aren't at big deal as I'm sure there are lots of original ones around
for not a lot of money. I see original rims on Craig's list all the time.
I'm not 100%, but I think the wiring issues were '92-'95, but I'd double
check that. Many say the car struggles with the 6 cylinder, and the 8 gives
a lot more grunt for not a lot of extra fuel. The car is more at home on
the highway, than climbing mountain passes.

Not a cheap car to run when things go wrong, but considering it was probably
one of the best cars made, it was never intended to be run on a budget. If
I could find a really good one, with all papers showing it had been loved
over the years, I'd take it.

[MBZ] transmission flush vs change fluid/filter (Thoughts??)

Does anyone have an opinion on transmission fluid/filter change versus

Re: [MBZ] OT a bit but still diesel related

2009-05-28 Thread drcscruggs

I have a 2002 ford diesel truck with 170K on it and have had NO problems with
pretty much anything. The only thing that has been changed was the water pump @
about 130k.? I understand this is common.? I also changed out the ball joints
per a recommendation by a mechanic, but am not totally convinced that it needed
doing.? Also brakes have been changed.? All of this is considered pretty much
maintenance.? I can hardly say that this has not been anything except an
excellent vehicle.? I have 2 friends that have dodges with cummins and though
the engine reportedly has been excellent, they have both had problems with
other issues on the auto.?

Actually, no - I'm actually not biased towards unions. But a contract is a
contract be it between 2 businesses, 2 individuals or a business and a
union.

And as far as the automotive industry is concerned, the big three bild a
lot of cars that people want to by which is why, including last year, the
big three sold more cars than all of the imports combined.

I just realized that I belong to a group of closed minded snobs who believe
that the American Auto industry should die. These same people have no
interest in alternate opinions and will not take the time to look at the
impact on our economy or the people who work for them and I officially quit.

And, by the way, this group just lost a technical resource - me.

The auto makers were propped up for the benefit of the economy and not
for
the unions. And to set the record straight, they did not give half the
 company to the Union.

The supposed Union ownership is actually not the union but the retirement
plan. The VERBA (Employee Retirement plan) owns part of the company in
 place
of the company making their commitment to the retirement plan whole and
 last
I checked, the plan was only 68% funded. This is very high risk to all
retirees future retirees because if the company fails, it takes a major
portion of the retirement plan with it.

Would you be happy if your Employer explained in a staff meeting that you
would loose about 40% of the funds in your 401K plan if they did not
survive The Union and the Employees are not happy about this but it's
another decision that had to be made, it's not any different than the
 dealership decision.

Also, everyone involved gave up their share to make this work. My Wife is
 a
UAW Union worker, one who in your opinion benefited the most from this.
 Her
 part of the concessions were:

She took a $2.00 / hour pay cut.
She lost her COLA (cost of living) adjustment.
She will get no pay raise over the next 4 years.
We have reduced medical benefits. And as a result, the cost of my
appointments medication just increased by $120 / month.

In addition, she did not receive a pay raise over the last 4 years - this
works out to 8 years with a $2.00 / hour pay cut that translates into a
 much
larger pay cut with inflation! Would you work for someone, anyone,
knowing
that you would not get a pay raise in 8 years? Probably not!

they always use it when amputating toes because of the possibility they'll
hit a nerve that is actually still functioning.) But the knee replacement
will be more intensive. I will have my anestheologist get involved because
of the med pump implanted that feeds Dilaudid to my spine - hopefully all
involved can find a way to do it safely and effectively.?

the edge of death and held there for a length of time. Doesn't need much to
go wrong and have a real problem. So I'm looking forward to getting a new

So, now they are asking for more power to collect medical records to use
 during firearms purchase background checks.

Doesn;t sound like they're being completely honest. I guess that's par for
the course. Now you know why I am so much against additional firearms
restrictions. The govt cannot be trusted. Doesn't matter if they are Dems

One of my software clients is the local Mental Health Center. Some
impressive software is already available for digitizing automating
 medical
records. It's just a matter of time until all medical records are digital

stored in a national database for all physicians to access (with your

Just saw a disturbing TV commercial (History Channel) where dozens of
white robed technicans talk about what they are working on. Seems they
want to create a huge database that puts medical records, insurance
 records, hospit
al records, etc etc where *everything* talks to everything
else! Don't know about you, but this doesn't sound like the greatest
 idea.

Sure, it may make the insurance business more profitible, but at the
expense of patient privacy! We've had a regular diet of reports of
 credit

card information being lost or stolen when hard drives are given away,
lost or stolen. That's *very* bad. But medical records being out there
for all to see is even worse IMHO.

There are a lot of good restaurants in Houston, one of my favorites is
Carraba's.? If you like seafood, consider the drive down to Galveston to go to
Gaido's.? It has been around since about 1900 and I have never been
disappointed.? If you let me know, I will try to join you at one of them.? The
woodlands is about 65 miles from Galveston and 20 from Goode Co BBQ.? There is
a Carraba's (Italian) not too far from the woodlands.? BTW got a 96 e300diesel

Take what you can with a sample size of 1 but we've had a Frigidaire from
Lowes for just over three years now. Only issue has been an occasional
slight dribble from the front door w/really full load, which appears to be
nearly universal for these puppies.
I have a whirlpool duet (rather pricey) but have had 2 years and it is great!
They do a better job on cleaning, supposedly cleans better and is easier on the
materials (does not beat them up as much). I have not had a single repair. My
uncle used to work for montgomery ward and his opinion was that Whirlpool made
the best washers. cks
I got the extended warranty b/c of the history of these being problems in
the past and relatively new tech for the US manufacturers building them.
Washer has paid for itself with reduced hot/warm water consumption, reduced
demand from our well is a bonus. Much easier on clothes but these do retain
some water and you'll likely get mold at some point esp. if the door is kept
shut.

