7k is ok for a nice car in good shape with no major maintenance on the
horizon.

My dad hopped into the e420 at the airport the other day and said "how much
did you pay for this car again?" I said 7k. He said "this is a lot of car
for 7k".

Feels like a steal compared to alternatives. It basically looks new from 10
feet. Low taxes, cheap to register etc.

It's almost comical to feel like I have to justify the price, given what
people drop on new cars these days.

[MBZ] Value of nice W111 bumper set: Jaime?

I'm wondering if anyone can help me figure out a fair value for a nice 
complete front and rear bumper set with uppers from a Nevada desert 111.


I'm not sure if anyone can help much unless Jaime knows or someone can 
find the price for new halves from EPC.


The last time I checked, maybe 12-15 years ago one half of one bumper, 
without the uppers or bumper guard was over $1000.  If new parts are 
available, the parts would probably be $6000 to  $10,000 I'd guess.


These are nice, good chrome, complete paint inside, but they have some 
small dents as typical for a car that was driven.  They are not perfect 
for a show car, but are very nice for a driver, or need little work to 
be restored/rechromed.


Complete Front Bumper, with uppers and bumper guards and mounts.

Complete Rear Bumper, with uppers and bumper guards, license lights, and 
mounts.

I think they took the usual "TD" to mean turbo diesel instead of that it's 
a station wagon. It sounds like a dealer who never looked under the hood 
(no engine pics) and wrote a description. It is a nice condition vehicle 
though from what the pics show.

It's little hard to be sure from the photos, but it looks like a 6.9 based on 
the bumper and burlwood. Also the rear end is too high, so that could also 
suggest a 6.9 with something amiss in the height controllers. If it is a 6.9 
that's not a bad price I guess...

I think using a harsh negative to describe the bumpers on this car is not very 
nice. I have an 80 300SD that I've owned for about 17 years. It has these 
bumpers and I like them a lot better than the plastic on the 126 models. I do 
agree that the ACC is a bit of a challenge though.

Brings back fond memories of my '78 300D. 435 pictures, perhaps a bit much 
and I don't like the Euro bumpers. The Turbodiesel emblem is a bit lopsided 
so there has been some repair at least on that corner.

50k miles on it - it looked new cosmetically - asking $9900 or so.

They are out there. One of my 210.025's is leather with normal seats,  
H7 low beams and normal ASR; the other is Tex heated multicontour  
seats, factory hid lowbeams, and full ESP.


The leather seats don't wear as well; the surface at the beltline  
needs to be rested/repainted.

A girl I had an unrequited thing for in college had one of those.  Almost
exactly like the one in the pictures, including the very '60s Automatic
script on the decklid, except it was a darker green (more like BRG) with a
black interior.  You wouldn't expect it of an old German automatic tranny
coupled to that engine, but it seemed to shift very smoothly and have plenty
of pickup, at least at urban speeds.

They will really go. I was coming back to Winnipeg from the lake a number of 
years ago and some fool driving one of
those was passing everything. We were on the 2 lane stretch between Kenora and 
Falcon Lake and it is all hills and
curves. On busy weekends this is often a freight train of cars as far at the 
eye can see ahead and behind at any
straight stretch.  Usually going east on Friday and the same folks going west 
on Sunday.He was passing multiple
vehicles at a time and forcing his way back in at the last moment. I honestly 
expected him to be in the ditch or
plastered on the front of some other poor soul coming our way. He would pull 
out in a puff of blue smoke and go as
far as he dared and duck back in and then pull out again as soon as possible 
and do it all over again. He appeared
to have some skill but he should have been stopped and shot on the spot for the 
reckless manner in which he treated
the other folks on the road. If that poor car had failed at any point along the 
way, he might not have had the time
to get out of the way.

I would guess the one he was driving was not an automatic.

1982 Mercedes-Benz, 300D, fuel injected, turbocharged diesel, 4-door, 
5-passenger sedan. My deceased grandfather ordered it from the factory 
in 1982. This car only has 148,327 original miles (@ 25,000 miles driven 
by me over the last two years) as my grandmother only drove to and from 
the grocery store on a weekly basis over the last 12 years. The original 
Palamino MB Tex upholstery (I'm assuming that's what its called) and the 
wood grain interior are in very good condition. The exterior paint has 
faded in places as my grandmother kept it parked in a semi-open car port 
in Myrtle Beach. $500 at Maaco would make the car look brand new. The 
original turbo engine is in very good shape as it has had regular oil 
changes. My intentions were to keep it and use it as my primary vehicle 
but I am now doing a lot of interstate traveling and a classic car like 
this is really best for daily around town use.


Features of this car include: 4-speed automatic transmission, power 
steering, climate control, power assisted four wheel disc brakes, cruise 
control (works sporadically), central locking system, fully independent 
suspension, electric windows, electronically heated rear window, 
automatic antenna with selective height adjustment, two speed windshield 
wipers with 5-second interval mist control, tachometer (works 
sporadically), front and rear center folding arm rests, parcel nets, 
fully adjustable front bucket seats, halogen fog lamps, halogen head
