2020-05-13 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I loved it there, was really disappointed when it got renovated and the
new part added on.  It was somehow fitting it was a sh*tty old airport,
but it was really convenient, parking and whatnot, rental cars were
right across from the door.  I would see all kinds of famous people
there.  One afternoon in the NWA club there was a guy in front of me and
the girl at the counter (whom I knew well as I would see her a coupla
times a week, I brought her gifts for Christmas and her birthday so I
got treated REALLY well) was trying to get him to understand he needed
his card or something to get in, he was arguing with her, nicely but
firmly since he didn't have it.  She says, "Mr. Shepard I believe you
but I need to see your card" and he is like well everyone knows who I
am. She says (in that way they can say) "well, that's fine, but *I*
don't know who you are."  So I say to her, "It's OK, Mr. Shepard is with
me" and she says "well OK you can go in with him then" and smiles at
me.  So Alan Shepard "buys" me a beer when we get in, it was pretty
funny, getting one of my heroes to "buy" me a beer...  He thought it was
pretty funny even though he was half-pissed about it all.

Assh*t and crew stood down and we kept our seats.

National was an ugly place. Almost as ugly as Kennedy (airport).

Re: [MBZ] ***SPAM*** RE: Speaking of flying...

2020-05-13 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I flew EAL a LOT from BOS-DCA-BOS.  One particularly memorable flight
featured Teddy Kennedy (D-UI) riding in first class just a row ahead of
me.  I watched him pounding scotch whiskies starting when he stumbled on
and the FA had 3 little bottles in her hand waiting for him.  He pounded
those before we started taxiing out from the terminal at DCA.  He got
totally sh*tfaced in the next 40min or so, had no briefcase or any
papers or work or anything, just sat there pounding scotches.

Sitting behind me were these 2 women who were working on the Dukakis
campaign at the time, one say 60ish the other young in her late 20s.  We
land, everyone gets up, I am standing right behind The Swimmer waiting
for the door to open.  He turns around and sees this older woman
standing behind me, starts yelling at her, "Jesus Mary howyadoin?  Awww
Jesus I haven't seen you fahevvah! Howyadoin???" then pushes past me and
grabs hold of her for a hug and a grope.  She kinda reels back as she
has to prop him up (he was stumbling...) and he grabs her ass, tries to
kiss her.  The young woman is appalled at this behavior and sorta steps
back away from the spectacle.  The door opens, he pushes past me again
with the woman who he is leaning on up the jetway, the young woman is
about to pass out from observing the behavior of her god, I am just
laughing at this disgusting drunk behavior, others were too. He
continues his loud "conversation" with her as she props him up the jetway.

I grabbed a bag off the belt and as I was walking out he is stumbling to
a limo parked right in front of the Terminal A door.

I had some other close encounters with Teddy and his idiot nephew on
other flights, they were disgusting.

Speaking of the Duke, on one flight one morning my boss and I were on
the flight to DCA, Dukakis was sitting across the aisle from my boss who
was in the row in front of me.  The FA had put their suit jackets up in
the bin, after we landed she comes and gets the jackets and hands them
to the guys who put them on.  Both wearing black suits.  They are both
kinda fiddling with their jackets to get them on and after a minute
standing there one says to the other, "I think we have swapped
jackets!"  Sure enough, the two of them had on the exact same suits,
about the same sizes, and got their jackets mixed up.  It was pretty
funny.  I kinda liked Dukakis even though he was an awful gubnah and
would have been a worse president.

We ended up hiring the woman who ran the EAL club at BOS when EAL went
belly up, she became a good friend.  She never got over the airline
being driven into the ground, she loved working for them.

Youngest son was able to visit the crash site of both aircraft in the Grand
Canyon crash when he was working out there for the NPS. In a very, very remote
part of the park that requires some serious multiple day backcountry hiking to
get to. Even though there was an effort to clean up both sites there’s still a