The paint and interiors on mine are good. I'd guess between $3,000 and
$5,000, but might be lower now. Depends on what you'll offer, and what they
will accept.

Check the alignment of the belt tensioner and idler pulley, AC evaporator,
and how it runs/drives in general. Records?

The only ways I can think of to check the evap are to look at the service
records (it's been replaced, or you'll probably have to replace it in the
next
few years), or have an A/C shop stick a freon sniffer in a cold air vent
in the
dash to see if it's already leaking.

If the system is low on freon, just assume it's going to be costly.

Wilton's W124 looked like this a few days after he started on the

I have tow of those cars - LOVE them! Mine have 275,000 and 350,000 miles.
The paint and interiors on mine are good. I'd guess between $3,000 and
$5,000, but might be lower now. Depends on what you'll offer, and what they
will accept.

Check the alignment of the belt tensioner and idler pulley, AC evaporator,
and how it runs/drives in general. Records?

[MBZ] wolf stoves,

2009-03-18 Thread drcscruggs
most commercial stoves are great, but most have pilot lights and also require
one heck of a vent fan to come up to code.? This is doable in my neck of the
woods but costly (and the vent fan on the exterior is unsightly).? However, I
note also that the commercial look alikes are much more expensive than the real
commercial stoves/ranges.? I would look at a restaurant supply and try to get a
new one if that is what you would do.?I must say I considered putting in a
cheap used stove, getting my inspection, and then getting the new commercial
stove and pitching the old cheap stove.? However, I ended up getting a ge
monogram and it has been excellent.? I got mine off ebay and saved?close to
1K?off what several local dealers had to offer.?

Only problem is that commercial stoves are not allowed in residential housing
according to the new building codes that are in effect in most of the US. You
can however buy one of those super expensive look-a-likes that are made just
for residential use. Look up wolf stoves.?

you should keep an eye out for local auctions. There are going to be?
a whole passel of them coming along if local conditions are any?
indication.?
?
Restaurants and stores are going belly up in record numbers. Their?
equipment hits the auction floors and goes for incredible prices. The?
nice large commercial stoves can be had for under $1k in good?
condition. Lots of other nice stainless goodies to be had as well.?
Need a walk in cooler? Sinks, prep tables, pots and pans? Goes for?
pennies on the dollar.?
?
AS for powering the stove, just ask around for how to change it up so?
that you can hook up LP. Going to take a very large Texas size?
propane tank, a few less BTU, but all is good. Your new pickem up?
should be able to haul it all home.?

Re: [MBZ] OT - Stupid

2009-03-15 Thread drcscruggs
if you are breathing then you are exhaling CO2, then it would not build up in
your body.  The burning you feel when you don't take a breath is the CO2
building up.  The lack of oxygen is what gets you.  If you are in a helium
atmosphere then you would obviously loose the CO2 and not get the oxygen.
Hence you are a goner and not even feel the burning of your lungs.  You would
most likely get a first a little disoriented, which would increase until loss
of consciousness.  Continued oxygen deprivation would lead to the inevitable
conclusion.

The reason one does not die in a closed up house or car is that there is some
exchange of air even in the most well sealed house or auto.  I know a little
more about people than houses or cars tho.  cks

Im just about sick of this 190D, I have just about reached the point of
dumping it. I know its not the cars fault but still. And this car has
new shocks front and rear, suspension completely rebuilt, NEW bumpers,
interior very nice, cold AC etc. Tranny shifts great, when it shifts.
Im sure its just something simple with it, still need to order me a
guage to see if I can figure out what is going on with it.

 Dunno, probably about the same.

The VW has better parts availablity and I'd take on a headgasket long before
I touched a tranny, we all know the luck Kaleb has been having with
 transmissions in his 190Ds.

This is a link to an article in a real estate blog I follow in the Reno/Lake
Tahoe area for reasons I won't go into
here.

Anyway, one of the authors digs up stuff on NODs and foreclosures and posts it
for everyone to see. This one is
especially interesting to me because of it's location. Read this and get
pissed:

Does anyone have information on adding AC to a 280G that never had it?? I have
seen aftermarket ac with a box below the dash and that seems to be the only
option I have run into so far.? Also would a c280 provide mounts for the
compressor?? I realize the engine is different and probably would not but
wanted to ask if someone else had knowledge that I lacked.? Thanks! (newbie

Re: [MBZ] 280 g with no AC. Want it tho!

2009-02-01 Thread drcscruggs

I got it from England.? It is a 280G with the 6 cylinder engine that is (I
think) the same as the 280CE coupe.? It never had AC.? I live in Texas and
would rather have AC (than not).? I realize that it may be a chore.? I think
either an older 280e coupe or sedan would have parts that may just bolt on the
engine.? The only details then seem to be the switches and ducting.? You are
correct in that they did not bring these into the US until 2002.? However they
were made in small numbers for the European market.? Thanks to all.

It would be helpful if you told us what year and preferably what
engine type. There is a fair probability the compressor, mounting
and hoses, etc from a sedan with the same engine type would fit. Not
many Gwagons in the US, where most of us are. you might find a
scrapper in europe, that has what you need.?
