He likes to attack military funerals, because the military isn't doing
enough to keep homosexuals out of the military. When those bozos showed
up in Michigan a couple of years ago, they didn't have those fancy signs
pictured here: http://www.baptistwatch.org/fredphelps.html

Instead, they had 'magic marker on cardboard' type signs, at least one
of which was a cartoon of a soldier humping a soldier. If you carry
THAT to my nephew's funeral, you better hope that you're still breathing
when enough of your supporters get their hands on me to pull me off you,
becuase I will grab you by the neck and smack your head on the concrete
repeatedly.
The 2nd time he tried it here, a couple hundred large tattoo'd men on
Harleys showed up to create a (somewhat menacing) human fence between
the so-called Baptists and the funeral.

were formed. To shield the families of fallen heroes from f'n idiots like
this. No matter what side of the war issue one stands on, I firmly believe

Well said Tom,
I don't remember it all - I believe I was in the car when I heard it - but
perhaps someone knows more than I -

A news-reporter didn't give us freedom of press - a Soldier did.
a student protester didn't give us freedom of speech - a soldier did.

sorry - those are the only 2 I can remeber at the moment - but ya'll get the
point.

I'll browse the internet and perhaps find more of it -

Found it -

remember this -
...It's the soldier, not the preacher, who gives us freedom of religion.
It's the soldier, not the reporter, who gives us freedom of the press.
It's the soldier, not the campus organizer who gives us freedom to assemble.
It's the soldier, not the lawyer, who gives us the right to a fair trial.
It's the soldier, not the politician, who gives us the right to vote.
It's the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, who makes
all of this possible, day after day after day!

I also want to apologize to all veterans on behalf of the State of
Kansas for the actions of Reverend Fred Phelps. He is the jacka**
from Westboro Baptist Church who organizes pickets at the funerals of
the soldiers who died in Iraq. (He also protested at the funerals of
those killed at Virginia Tech) Thank God, many states are now
establishing funeral protection zones to prevent people like him from
picketing at funerals. As far as I am concerned, there is a special
place in hell for him. I hope he is wearing gasoline panties while he
is there. If you have never heard of him, just google Fred Phelps and
funeral protests.

I always regretted not entering the military, my family has such a long
history of service. My Grandfather served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
My Father served in Vietnam, Desert Storm and volunteered to be called
up for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He recently retired after serving for
over 35 years. My Uncle earned the Silver Star (and several other
medals) in Vietnam. Most of his medals were awarded posthumously
because he was killed by a sniper the day after saving his entire
platoon. His documented heroics were part of the decision to award him
the Silver Star. His name was Donald Pumphrey - I am named after him.

You theory was tested a few years in Topeka (where Fred Phelps lives and
practices his evil). An older woman drove on a sidewalk for almost 100
yards crashing through his protest trying to run him over. I think he
was barely clipped. During her trial, the judge concluded that it was a
mechanical failure of the accelerator and dismissed all charges. The
judge made this determination without anyone even offering this sort of
evidence. I am sure it would have been different if anyone had been
really hurt. But, I don't think Phelps would ever find a jury of peers
in Topeka.

To complicate matters, Mr. Phelps is an attorney (he was disbarred quite
a while ago. Every law student in Kansas studies the decisions of the
Kansas Supreme Court disbarring him during the required ethics and
professional responsibility course).

He graduated from Washburn Law School (the same law school I graduated
from). He has 13 children. 11 of them are attorneys and 10 of them
graduated from Washburn. 1 was not admitted, so he protests the law
school also. He protested at my graduation (he goes to all the law
school graduations). His granddaughter worked in the law library while
I was there. She didn't seem evil. But, I saw her protesting at all of
his places in Topeka, so I am sure being around him and all of his
hate-mongering has warped her.

I suspect most all of this list would agree with you on this one. Though I
had a deferment I was scheduled to go into the USAF following graduation
from college when a drunk driver put an end to those plans. My son and
son-in-law are currently active duty, and my son's wife was. There are Rear
Admirals and assorted other military folks in the family history. They are
the ones who let us be what we are today. Bless 'em all. Wish I could have
been one of them.
