Re: [MBZ] Mower head gasket update

2015-08-15 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
We've also got a quarter acre. I cut it with a 1965 Snapper 308X rear engine
rider that my great uncle Paris bought in 1967. It'd been owned by a golf
course before that, they traded it in, the equipment shop re-powered it and he
used it until he died in 1989. After his death it got pushed under a spruce
tree on the farm until I retrieved it in 2008. I re-powered it with an engine
from an '88 Snapper rear engine rider in 2009 and have cut the grass with it
ever since. Its even still got one original 1965 tire on it.
Probably needs a new blade and rubber drive whatsis but otherwise its great.

Nice!  Let us know how it cuts.

My lot is only about a quarter acre, I've got a push mower that lasted fifteen
years now.  Finally put on a new blade this summer, and I think it may finally
be time to overhaul the carburetor, but this thing just keeps going.  Yard
Machine with a Briggs & Stratton motor.

Well I did cut with it once before I tore it down. It cut way better with dull
blades than my other MTD made 46" mower cuts with brand new high dollar fancy
blades on it.

I've got one of those. MTD with 15hp single cylinder Briggs.
He said he had to take a bath after mowing because of the oil cloud condensing
on him.
Then when the starter died, he bought a new Husqvarna by AYP.
I was going to replace the starter and sell it until he told me how badly it
smoked.
It's about the same vintage (22 years old) as my MTD that's identical except
mine has a wider
deck and a twin cylinder engine. So the 15hp is just a parts machine, but it was
free.
My only complaint is I bought a $50 battery a month before he gave me the spare
tractor.

Mitch.

Congrats on the repair. If the grass is growing there like it is here,
