Re: [MBZ] OT - Sealing Concrete
I would guess that your floor has a smooth finish on it though where a driveway will be a rougher finish. When I worked at the airport during college, one of the newer hangars had a very smooth floor that had (probably) an epoxy finish on it too. We had to mop and buff that thing once a week (my boss believed in a VERY clean hangar) and when it was wet like that it was extremely slippery too. Even if we brought in wet airplanes, or washed one in the hangar, we had to get out the sqeegees and mops and dry everywhere. I remember slipping and sliding on wet patches in there if it had not be dried off. Was somewhat problematic moving wet airplanes with the tug too as it would sometimes spin tires on the wet and that made for some tricky maneuvering. Easy to clean oil drips though, they just wiped right up. I worked in another old hangar that had probably been built in the 30s, that thing had a very rough concrete floor, actually made it much harder to move planes around though one's shoes and the tugs got some good traction. It had a considerable patina, I'm sure from generations of big radials dripping oil all over. --R On 9/15/15 12:38 PM, OK Don via Mercedes wrote: The concrete floor of my hangar is painted with something (I don't know what, but B-12 Chemtool dissolves it), but it is SLIPPERY when WET ! I put down Bona wood finish on my floors, It's a catalyzed water-based finish. I wonder if that might work outside to seal up concrete? Dan, I'm involved right now with painting the outside of my concrete dome. Richards paints has a concrete sealer that they recommend to be used before painting concrete. It is number 1791C, C for clear. I have no idea if it is slippery in the rain as I haven't walked on the dome in the rain and don't intend to. I don't even know if it seals against oil. The guy I talked to said it is supposed to be an acrylic paint that is supposed to sink into the concrete and seal out air so that the final elastomeric paint will do it's job better. We'll see. Anyway you might give them a call and ask about it. I was thinking about sealing it with something, basically to keep nasty stuff out like grease and oil. No risk of freezing down here, so that?s not an issue. Research I have done indicates that Thompson?s has changed the composition of their ?water seal? product, rendering it less than useful based on complaints I?m seeing on the Web.
