Well the diff is out of the car. I want to remove the cover to see the damage 
but I guess I don't have a set of triple square sockets or whatever they call 
it. I need to go ahead and order a new flex disk so hope to finish it next 
week.

Real Vice grips, the old ones, as an assist.   Or after you strip them, 
vice grips and a hammer.


Or you can remove the cover, pull the clips and let the stub hang with 
the axle, same as the one piece.  Easier

The socket is e12. It was a whore of a job getting them off. These 
things have to be on just right or you will strip it or it flys off 
the bolt head. I have several scraped knuckles after this job. They 
have lock tight applied to the bolts, so you have to use a long 
breaker bar to break them loose and continue loosening them. The axle 
boots are in the way of the ratchet causing it to want to slip off the 
bolt. You can't use an extension to clear the boots because when you 
try to apply all that pressure it wants to come off the bolt. Just now 
removed the last of the 12 bolts. 3 more hex bolts and it's out

They are not torx.  They are 3 square z_ _   Probably have to find 
snappy or Mac to find the tool.

I sure wish I had my lift up and going, would make this a lot easier. 
Right now I am trying to determine if I have the proper torx socket to 
take off the axle to dif bolts without stripping them. I hate 
torx/star bolts. Why in the world did they start using them

I sure wish I had my lift up and going, would make this a lot easier. Right now 
I am trying to determine if I have the proper torx socket to take off the axle 
to dif bolts without stripping them. I hate torx/star bolts. Why in the world 
did they start using them

in on that job. Been lazy today so far even thought it's a beautiful 
day out but I am getting ready to head out to the shop to yank the old 
diff out of the car. Been dreading this job not so much the removing 
it but the fact that I got to swap the flange from the old one to the 
new one, which can be a swine of a job to get the nut loose I have heard.

that job. Been lazy today so far even thought it's a beautiful day out but I am 
getting ready to head out to the shop to yank the old diff out of the car. Been
